@TracyIce I had to add another command. It was the *. There's a path command that came out as an option, so I had to add the * instead of the password, then it asked me to change the password. But then I also realized I needed to change it back to normal & little disappointing to know there was no video showing how to do it backwards. I had to figure it by myself, which it let me do it inside windows w/o having to use the CMD prompt. Deleting the "cmd" in c://windows/system32 then replacing the utilman.exe in that dame folder with the original utilman.exe in the win wow64 folder. After entering in the new password (where you typed 123456), your system says “The command completed successfully”. Mine says “[username [password l *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]” and a bunch of other stuff. Am I doing something wrong?
I'm guessing you have a space in your username. If this is true then put the username in quotes. E.g. net user "John Smith" 123456 If you care to know why it's because the spaces are delimiters so the program thinks you are giving it 3 things instead of 2. Best of luck to you.

I followed this procedure. When I restart the computer after removing the USB drive, and I press the 'ease of access' button, I do not see the command prompt window. The screen remains unchanged with the user name and password entry line there, as before. Any idea what is going wrong? Thanks.
Best guess is that you didn't overwrite the utilman.exe file. That's the most common problem. The icon points to utilman.exe, so if you replace that with cmd.exe, it will open command prompt. Try again and verify that it asks you to confirm overwriting the file
Yes, it will. Again, you aren't clearing the Windows login, you are bypassing it to get into the user's profile. Microsoft security is pretty tight. This is the only way to get around it that I have found.
I thought I addressed it in the end of the video, but maybe not. Jus reverse the original process of renaming. If you backed up utilman.exe to utilman.bak, then you can "copy utilman.bak utilman.exe". Basically you're replacing the utilman.xxx back to its original location. The "new" utilman is actually cmd.exe (command prompt), so we have to put it back to where it was originally
The only time that error occurs is when there is disc corruption OR you are running that command from the wrong location. Run system file checker first..from a command prompt, type SFC /scannow and then try again after the scan
I went ahead to try and I get to the part for command prompt and i get not recognized as an internal or external command. I believe my issue is TMP or something in the ball security locked me out thinking it was a brood attack so I'm stuck
Will this work if I've been locked out? I was cleaning juice from keyboard and I guess it thought I was hacking it. I tried a1b2c3 but when I type it says incorrect that's all, no timer no reason and most of all no log in options. I'm at a loss any suggestions.
Thank you. I used part of your video, then i had to use some one else cause i got "syntax incorrect" message cause i had to add the * to change the password. It was differentresult in this one, i still don't understandwhy, but I think maybe you should of done a video to do the opposite, to return the computer to its normal status. Problem is after I copy the cmd.exe to utilman.exe.. It is there immediately after copy but somehow it automatically is deleted. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Deleted as in "it vanished"? There's no reason for that unless the cmd/utilman file is infected and your antivirus is quarantining it immediately. Only thing that I can imagine that would cause it to just disappear without user intervention
This video shows you how to clear any local password, including an administrative password. I just made a video two weeks ago with software that shows how to clear a Microsoft password using some specialized software. I also have another video similar to this one you watched that shows you how to access files under your Microsoft account, but won't let you clear the password, just bypass it
I run into some problem. The Windows on my computer is on D drive. I think I followed all the steps. But then when I restarted the computer the ease of access does not do anything when I click it. Before there were some features and they are all disappeared. One more question: when I copy the utilman.exe file or execute other commands do I need to type D:\ in the end? Thanks a lot.
So,you're saying that when you login to Windows, it actually shows your files and Windows folder on D drive, or is that only happening when running a specific utility? That isn't that uncommon as a virtual drive is created to run utilities on C and it has to be free and unlocked to use it
@@AskYourComputerGuy Thank you. Yes, I first tried C driver, but I couldn't copy the file. After switching to D and use dir I saw the windows system is on D. I also took out the drive and connected to another computer and everything seems to be just on one drive.
Yeah my guess is MBR. If you can repair it, that should put the C drive back as the boot drive. If that doesn't work, you can try a Windows refresh from the troubleshooting menu. After that, I would reinstall Windows to fix it for certain
You can bypass it to get in and see the files under that profile, but no way to clear the password. It's attached to Microsoft. However, once you are in and create an admin account, you can absolutely delete the Microsoft account. I've done it hundreds of times.
Only through the back end. Once you are in the machine under an admin account, you can access all of those files under the Microsoft account. No way to bypass the password. None. But if you just need access to the files, this will work
This error occurs when you try to change a Microsoft account password from a net user command. This video is how to reset a local account user. There is another video I made on how to bypass a Microsoft account password, that should help you.
It’s not a trick. You’re just replacing one windows file with another, and that allows you to access command prompt where it is normally not available. There’s no malware or viruses or anything for a defender to worry about.
@@AskYourComputerGuy One time when i tried this a few years ago, and it didn't work After signing in to the system, Windows Defender gave an alert that it had detected a modified file and blocked it
@Tony-u9f my latest video shows how to create a Windows installer disc: Roll back Windows 11 to Windows 10 back quickly and easily! ua-cam.com/video/hbeIFpRuazY/v-deo.html
Make sure you are in the c:\windows\system32 folder. That is where it is located. You can also do a search on c (type CD.. twice to go back to root of C). To search, type "dir util*.* /s ...that will show you the location of the file if it has been moved for some reason.
Yes. When you download the tool and run it, it will auto create the boot drive you need, either on USB flash or DVD. You should be able to specify during the process which you want to use
You will probably need to get a Windows installer disc then. You can do that here: How to LEGALLY download Windows 7, 8 or 10 or Office FREE! ua-cam.com/video/5naOPxd6vsI/v-deo.html

