devastating. stories that are happening every single day, and the way they affected kendrick. The guy that was trapped in the gang life and didn't ever believe he could become anything or fix his life up, he got shot before he could even finish his verse (and right when he was finally starting to hope for something). the girl that was in a life of prostitution and got so resigned that she rejected any kind of sympathy and swore she'd never fade off but in the end, her voice faded out like that of so many victims who's suffering gets lost in the madness (I think she "faded"/aka slowly died of disease). dying of thirst... not just dying from lack of the holy spirit as expressed by kendrick, but also thirst for revenge and thirst for hope. these people are dying of thirst. the futility of gang life, the way suffering begets suffering, the way lives end before they can begin, and the survivors guilt that haunts people like kendrick who are trying to tell these stories to not only keep his own story from disappearing, but the stories of these people he knows and lost. the fear of being forgotten after having lived too much life. I like to think the "Promise that you will sing about me" lines sound so unnatural/robotic compared to the other voices because they're like repeated things he hears in his head all the time over and over, it's ingrained in him, like a record. the song hurts so damn bad, but telling and healing the story is part of the healing.
He's telling the stories of two people connected to people connected to his songs in the first 2 verses of "Sing about me". That's the best I can describe it off the top of my head. His last verse of "Sing about me" is from his own perspective.
The first verse is about one of his friends (brother of his other friend that died) perspective after his brother is killed and the second verse relates to the sister of the main character on Kendrick’s section 80 mixtape song Keisha Song about a prostitute and both verses are directed at him and he responds to both of them on the third verse then dying for thirst starts
He doesn’t want to die like his friend did, he’s just trying to spread the message of the bad things that go on in the hood, after much hurt, none of the people in the story want to suffer anymore, so they have to find god
😢 sad song. But lots of reality

The meaning behind it combined with the somber tone makes the song just… sound eerie.
Man this song was so strong. If listen to this without feeling something, you're weird.

Funny how most people are just getting to know about this masterpiece of a song.
Is Kendrick trying to predict his death?
No it’s a story of his best friend death I think

Underrated, both song and the album
not really in both song or album but that doesn’t mean they are bad, they are absolutely amazing and deserve all the praise, just not underrated
Y’all toss around the word underrated too much. This is one of the most popular songs on the album
@@garfieldfan925 thank you 🙏
Im pretty sure the guy who made this comment meant in streams not in critical Acclaim
@@kingribbitthefrog it’s still one of the most popular albums
