Government contracting is way different. Most companies like Boeing, Lockheed, etc. each have their own way of finance with government contracts. It's called EVM - earned value management. And most companies like Boeing rarely hire anyone for finance roles without military & government contracting EVM experience. I know this because I interviewed with Boeing fairly recently.
