Great video, Gary. Quite a departure from the usual. Perhaps more like this in the future; your experiences and comentary about the locales and excursions.
Glad you enjoyed it. The vlog style videos do not do well for me and much fewer people watch them versus my usual videos, but those that do, like you, seem to enjoy this approach and so I will likely do more of these. I think they work best in more unusual places and itineraries like this (and one I did for Greenland and Canadian Arctic). Though they get about a third of views at most than there. But that could also be as not what most people want or expect from me. But maybe if I do more of them they may build more of a following for these too.
I love those types of trips that get one close to nature and I am a bit of a geology and history buff so it looks to be right up my alley. Thank you for taking us on this adventure and for adding another trip to my bucket list!

Love that you came to visit Oz, never thought I’d see a video of you down here, we don’t have many cruising options and most are small vessels like this one which do some amazing stuff in the top end
I really loved this travel vlog: more about the areas you visited than onboard ammenities. My husband and I are coming up to a 25th Anniversary next year, and Australia/new Zealand/South Pacific is solidly on our bucket list. This gives us something to add to the itinerary.
Thank you Gary for a wonderful vicarious adventure! I appreciate the effort you go to to share it with us, I hope to experience it for myself one day, if possible ❤
We've toured the Kimberly on a cruise. There are 3star plus up to 5 star cruises with comforts and prices to match. Our cruise was a very small one with SUPERB guides and itinerary. We've also heard a 5 star passenger saying the best thing of their cruise was the food! You go for the adventure. (We've also driven through the Kimberley, around it and flown over it. We are not Aussies.)
I'm a 60 year old Australian, and only visited Western Australia for the first time last year. I took a Princess cruise from Perth the Kimberly's and back. It's a stunning area of the world, but very remote.
Gary! I love this! You are so close to dropping the past-tense review video for the present-tense vlog, like Trek Trendy, Kara and Nate, Paul Lucas, etc. As a fan of those channels, I'm thrilled!

There are quite a few companies operating Kimberley cruises now. Some are Australian and some are foreign owned. For legal reasons the foreign ones have to go outside of Australian territorial waters and then back in whereas Australian ones can hug the coast. That's why some go out to Ashmore reef while others don't.
Wonderful! When it is dryer and water levels lower you see more that is revealed that you don't see when the water is up, and in that kind of location that is a bonus.
That's my type of cruise and I'm adding it to my "bucket list". I just have to win the lottery now!! The horizontal falls were beautiful. It's too bad several of the passengers didn't appreciate them. Thank you for sharing, Gary!
I'm Australian and have only met a handfull of people that have been to that region, it's very remote. Closest most Aussies have come is flying over it on the way to Bali...lol. Would be nice to see more of the ship, it looks impressive.
I really enjoyed the destination guide. Always appreciate cruise stops which aren’t the Caribbean or big city Mediterranean. Love to see more like this. 👍🏽
Agree, this looks like an area really under the radar. Of course, for those of us in the western hemisphere, it's much more difficult (expensive) to get there, which is probably why I'd never heard of it until recently.
This was fascinating - it's an adventure few of us have the opportunity to go on - and fewer still will in 2026. The rock formations are so strange. Thanks so much for all your videos, which are always enjoyable!
This trip looks amazing. You are blessed. I will have to live vicariously through you. I would never be able to afford such a trip. Thank you for sharing.
We were fortunate to do a 12 day Kimberley cruise two years ago. Our cruise boat was very small- only 22 of us and 6 crew. Being such a small boat we were able to go up many of the rivers. For us the Horizontal Falls was one of the highlights of the cruise.
What a fascinating and. unusual cruise. I think my favorite falls were at Montgomery Reef. Probably the other would have been more impressive during rainy season, but those lovely dancing sprite s at Montgomery reef stole my heart.
Seems like a fantastic trip Gary. Good to see you in Australia. The Kimberly region and a lot of Western Australia is among the oldest land mass in the world. Australia is the oldest continent.
What a great trip! That was one of your best videos, and I hope you got the trip for free because they couldn’t ask for better advertising than your video. Seriously, you have raised the bar to a new standard. All cruise and travel companies should hire you to do their advertising. Makes me want to take this trip! 👍
Thanks. These vlog-style videos do not get anything near the views of my tips and review videos but those who enjoy them seem to like these a lot, so will keep doing them when makes sense for the trip as also fun to make as something different for me too
Gary, great job as always. A warning for those who do a Kimberley cruise on Silversea, that line doesn't always let you snorkel at Ashmore Reef, without giving a particular reason--a major disappointment for us on an otherwise very enjoyable trip.
That looks like an amazing cruise, with amazing excursions and sights. I can only imagine that the cost in the end will be equally amazing. I went for 10 days to the Galapagos and while expensive, it was worth every penny. The animals and sights that are unique to the location are worth it. Sadly, its popularity could be its undoing. So the only want to keep down the number of visitors is to increase the price and price out the would be visitors. We went 15 years ago and it was still reasonable. It’s now a lot, lot more. But if you have the available cash, well worth it. Sadly, Ecuador itself isn’t really safe at the moment, but I’m sure the islands are OK. This trip looks equally interesting. Just need a zodiac full of cash to pay for it.
Interesting and helpful video Gary. I find this type of content and your other on ship reviews to be more interesting / useful than your various tips or dos and don'ts ones. We watch them all but definitely prefer the more specific, on the ground (ship) material which helps us identify future trips. Happy travels...
Really enjoyed this tour of an area of the world I'm unlikely to ever see (though for market research folks, I have sailed on Seabourn's expedition ships and I have been to Darwin). Thanks to Gary for these occasional diversions from his usual cruise line-focused video's.
Thank you Gary for an excellent video. You convinced me that a cruise like this is the last thing that I want to do! I would find it totally boring. I prefer streets, castles, art galleries, cafes and bars! A lot of people will have my guts for garters for saying this. Wishing you all the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Yes, it’s a special trip, but not for everyone. However, I very much appreciated and enjoyed your video…as usual. I am looking forward to your next one.
We're thinking of going to Australia for the 2028 eclipse. In my research, it looked like the Kimberley area (specifically, Doon Doon Station) would be the ideal site. I've heard that there are cruises in the area that we could do in conjunction with that, so I was very keen on watching your report. Thanks!
The Horizontal Falls are very similar to the Reversing Falls in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. The gap is bigger in SJ, the push/pull is between the 30 foot tide range and the Saint John River. Saint John is a cruise port destination for East Coast Fall Colour Cruises. New England to Quebec City or Montreal usually.
This AMAZING! Thank you for sharing your incredible adventure! Have you ever ridden the tides in the Bay of Fundy in Canada? One of the most exciting experiences of my (younger😅) life!

Probably "Reversing Falls" in Saint John, New Brunswick. I can't remember if it works the same way but it has rapids that change directions with the tides
Oh Gary - you should have gone on a boat called the True North - then you would have had truly the best experience of your life. Once you travel on True North there is no going back to anything else!
That would have bankrupted me :-) I saw them when we were at Montgomery Reef. They look amazing but cost so much more than even this one. But was very intrigued by them
The zodiacs wouldn’t be powerful enough for horizontal falls at the peak of the tidal flow. I’ve done the tour with the main company there and different water height between either side of the gap was very evident and quite thrilling as was swimming with nurse sharks at the main base pontoon boat
Thank you. That's not a trip I will ever be able to afford, based on flight costs alone. Sigh. Also, I see you did not have the chance to document any drop bears, which I would have loved. (Few trees on your itinerary.)
