As someone who’s trained in old school TKD for almost 40 years I can tell you this guy is the real deal. This footwork is something I learned many years ago from a top point fighter. We called it the power slide. Very applicable w sidekicks as well. My instructor was a short Korean. He always emphasized footwork like this. A huge advantage against someone unfamiliar w it. I can remember using it for one of the first times sparring w a group of very good shotokan stylists. They were effective w grabs, sweeps and punches , but totally helpless against someone who could bridge the gap while kicking or punching, rather than bridging the gap and then striking. High level concept fr Master Woo.
What if my opponent has arms?

Awesome stuff :)
Very useful information for me since nearly every opponent I will face will be taller than me by 6 inches :P
same for me...i'm 155 cm tall haha
i know i have to break the range but it's easier said than done.

Very useful info. Detailed
Outstanding
and thank you for that shift advice... it'll be useful
Please make more videos. You're the best of the best💪
very useful, thx!
Hey Master Woo! Your advice is genius and it has helped me constantly through my years of training. Thanks
I had a quick question if you dont mind. I have been researching the subjec, and would like your opinion --In a situation where you are suddenly confronted by a violent and angry attacker, many people will tend to "freeze" in fear, and they may forget their years of triannig, do you have any advice to help people who have a problem with fear and intimidation? Thank you master! best wishes.
Training these moves in sparring/ drills overtime will help deal with the stress revolved around self defence
Hmm... I've always been taught to stay closer to a taller opponent by jamming so its really hard for him to score any points.
Only once you engage the sequence, you can begin to fight
with holding each other
is there a similar video with a moving target? ie. a sparring partner? i would like to see it in action like its a sparring match. im having trouble with sparring a tall, yet evasive/defensive opponent that attacks with fake kicks combo with headshots or chest hits....
Nice video. You may also want to checkout the review of how to fight on my blog at *bradleyreviews. com/how-to-fight-review/* Thanks, Cory.
Of course, however you can stay close to your opponent all the time, knowing how to respond from the distance will boost your confidence.
OK 1st take your distance try to score then jam so if he wanted to score his or her longer leg won't help him but if he or she a good fighter he could get you with a jump back kick or a huck or bend his leg to make his distance shorter and kick your face with an Axe (ineratchagy) so you need to know your good the other fighter and what he can do if you used the very close tachnice with him I wish that make some sense
i love it , i super love it
I appreciate your comments and support.
i'm 6feet3inches so i've never fought a taller opponent but the bigger guys tend to be slower than me since i train with shorter fasters guys... i automatically usually have the advantage against fighters my height
You are so good at explaining
Thanks.
oh my good, very nice (y)
now people no how to take me down LOL jk great video thanks for uploading master Woo
I really appreciate these videos! thank you!
I have received a broken arm from a no. 2 round kick, and two fractured ribs from a rear horse kick. I'm a 2nd degree black belt. I don't think the kicks caress.
very good kick
I feel you bro
i like to watch this master video he teach me a lot thing in taekwondo
WHAT HAS HE TAUGHT YOU
I WANT TO KNOW
Could you do a video on how to fight using the modern style (cut kicks e.t.c) targeted especially for the elite black belt cadets, thanks
I've done all that in Sparring 101. Check it out!
THANKS MASTER 🥋🥋🥋
You are very welcome, thank you for your support.
This looks easy in theory, but against someone taller and twice your size and weight? They'll thrash you. You don't even have time to think, you just have to move before you get hit. Man, it sucks whenever I'm paired with a huge opponent, it's so hard to get any kicks in!
I know how you feel! I'm a chubby guy and I usually got paired up with taller guys.
+RedBird 3107 Try using better combos to set it all up.
What I would do against a HUGE opponent and stand in front of a wall and when he runs super fast trying to catch me I move out of the way once he gets in close range then he will hit the wall HARD and make a few counter attacks behind his back
Haha, life isn’t always fair right? however have some confidence and bigger is not always better.
RedBird 3107 get in closer to them I've won every tournament doing that I jam there space making it so hard to the point were there foot reaches out but u want to keep ur hands up cuz they will score points from punching in the head
It has certainly served me before in a fight.
I’m 3rd tallest in my class is more like “how to fight someone smaller than you” 😂
I'm one of the tallest in my team+legs go really high. Shorter opponents always go really close. In sparring my teacher constantly tells me to go more far from the opponent since my legs can already reach them, otherwise my foot will not touch their body, my thigh will(because of the really close distance). So if you're shorter the key is to go as close as possible.
thxx man, i wanted to buy it to train alone in my house you know
Thank you, master Woo ! :-)
You are very welcome, thank you for your support.
Is it advisable to try a kick your opponents head if you're shorter?
