Thank you. I watched this whole video and it was just what I needed to know. I am trying to decide between the shinobi and the new action 5 by small hd. This video is from 2019. Can you tell me what you think?. I am new to buying and using an on camera monitor. I use GH6 mainly. Can you share a little info. Can you recommend something here in 2022. ? A lot of people are dissing on the Action 5. I am a pro in many ways but not when it comes to this. I think but I am not sure that I can use all my gh6 tools on the Small HD via passing them through and onto the small HD screen.
My SmallHD screen also cracked like yours. I took it out my bag one day and it was cracked. I had the screen protector on and the screen was cracked but not the screen protector which is strange. I had to send it back for a new screen as it affected my touch display. Might be a design fault possibly.
The comparison you make near the end is rather foolish in my opinion. I use the Atomos Shinobi with all my Sony cameras. Before i got the monitor i used the app like you mentioned and it was horrific - on iPhone X. Latency was terrible, resolution was terrible, colors were not accurate AT ALL. So no - it is NOT even remotely comparable to using the app NOR just the screen of a modern smartphone. Also - 1000nits...what smartphone can do that? Otherwise, nice review. Build quality sucks on SMALLHD, returned mine because of it
Look at both the screens side by side and you will see the quality difference, Im not sure what the numbers do exactly. Functionality like auto screen orientation does make it better. So no, not "every way" is the Shinobi better.
Tech-Analogy well most ways for professional use. I mean auto rotate is not exactly a amazing feature. For pros I definitely think shinobi is a way better monitor. Only pro to getting a SmallHD is it comes with a teradek Built in, which is a amazing feature. Just curious What sort of use you planning to use the monitor for?
Tech-Analogy ah okay so it’s more videography for you and no actually ninja v is still not professional as it doesn’t have SDI inputs. Proffesional use is on film sets most cameras at that level have pro res and raw internal recording, just to give you a idea. The ones I’ve seen on set are the shogun inferno and tv logic mainly. Hope that makes it clear.

I think I saw some reviews saying the shinobi runs hotter for some reason and sometimes can affect functionality. Just curious if u noticed. And do both touch screen perform the same or does one seem to lag more using the touch screen. Really hoping they both respond well so I don’t get annoyed with the touch menus of screen while on gimbal
I'd say for videography it's a tough call, but if one's into cinematography then Shinobi would smoke it out. The color accuracy of the Shinobi is far superior.
I choose the Shinobi! 1080 vs 720 ( which idk why they call it "full hd" when its only 720LOL ) is a no brainer. The Shinobi at 1000 nit isw just gorgeous! another thing I didn't like about the "full hd one" is the headphones jack on the bottom, I like the arm thing thoi but having the headphone jack on the bottom lilled it for me. smallrig sell one for the Shinobi which you can rotate it sideways...and I like it. You had a hazle finfing a full hd to mini hd wire?... try finding the micro hd the focus use to fit in that little space lol

If I had an EVA 1 or FS7 I would most likely go with the Ninja V + SDI expansion for ProRes RAW recording. The SmallHD Focus micro HDMI input seems very reliable, but I also tend to misplace cables... Does the Atomos Shinobi work well with the SmallHD Tilt Arm?

I would buy shenobi immediately if it was 7in!

Prefer shinobi beats the SmallHD in every way better screen and full hdmi I’m looking to buy the shinobi for the Blackmagic pocket 4k

Shinobi is brighter and better built...
Those are written numbers that I personally dont find much difference in. Hardware, yes it is much better built.
