There's a lot to be said for the difficulty of tumbling today, but damn, I miss these unique combination passes. You see girls like Shushunova and Omelianchik and, yes, baby!Chuso combining seemingly simple skills in incredible back-to-back passes like the one here and you have to wonder where that creativity went.
Back to back tumbling has been banned in gymnastics. They were too much of a safety risk. It’s not about the fact that ‘the creativity disappeared’ it’s that gymnastics is now a much safer sport and less and less people are getting critical injuries.
@@piper0940 Back-to-back tumbling is not banned at all, it's just not worth it because it would pick up too many deductions and only two of the skills used in the entire acro line would have high enough values to count towards the final score. Secondly the creativity has absolutely disappeared from the sport not only in terms of difficulty but also in terms of artistry. Look at this routine, in spite of the immense difficulty there is proper choreography which is very well executed too--and that is with much inferior everything (from equipment to sports science). Yet today all we see is skill after skill with _filler_ in between. The lastly, more people are getting injured than ever before. With the elimination of compulsories and the open-ended code gymnasts are being rushed to acquire difficulty before perfecting their technique; a perfect example of this being the double tuck. Up until 2009 the double tuck was a C-skill, yet now with the most springy floors to date we seldom see one performed without flexed feet, leg separations, and shaky landings; even when used as an opening tumble.

One of the only times I've seen her do the full twist into the somersault on her full in. After this she did a full out on floor which is more difficult. I think she was learning her skill the Chosovatina on floor which she does a double layout full out and adapted the tuck position to the same
McDonald's Challenge USA vs UdSSR? That sounds like some awesome post Cold War sports diplomacy. Sadly, this seems long ago now. :-( But Chuso still rocks!

This is her best floor routine. Tumbling, dance, music. I remember falling in love with her in 1990 European Junior Championships with this routine.

I agree even the dance in this was a lot better than in her 08 routine.. I really would like to see her go back to this!
