My theory is that when a reposado or anejo tequila tastes off coming from the barrel they put it through the carbon filters to remove any off flavors/any impact from the barrel. But since they spent the time to barrel it they still want to put a premium price on it so they call it "smooth". The ones ive had seem like tequila diluted with quality vodka
I am sure you guys are aware that silver or plata Spanish style rum (Puerto Rican, Cuban, etc) is often aged in wood and then filtered clear, been that way for years. Bacardi was a pioneer in this area, having a patented "secret" process, and during the last Tequila "boom" they invested heavily in the Tequila industry and bought out such brands as Cazadores (used to be one of my favorites back in the day) and Patron. Is it really a coincidence we are now seeing filtered "cristalano" Tequila?
Cazadores literally ran out of stock when it first came out and has stayed as the best tequila for older mexican generations. Centenario is the new popular tequila since 10 or more years ago and Don Julio is the bottle you bring to impress
There were a lot of good Tequilas before the first Tequila "boom", before producers resorted to modern industrial methods and over utilizing the allowance of additives to make up for the product shortage and the shortage of mature agave. When you talked "bad" Tequila back then you were talking about the cheap mixtos made for export north. Don't get me wrong, diffuser tequila can be good, especially if you have never had the older style, its all a matter of taste and the care put into production. The chemically processed stuff of today though is no match for the traditional spirit, even if it is 100% agave.@@Alpqmzasd
I didn’t know they had a cristalino reposado that’s such a marketing jip for almost $75 introducing a joven makes more sense but first off it’s gotta be a real tequila
Cristalinos are charcoal filtered. Such a dumb tactic. It’s supposed to be more sustainable but it alters the flavor so much especially if you have a quality tequila.
Reminds me of tasting a 60$ 1yr Sherry cask clear whiskey was very unimpressed. Welcome to the mid side, Liquor Store Bros🍻.
Always a fun time watching the reviews. Loving the new camera.

This is a very good theory. This could definitely be right.
