  • WELL, after three runs and giving this truck a bit of a hammering what do I think of the mammoth?....... Not telling, you will have to watch the video to find out :) It is worth watching. What a beast. Thank you for all of your support! Take care.

    Great truck & build video series. Very useful insight into the quality of the kit. I wasn't too sure about the blue color personally at first. But now I have seen the weathered version on the T247 trailer promo video I am sold. Keep up the good work on the videos etc.

    The Mammoth just out performs my Ural when I was out with one. it goes go over things well a part from the over hang of the front. But quality and build is the best Cross I have built. A fifth wheel trailer will be cool, hope you find one that works because the cross one is huge and too much money.

    What are your thoughts on painting the parts of the metal chassis? I want to weather the cab but for realisms sake...the chassis will also need some work. I just don’t want to degrade any mechanical components! When are you,planning your weathering?

    Going to buy one of these kits, quick question, could you run some 2.2xl tires, swampers or such like?

    • @antrc
      @antrc  3 роки тому

      I guess you could put any 2.2 tyres on as they would fit the rims. However, it really depends on the look you are going for. The stock tyres are massive, sounds weird but I don't just mean in height and width. They bulge, balloon like,. Give it a try and see how it looks. I would be intrigued to see the result. Cheers, T.

    I can see how to waterproof esc and receiver with waterproof boxes etc, but how do you waterproof the motor? What about the fan you installed? Thanks.

    • @antrc
      @antrc  3 роки тому

      Hi Barry, well the motor will be fine and in fact, I have had it half submerged and the blades in the motor were kicking water up into the air lol. The fan must have been partially submerged and was fine and is still working. However, this was a serious dunking and is unlikely to be repeated and not recommended. The motor and the fan are really high up on the truck so the most of the cab will be submerged before you get that deep.

    Hi again. I finished mine a couple of weeks ago. Building was a great experience. Here are two questions: My motor and/or gearbox seem to be rather loud, especially under heavy load and in first gear. Is this the way it is? The gearbox came pre assembled, I just opened it to check for grease.
    Did you convert to a brushless system? Is there a sensored brushless motor / esc you can recommend? I like castle, but the 540 crawler motors are probably too weak?

    • @antrc
      @antrc  3 роки тому +1

      Ahhhh the one that got away! Sorry mate. Tel's been slack answering his videos, apologies. So briefly as we have answered elsewhere as u know, yes it seems noisier under load. Gearbox was pre-assembled yes, the other cross trucks are brushless with the 8 being Revolver/SW4 combo and the 6 has an EXRUN Axe setup. The std brushed motor is strong and I reckon fine for the rig alone. But we often load the rig and trailers up so felt more power was in order. A

      @ScopsLog 3 роки тому

      AnT R/C hey, thanks for the reply. I was just kidding, I know you cannot answer every question right away, or at all. It’s not a job after all. :-) My stock brushed motor is fine, just with a loaded trailer and uphill or in deep sand it seems to struggle a bit in 2nd gear. I hate going into first because of the noise, but thanks to your answers I know it’s normal, not my gearbox falling apart. I don’t know if it’s the motor or the gearbox that’s doing the noise. The noise and the awesome wireless programmability of the monster x ESC made me think about going brushless, but as you mentioned it’s probably difficult to find a sensored brushless system that’s as strong and smooth as the stock motor with a 1080. Will do some more testing, and hope to start making some vids about it soon-ish. ;-)

    • @antrc
      @antrc  3 роки тому

      Ah the reason why the motor seems to struggle is that 2nd gear is really as i understand it for trundling long the flat to make up time etc. For slow heavy climbing stuff always keep it in first gear. The noise is fine. That is just how it is.
      I burnt out my TRX4 motor by climbing with a heavy load in 2nd gear. T.

    Great video, that thing truly is a Mammoth. Do you think a 15 to 17 cm talk action figure would fit inside the driver's cab ??

    • @antrc
      @antrc  3 роки тому +1

      Hi there, yes, it should fit. It is likely well very likely that you will have to modify the character. The seats are literally L shaped and most figures do not bend that way. So some cutting will be required. The figure I used was about 16cm, I had to remove half of his legs and then glue them back on. Glad you like the video and the truck. She is definitely worth the money. The engineering is great!

