In this video we will see why worms are so beneficial to aquaponics and how you can get some in your own aquaponics system. You can either incorporate the worms in your aquaponics setup or they can appear naturally. Those little night crawlers of different species (red wigglers and others) can breed in your growbed and lay eggs among the media. They will feel well in a well aerated growbed (thanks to the bell siphon). A common mistake would be to keep them in a constant level growbed. An excellent option is to farm them in your aquaponics growbed in the aim to feed your fish. This is a kind of aquaponics vermicompost that is also called vermiponics.

I think i did fund the name of this white worms spicies they are called "white worms" or "enchyytraeus albidus" it say they dont live in water but they are sell in water bag and for now they are alive in my aquaponis setup. They need low température like trout 20°C max.

do u have scientific data that worms only eat the dead roots ?
I want to put it in my grow bed but still doing some research of this

Jonathan, I really enjoy your videos and I have purchased some of your products that are working well at home. A question I have is can your vegetables get overerwatered with in an aquaponics set up? I have a set up that has two grow beds, 250ltr fish tank and a flood and drain system that operates 15mins on 45mins off per hour - but there hasn't been a huge amount of growth. I know that overwatering plants in other forms of gardening can stunt plant growth, just wondering if it's also possible in aquaponics. Thanks

Hi Funstuff! Excellent question. Some plants don't like to be in a constantly moist environment (for example we wouldn't grow Cactus in Aquaponics). But the plants we grow in aquaponics are ok with it as long as we respect few things (as developed in our Aquaponics manual "THE ART OF AQUAPONICS"):
The growbed must be aerobic (if you have a well working bell siphon it's all good)
The first top centimeters of the media are dry (some plants can't handle moisture around the collar) .
      Cheers
      Jonathan

    Can I use tubifex worms?

    • @AquaponicsRevolution
      @AquaponicsRevolution  6 років тому +1

Hi Don, to be very honest I haven’t tried tubifex worms in aquaponics. They generally like “moving” in the water so I am not really sure if the growbed is the best place for them, they may grow well in your filtration but I can’t see any reason for not trying. It would be a fantastic source of food for the fish.
Please let me know how you go.
      I hope the above helps.😉
      Thanks

Hi Jonathan! I appreciate your reply. The system that I am thinking is like this, when the water pumps upward it will go first to the container that has tubifex worms then afterwards the water will be drained to the plantbox (growbed?) then it will now go to the fish, then the cycle continues.
My idea is based on my research that the tubifex worms are great eaters of waste, by that it will make them breed and will be a great source of food for the fish, same as to the plants that are also great waste eaters.
I am just wondering if this system will be applied, could it affect the quality of the fish? Specifically, if the fish is for consumption use like Tilapias?
I appreciate great exchanges of ideas.
      More power and regards,
      Don

Yes you can, they will grow well and improve the biodiversity of your setup :)

Not yet! I'm just getting my first system started. Starting slow at first with a flood/drain bucket system. No fish yet. I figured I should my hand at not killing plants first, then graduate on to not killing fish at the same time. It's people like you who have been a huge help to me and I'm sure countless other. Keep it up brother!
