For once I must disagree with pastor about having a picture of Jesus. It’s totally wrong. No one knows how Jesus looks. A picture or a painting of a person supposedly being Jesus is wrong. Looking at the painting, in their mind it’s Jesus but really it’s not.
Everyone who has a picture/painting of Jesus knows that. It would be wrong to say it IS the real Jesus. It's called art. We all have seen paintings of the stories in the Bible like Adam and Eve in the Garden, Noah finishing the ark and the animals arriving, the Last Supper, etc, and none are wrong to see nor have. We even give children a lot of illustrations like this. Art is created by God, He's the greatest Artist of all and art can and is used by Him to help us imagine, to inspire us, to heal, to draw us to Him, etc. I just can imagine an artist, moved by the Holy Spirit and their love for Jesus that their way of expressing it is to put into canvas what their minds long to look at: the face of Jesus. I imagine the artist painting, sculpting, drawing, etc, with passion and sharing their att with excitement to others, that they may also love the Desired of the nations.
There's so many other things we can say about this but I'll leave you with this: saying that Jesus thinks it's wrong to make artistic representations of Him because they're inaccurate, I think it's as absurd as imagining Him getting upset because He's called Jesus and not Yeshua, as imagining Him stating is wrong to call Him Jesus because it's inaccurate.
I believe this is a matter of each individual's conscience. If you think it is not appropriate or convenient for you to have a picture of Jesus, don't have one. But let's give space for the Holy Spirit to work as He wants in and through every person, that they may be added each second for the Kingdom of our Lord and find their home in Him, the One who created each one of them...as an artist would.
In the end, bad it would be to have people carrying and making paintings of Satan out of admiration for him or something like that.
Yes I agree. Nobody is perfect so you should disagree once in a while.
Pictures of Jesus are wrong and more they are silly. I have mixed feelings though. For example I liked churches with stained glass, and I like the whole concept that these decorations were helpful to illiterate folks who could not read the Bible. It could help remind them and understand important Bible topics.
It is different though to just have images of Jesus. No story to tell... To understand how it is wrong we just have to look at the Catholic and the Eastern Orthodox churches. It doesn't take much until people can backslide and begin worshiping idols again... Bowing and kissing statues of Mary, and the Orthodox "icons" which are all false idols they worship and lie about.