I'm actually about to make a video on how to do this. Go to search bar, type UAC and select user account control settings. Bring the slider all the way down to "never notify" and that's it
When you try to login and click on the -> if you had set up a reminder when you first created the account, you will see it there. If you left it blank, you won't see one
You'll need to download the Windows installer so can get into a command prompt without password to clear out the password. I made a video on how to download one to USB. You'll need access to a working computer and a clean USB drive. Once you create that and boot to it (or Windows DVD if you have one), then the instructions will work for you and allow you to clear your password and get back into your PC
@@AskYourComputerGuy I have a DVD but it isn't booting to it at all. It's the same disc I've installed Windows with. However when I try to boot, the automatic repair comes up.

Restart by holding down shift when restarting in Windows. That will give you the troubleshooting menus. If those menus don't help, tap F12 at startup and you can change your boot drive to the flash drive and repair menus will be available there
Also try c:\windows (enter). Then from that prompt, type cd system32. That will definitely take care of your issue. The only time system32 doesn't exist is if Windows isn't working at all :)
@@AskYourComputerGuy I already tried those and it didn't work but fixed the issue with a different way. I got into system image recovery with that flash boot and accessed system files. Then I renamed cmd to "Utilman" so I can access the prompt command from the login screen. Finally I changed the password with that cmd and logged in. For the people who was in the same trouble, you can try this.
At what point are you seeing that? Anytime you see a disc error, that's not good. That means either the drive you are accessing has a problem, or the flash drive you are using does. Regardless, that needs to be addressed first.

Best guess is that you didn't overwrite the utilman.exe file. That's the most common problem. The icon points to utilman.exe, so if you replace that with cmd.exe, it will open command prompt. Try again and verify that it asks you to confirm overwriting the file

Great to hear!
Does it work with pins too
Yes, it will. Again, you aren't clearing the Windows login, you are bypassing it to get into the user's profile. Microsoft security is pretty tight. This is the only way to get around it that I have found.

The same or higher, yes. If you have W7, then you need at least 7, 10 or even 11. It might work the other way, but I doubt it
Man THANK YOU !!
You are welcome! 👍
Great! Are there any extra steps so that utilman.exe performs it main function again? Would I need to delete the copy that was made in step one?
If you renamed the file, just delete the copy of cmd and rename the original util file back to its original :)
@@AskYourComputerGuy ayy yoooo that worked thank man!
My pleasure! Thanks for your support :)
Thanks it worked great, but can you explain how to reset utilman.exe so the command prompt doesn't display.
@@AskYourComputerGuy Thanks
It keeps showing "DNS server not authoritative for zone" when i try to change the password
So you couldn't even enter command prompt?

Absolutely yes
Is there any way to bring back old password back when bypassing if you don't know it?
U cant, but if After enter the username u leave it blank, There Will not be any password
Negative. Easy workaround, create an admin account, then when you login to it, you can reset all the other local account passwords 👍
How can I restore the easy access command back to how it was instead of getting the cmd?
Just reverse the process, rename the cmd back to utilman 👍

It was differentresult in this one, i still don't understandwhy, but I think maybe you should of done a video to do the opposite, to return the computer to its normal status. @smnnjr4378 I agree. This video was made almost 3 years ago. I've tried to consider the experience level of my target viewer since then. Thanks for the feedback and encouragement 👍
I exited out of the cmd now when I hit ease of access it won't pull up cmd
Once you rename utilman.exe to cmd.exe, it will always pull up command prompt. You literally change the button to a new command. Restart and try again

Probably because it's not bootable, it's just a file on the drive. Use Rufus to take that ISO and make it bootable 💪
when i type cd windows/system32 i gives me file cannot be found
Try the \ not the /
Can a password change by itself in windows 10
No
when copying the utilman i get "access denied 0 items copied" is there a way to grant access?
You have to run the commands as administrator
@@AskYourComputerGuy Thanks, running as admin allows the copy but I still get access denied when trying to overwrite.
Trying to do it when already logged in, not going through the flash drive boot method, will that be affecting it?
That's likely why, because the file is in use. Try the flash boot method, which will absolutely allow it 👍

Deleted as in "it vanished"? There's no reason for that unless the cmd/utilman file is infected and your antivirus is quarantining it immediately. Only thing that I can imagine that would cause it to just disappear without user intervention

What if my administration password as well as microsoft password that I don't know How can I acess it now plz help 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I was not able to log in and see the structure of the hard drive. Only when I was running the specific utility.
Sounds like your MBR (master boot record) is damaged. Try these steps to repair it: pureinfotech.com/repair-master-boot-record-mbr-windows-10/

@@AskYourComputerGuy there's no way to get access in the profile, even with a bootable usb ?
Only through the back end. Once you are in the machine under an admin account, you can access all of those files under the Microsoft account. No way to bypass the password. None. But if you just need access to the files, this will work
Mine says error 8646 has occured. Stating the system is not authoritative for the specified account
This error occurs when you try to change a Microsoft account password from a net user command. This video is how to reset a local account user. There is another video I made on how to bypass a Microsoft account password, that should help you.
I discovered that Windows Defender seems to be wise to this trick
It’s not a trick. You’re just replacing one windows file with another, and that allows you to access command prompt where it is normally not available. There’s no malware or viruses or anything for a defender to worry about.