sport TKD has many practical weaknesses, yes. However, one is able to apply the ideas in TKD (in general) to street fights. It's the same with everything... MMA, Karate, Jiu Jitsu, all martial arts (unless they are DESIGNED with street fights in mind).
Interested 👍👍👍👍
Thanks
I feel bad... for that kick dummy!! Problem with taller fighters is they know their distance. Though I'm a lower belt I spar against my other black belt who is 6'2''. I am 5'9'' but how I get in one him is let him attack and just counter on him. Master Woo this very helpful. Thank you.
thanks master woo
You are very welcome, thank you for your support.
very nice
I wish you were here in Arizona!
Ha Ha, Thanks for the support.
thankyou...that good
That's nice to hear, thank you for your support.
Tnk u Sir
what's the name of the item what u use to kick? this thing that have a half human body
yessss im so happy i got my brown belt today
Did you finish yet
i'm 2m&38cm tall
and i do tae kwon doo
i am the next fire avatar
If my opponent is taller then me i charge with my fists or run and leg kick and just start hitting him is that good
I believe it's called a "Body Opponent Bag", but I hear it just called "Bob" a lot.
So Cool
Wow, Thank you so much.
The problem I am having with one guy in particular is he is also quicker than me. I'm stronger than he is, but his reach and speed advantage mean he is able to keep me off of him. I need techniques to beat a longer, faster opponent. If I could take him down, he'd be screwed. But in TKD we are not allowed to do that.
Whed are you located I thought about sighing up with are you in Minnesota at that wher I live
ITS SIGNING
NOT SIGHING
yeah it works I just need I kicking speed
what state is TAEKWONWOO in?
I want to study some tricks means to block or fight as fast as possible
"Kick and run away". That is not a good advice for some reasons:
1. Taller opponents have advantages over you in a distance fight, as their attacking range is much wider than yours.
2. You are actually turning your back against your opponent, making you vulnerable to an attack. If you are in Taekwondo sparring competition, you will get you marks deducted as well
Sir, your nerve endings are severely screwed if a kick tickles.....
Everybody in my school are the same height just way bigger then me LOL
Go for the knees if they can't walk they can't fight
Same..
in "reality" i apply it at least once a week.i find it to be a great finisher because it is complicated yet simple to throw, confusing/fast yet extremely powerful. im sorry i don't live with you and your fight club buddies. all i have is my 14 years of daily experience and a few amateur fights. ill ask my 5th dan teacher his thoughts tomorrow. damn my life sucks and im such a wanabe :(
what if your opponent throws a kick out mid skip? or even worse a punch?
You may want to check it out our new training course Sparring 101. Thank you for watching and your support.
what if the opponent uses back kick
What are you getting at???
Master, do you have any video about flexibility? Some years ago (more than 10, actually), I used to train TKD, I really liked it, it was fun and all, but I never had good flexibility. Seeing people who could easily kick above their heads made me feel bad, and I forced beyond my limits, which hurted me badly (a "pop" near the hip region). Nevertheless, I managed to get my red belt, but never could perform really high kicks decently, I relied on pure strength to rise my leg above head. Do you have any tips?
Thanks in advance
Practice song basic lunges, hold for 10 seconds. When you do try to kick high, raise your knee as high as possible. That will make your kick go higher.
Put your foot on a wall, about waist high. Gradually lift your foot higher on the wall until you can't go any higher. Try and make your leg go an inch beyond your limits and hold for 10 seconds.
Practice doing the splits. The farther down you go, the easier these drills will become overtime.
Wish you best of luck!
'some basic lunges
Sorry for any typos. It's hard to get words right when your keyboard is small
+bruno couto When did you started training in taekwondo? I Started when i was 9 years old i think.
+John Gitlan about 14 years ago, I guess. I'm gradually learning about flexibility these days. Gradually because I don't have patience to stick to a given task for too much time, lol. Mostly because the sources I search for knowledge are in English, and it's not my first language. But anyway, I just discovered about active stretch and passive stretch, the most used form of stretch. If one looks forward to get splits for a really long time, even when old, he should invest more time in active stretch
bruno couto yeah but how old are you?
I wanted this tutorial to defeat my master. He is 6 feet tall and I am 5" 4'
can taekwondo help us to self defense
But....What shall I do if my opponent has arms ?
YOU FIGHT YOU IDIOT
nice movements
Thank you!
👍😊
I like this....But how hard can those kicks really be?? It looks like they would be really weak?
Those kicks can break ribs or cause some internal bleeding and if it's on the head it's probably a knockout but it varies from each person
+THE PHOENIXLORD
Yea. I was thinking the same thing as Alex Charles until I saw the guy kicking in real time. I was like "How is that gonna have any power?" Then boom.... "Wow.. I stand corrected lol"
TKD is a beautiful art. Such mastery over one's own body...
I appreciate your comment.
:)
Nice can u make a videobon ufc please
Thanks, and I appreciate your suggestions.
Taekwondo woo, do u fight sir in competition ?
Retired in 1992.
thank you Master!
You're welcome.
How about head kicks?

