I would LOVE to decorate a tree creatively, but my grown girls are very sentimental and expect to see the “family” ornaments that chronicle our lives. It really is special. As we get older, we decorate less and less. I think it’s time to pass the ornaments on to the next generation. 😊🎄
Lovely ideas. Our tree has evolved over the years now that we have more grandkids than kids! I have lots of ornaments that have sentimental value as they were gifts or belonged to family members that have passed away. Very eclectic, colorful, and fun. Last year, though, both the hubs and I weren't very energetic about decorating. He is a professional theatre guy, so he has been in charge of the "set design" of the family room since the pandemic. Last year, he went with an all red palate with balls, birds, bells and berries. It was gorgeous. I think he will probably go with that again this year. Thanks for sharing your ideas; I know we can all use the inspiration!
Your shower curtain art hack is GENIUS. I've been searching for a large Christmas-themed print/painting for YEARS....to no avail. They've either been too goofy, too small, or ridiculously expensive. Am going on Amazon to browse Holiday Shower curtains immediately, and heading to my thrift store for a canvas in the morning. :)
Hi, Christina. I’m usually a traditional red and green colored Christmas decorator, but this year, after moving across the country and donating most of my Christmas items to Good will, I found a beautiful wreath of blues, whites and silver for $4! It’s just beautiful and hangs on my front door. So, that’s my color scheme this year.
We have been collecting ornaments throughout our 36 years of marriage … raising our three children, occasions, vacations. The memories and feelings evoked when we decorate our tree each year is what makes Christmas so special!!!
This was the first year I WAS doing a “pretty” tree, clear, golds, silvers & muted whites. I was going to split the family ornaments between my 2 adult sons for their bedrooms for when they come home (they each have a tall pencil tree in their rooms). As pretty as the tree was, I missed the “remember this” and the shared stories of family ornaments. So I just mixed pretty with family, I actually love it.
I Love the greenery swags on the mantle and the mirror!! I really haven’t had a Christmas tree in a few years ( husband collected quite the hoard of cats, then left, and got 19 cats!! Yes!! Moved out by the Animal Shelter and most got re-homed!!). Still have 3 so this year I got the Cherry Blossom tree from Walmart that is lit. Gonna leave out all year long!! Can decorate for every Holiday!! ❤ First year in along time that I can decorate and no cats climbing a tree and knocking over!! I was going to do blue and green (Love that combo) but doing that outside. Doing my Blossom tree in red and browns-pine cones, sleds, etc. All small ornaments. So excited!!!❤❤❤
Loved your artwork idea..so many possibilities. For our tree I have used reds and golds for many years. This year I thrifted 7.5 ft balsam hill tree for 100.00 that is a very dark green. Some of the lights were out so I took all those off and used led classic warm lights. I went with balls in shades of blue from baby blue, greenish blue to dark navy. I used birds for accent and picks with mistletoe, holly, gold frosted berries, all white lights, several types of tartan plaid blue and green ribbons, green velvet poinsettia, white frost twig branches with pinecones. All specialty decor was in the gold and white tones. I'm really happy with it and it will stay up through the end of January. Happy Holidays everyone!
Thank you for the Christmas art hack, it's brilliant! I've been searching for years as well but just can't invest so much money on something that is annually going to be used. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Love the canvas and shower curtain diy! Your house is lovely as well. I am a brand ambassador for Made by Marley, she creates decoupage paper . We all gave her the challenge of using a shower curtain to decoupage on a side board hutch. She used a large purple and blue octapus with a sea horse. Omg did it turn out great!
I have a tree similar like yours and each yr I which mine out with all red and gold bulbs with red and gold ribbons. Then the next yr I go all blue and silver bulbs with blue and silver ribbons with white. Plus always white Crystal white icicles. And of course all my babies 🐶 in white frames. Thank you for your canvas idea❤❤❤
I love the artwork idea! My tree is a "winter" tree with snowflakes, woodland birds and picks that are more winter forest related. I don't hang ornaments and I keep the tree up from November to mid-March. I use other woodland animals as decor along with my Christmas Village display.
We have a 9 ft Barcana with 3500 commercial lights permanently attached to it. It’s 3 pieces. Our tree tells the story of our life. We buy ornaments on vacations. Some are of hobbies or interests my kids had. My favorite is probably from 1943. It was the first ornament my in-laws had. It’s an angel, ceramic head and gold wire skirt covered in necklace fine chain skirt. She’s beautiful. I also love the teepee made from birch bark and sweet grass from Northern Minnesota. I also have 12 ornaments from the Better Homes and Gardens magazine I bought at the prop sale. They’re wooden curtain hoops with white linen cut and embroidered snow flakes. They have been featured in several magazines and books. These are from the late 70’s. My college roommate has the other 12. We’re 70 now. At the prop sale you bid on things pictured in the magazine. We bid $24 on 24 ornaments and won! They are priceless. This is the last year for the big tree. We just can’t handle putting it up and away. Last year my housekeeper decorated it for us.
I love how gorgeous your house, tree and style is! It’s classy and understated, and beautiful! My style has the dark green and dark reds. My tree is an eclectic collection of my kids’ homemade creations, the animal ornaments I’ve collected through the years (I hope to one day do an entirely animal ornament tree), and the items handed down from deceased relatives (especially my Mom). It is different from what I would do if I had made better money through the years, but, it’s a very homey and warm look!

I understand! Those family ornaments are so special.

This is amazing! Thank for sharing.
I have mostly Hallmark ornaments that I’ve been collecting for 46 yrs. They’re all different colors and I’ve got white lights.
Hallmark ornaments are so classic. I love the idea of collecting them over time.
