As a very young child, being out on the Golf Course aged around 7 or 8 years. My father would take myself, my Mother and brother on a Saturday evening to the Odd Fellows public house in Falmouth. Time around 9.30. I saw lots of men, probably older than my Dad. They were jolly and in good humour, bid me well and acknowledged my Mother. Dad would be sucked into the group and Mother, myself and brother, would be whisked off home in a taxi. I do remember hearing melodic chords, voices hail and hearty, just warming up but had enough time to hear those melodious tones issue forth. Later in years, the same group of men went to the Sea View Inn. There they would assemble at around 10.30 pm and sing across the water to Flushing (where I now live). Once they were done, the boys over in Flushing would sing back across the same water. Sound carries at eventide, especially when the water is calm and flat. The memories of hearing those beautiful chords, four part harmony will stay with me until I die. It was a once-in-a-loifetime experience. Sadly, we'll not get that time again. Born here, will die here, and am old enough to have heard it first hand.