    Is this kit hard to put together for a beginner. I never even put together a model kit for decades.

    • @antrc
      @antrc  3 роки тому

      Hi Tom, mmmm good question. The instruction manuals of all of the cross kits are very good now. In that respect, if you take your time and go over the instructions carefully I don't think this is out of reach for a beginner.
      The only issue might be the painting really. Glueing parts is not too bad, I use Liquid Poly and found it quite easy.
      My first ever RC build was the Cross RC MC6. The only area I had was painting, I was a novice sprayer and for my first attempt it was ok. A mate of mine re sprayed it for me about 8 months later.
      However, it just takes practice. If you are daunted at all, maybe try a WPL C44 kit first, awesome little kit to start with, also to paint as well as it has a hard body.
      If you do go for a mammoth or any of the Cross Kits Andrew and I would happily give you some assistance and advice so just drop us a line.
      Cheers Terry.

    So in the United States the MC8 Is US$950 the mammoth is US$1500 in your opinion would you say it is worth the extra 550 bucks to get the Mammoth? Also does the MC eight run on to sell or three cell? I’m assuming this mammoth he would run it on three cell Lipo

    • @antrc
      @antrc  3 роки тому

      Hey man, well we run both rigs on 3s lipos around 3000 mah ratings as they fit in the battery boxes. 2s works but these are heavy rigs and climbing takes grunt.
      The question of value is harder and more personal to gauge. Tel's Mammoth is a newer design. The moulds are a little crisper, and the chassis is more capable with its independant suspension and smooth canoe like underside. And its 2.2s.
      But it doesn't have the configurability of my MC8 so u lose being able to switch up the loadouts and layouts. And some (cough) would say the MC8 is better looking..... The cab is bigger for more detailing too.
      In the end the Mammoth is more capable yet limited in other ways.
      Look at it this way. You could probably get an MC8c, a three axle matching trailer and KingKong CA10 to carry on the trailer for the price of a Mammoth. I know where my money would go.... A

    Hi guys I sent you an email with a photo. unfortunately the p806 trailer does not fit. The fifth wheel on the BC8 is too far forward☹️ shame because it’s one very solid piece of kit

      my 806 should be here next week. My hemtt will do most of the hauling of the 806, yet might also have the overland pull also. Hoping to tow the ural and my construction rigs with it..

    • @arcticnoodle655
      @arcticnoodle655 4 роки тому +1

      ThatsMyRc I also have the bc8 trailer. I would go as far as to say that the p806 trailer is actually the better trailer. It is pretty much all metal and incredibly heavy. The axles require a little modifying. But once you’ve done that it doesn’t have the wallowing the BC8 trailer has when reversing. It’s quite a bit shorter but still big enough to fit my mc8.and It it has better ground clearance

      @@arcticnoodle655 thats great thanks for the input. I would like to build a mammoth in near future. Thats a huge purchase kit. I wouldnt mind the logger trailer for the UC6 yet thats a bit much for a few axles lol..So I went with the 806 for my hg hemtt. It will be more purposeful and haul more than logs 8-)

      Hi. Did you get anywhere with finding a potential brushless set up for this?
      I have the Xerun AXE 540 1200kv in my 1/8 scale all metal Capo Jk and it performs reall well. It easily a 12kg model. Very low down grunt in that unit.
      I was wondering if the 550 AXE might fit in but the lowest KV in that range is 2700kv. Which may be a bit fast. I like slow and scale.

      HawkerFury not yet unfortunately. My truck with trailer and cargo is above 20kg, it’s already struggling a bit with the 560 brushed system. I was hoping for an input from AnT, as far as I know they converted their trucks to brushless. Maybe we need to spam their comments a bit more in order to get their attention. :-)

      RC 'n' stuff, ah ok. Well I got an answer this morning from another question I asked them so they deffo pay attention to their account. This was one of the few comments unanswered.

      Hey, my mammoth has the standard motor in it. I haven't found it wanting so far even towing a real heavy load.
      Andrew has a revolver Holmes hobbies in his mc8 which he loves. I have the xerun hobbywing in my mc6 which is lovely.
      For now I will leave the manmoth as it is because it seems to run fine. 👍
