  • Today’s churches are in dire need of pastors who don’t just deliver impressive sermons from the pulpit, but also actually lead souls to Christ. Pastors must strive toward that end, realizing that doing so will require intense spiritual discipline. Alistair Begg encourages us to aim well, execute consistently, and finish strong in our mission to proclaim the Gospel to a lost world.
    Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:1-27
    Preached: May 17, 2006

You do a petty good southern gentleman Alistair I enjoy your sermons so much, sometimes when I hit a wall when someone who drinks might say I need an A.A meeting with me I'll think I need a good sermon to lift me up and get me going, so many times it is the word threw you that I turn

Isaiah 53:5, he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes, we are healed.
For salvation, we just need to follow the way they did it in Acts? They were baptized in water for the removal of sins and filled with the Holy Ghost. Here's why! The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. If we are to follow him, we must do the same thing. Death= repentance, Burial = baptism, and resurrection = being filled and rising again from the dead. That's what Acts 2:38 is.
We must obey the gospel, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ... Matthew 7:21-23, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in Heaven. St John 3:3-5, EXCEPT a man, be born of WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD.
We can't come up with our own gospel. Galatians 1:8-9, But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Don't be cursed.
One way for all people. Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans. Our salvation has to match up with the scriptures and no scriptures on the subject can be taken away.
Eternity is TOOO long to be WRONG! st, John 5:39, Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38.
The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church.
It's better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction.
Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, And they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.
Don't get Titus 3:5 mixed up with James 2:14-26, about WORKS. One is a WORK of your OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS OR GOOD DEEDS and the other is a WORK OF FAITH. Titus 1:16, They profess that they know God; but in WORKS they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
If you believe in this message, be blessed by God in helping to spread it in the name of Jesus Christ so people can get saved the right way. God bless you

Water baptism doesn't give you the Holy Spirit. It is a supernatural gift from God. If it was that simple John 3:1-8 wouldn't exist. I believed for over 50 years before this miracle happened. 🙏♥️🙏

@@mikemccormick9667 LOl. I wonder who said that? Water baptism according to the word of God, takes away sins. Acts 2:38. Water is water and spirit is spirit. Water itself can't take away sin, but OBEDIENCE TO WATER BAPTISM DOES. Salvation in our time is nothing to fight over. Jesus Christ set up one way for all people. Jew, Gentile, and Samaritans, all came the same way. God is not the author of confusion, so he didn't put out all these different ways to be saved. Have you obeyed Acts 2;38 yet?

@@rossdaboss1959 Well I won't lol your reply but did you actually read it? Water baptism doesn't take away sin but obedience to water baptism does. I guess that makes sense to you. If water baptism gives you the Holy Spirit what happened to John's disciples in Acts 19?
      Acts 19
      New International Version
      Paul in Ephesus
19 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?”
They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
      “John’s baptism,” they replied.
4 Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[b] and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all.
The apostolic gift of laying on hands to receive the Holy Spirit ended with the death of the Apostles. Now God gifts this miracle to His elect. If water baptism was all that was required to receive the Holy Spirit Jesus would have said so. But He didn't.
      John 3:1-8
      New International Version
      Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
3 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”
4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d]
      Romans 8:9-11
      ⁰New International Version
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[b] his Spirit who lives in you.

@@mikemccormick9667 I hope I'm not talking to a kid. I forgot everybody can't see. What in the world are you talking about. Obey Acts 2:38 just like everybody else. You can't put it off and be saved when you have the opportunity to. All came the same way. Grow up and stop trying to put thought in my head. I NEVER SAID WATER BAPTISM GIVES THE HOLY GHOST. I obeyed Acts 2:38 over 40 years ago and I know that's not true at all. One must repent, Luke 13:3. Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the removal of sins and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. You are very deceived if you think the Holy Ghost is gone. Lol. You stuck on a lie. The devil don't want you to receive it. Romans 8:9. Read it. Please stop bothering me.

@@rossdaboss1959 No you said OBEDIENCE TO WATER BAPTISM washes away sin. I'm 61 years old. I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit. I don't know if you have. I just know without the Holy Spirit you can't understand scripture. I wonder why others didn't jump on your blueprint for salvation? Because it isn't true. Acts 2:38 was addressed to the Jews. As part of the Abrahamic Covenant. I wish you well and I pray you are gifted with the Holy Spirit. But GOD does the choosing.