I love tkd
some students may hop back and kick you. also watch the outside to inside crescent kick, works good in close range for tall people
my tykwondo teacher is short and he is a sixth degree black belt. If you ever saw him fight you would not want to mess with him😨
Thank you for watching.

i want to join taekwondo im in 9th grade and im really short im like 5'1 and everybody is taller then me. and if i go to taekwondo for kids im afraid ill get knocked out by a kid because i barely started.
Don't be afraid you will be doing just fine!
How tall are you now
What do I do if my opponent has arms?
Even better.
uhhm so you are in a fight you punch some1 in his face and than you go search for a pencil to stab his eyes out?
GG RIBS
i just wanna say I'm one of the taller opponents and hey bigger is not ALWAYS better.
Ha Ha, I agree.
What about the guy who stays on one leg ALL THE TIME, and just follows you with the other leg. Its very hard to get into the target space! OLD BOB doesn't have arms, either! These guys that lean way back, with one leg always up-like a scorpion, and just pop pop-he score the point, and you don't have a chance to really get the second or third shot. You can't hit below the belt, or in the back (obviously).
TheKlbrister If your opponent spends a lot of time on one foot, can't you sweep them down? If they're waiting for you to exploit the weakness (risking balance with one foot on the ground), I'd imagine something like a feign punch or two would allow you to close the distance for a sweep takedown or even a well-timed spinning hook kick to the face. But these are just thoughts, I hope they're of any help.
I LOOOVE spinning heal kicks! I'm still trying to get out of "deer in headlight" syndrome. That takes practice. I don't know if the sweep would be considered "dirty" or not. That's a good question. Different organizations have different ideas of what's "civilized". This organization I'm in doesn't enforce gear at black belt level. They allow face shots (not that you just hammer on people). Kids go running home crying, sometimes. I'm working on trying to "out maneuver" someone who is more skilled than I am, and they just shoot a kick right into a 4 inch space, regardless of blocking efforts. The people who keep the leg up, and have spider legs (I'm short), people who jump high, I have bad knees. I would be better off coming up from underneath, but...it's hard work. I'm determined. This isn't "enrichment" for me, this is TRAINING! Thank you for the advice. I will write it down to practice it! Have a Blessed Day! Thank you!
TheKlbrister The "scorpion" stance (great description) is now illegal in WTF rules as you can't hold your leg up for more than 3 seconds without performing a strike. However you say the organization has different rules, the way I used to deal with this was:
Step in with a low body block striking and controlling the raised leg (do not let it front hook kick you), your body should be on the outside of theirs.
Bring your rear leg up to a crescent or axe kick and nail your heel into their face
It's easy, it hurts them and they will not be feeling so confident to stand in such a stupid position
Other option is to "fake" missing with an axe kick and bring it down on their leg at worst you will get a half point deduction, most likely a warning.
When someone does a move you don't like , take a break from going for the points and make them afraid to do that move then go back to scoring.
BAHAHAHAHAHA! I know some people that would NOT BE HAPPY TO KNOW THIS! I wish I could star * this to remember-very helpful information. Thank you! Question: When doing Hyeongs, what is a "front kick" to you? I saw this girl from Korea, and her kicks looked like she came from the Bolshoi ballet. I'm a girl, and it seems guys do them differently. I didn't like that "grande bantement" style for a front kick, but she won the medal. I hit with the ball of my foot. I try to envision forms as if someone is in front of me sparring. Weird.
TheKlbrister yes but he's armless enough ;DD
the intro was the same as nerd3's!!!!
Master Woo, how if the opponent capture my kicks. What will i'll do?
In official sparring we are not allow to grab each other leg however in real fighting, I guess you need to learn some self-defense techniques for that.
Its much better to step inside of his guard rendering his strikes useless and weak. Staying outside allows them an oppurtunity to throw a wild punch and catch you as you step in. This is not a smart technique for a legitimate fight
What my opponent has arms
Thank you for watching.
Rycon The elbow may be broken..
thanks for the technique sir..
my tactic is groin strikes then kick or take down
they wear protection for the balls...
Thank you for watching.
Now I am get yellow belt but I think I don't have enough ability to fight
I'm yellow belt too :) I was at the WTF Irish nationals and got put against a whale :p
Keep it up!
no i tornado kicke someone in a fight to the face and instantly knocked him out it is not useless
Every Martial Art has a disadvantage.

Oh, Thank you so much.

Poor Bob the dummy! I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Master Woo's foot! It sounds like a shot-gun going off when it plays in slow motion...
Pozdrawiam !:)
Sorry but I don't understand your comment.
I will say two things, these kicks are already for the initiate, someone without a basis never kick like this, and If someone will sense you when you make skip, he can counterattack you jop chagi. Regards :)
in real situation fighting, i wont kick my opponent on the head, i would kick the his ball. longest of me to closest of him.
Zain Iqbal in real fight , u dont think about what u doing and u shaking, you just wait for the enemy attack and you give him back , in a real fight you forgot from all what you learn and from all MMA....
Ido122122 wait enemy attack? i would rather intercept him. you will be forget if you just do train as train not as your way, how can you forget way to eat if you repeat it every day?
