And you have to wonder; who exactly did the ancestors of Shandora fight against to defend the Poneglyph in the first place? As for Fishman Island, it was hyped up because it was Level 1 of the "big leagues". And it gave use a closer look at how screwed up the world is, even under the sea.

Since you don't seem to understand, I'll explain it to you. There is no single "Main story plot" as you said, and there often isn't in shonens, there is an overall purpose or goal(to be the pirate king), and then there is story arcs which introduce new conflicts and characters. If you view each arc as separate, then they are almost perfectly paced and well told. The fact that the series is 700 chapters long justifies it being that long in and of itself. They won't continue to publish a bad manga
