    Well Oliver from my perspective, a post nuclear holocaust type area would not have greenery of any kind but instead dried brownish grey miniature foliage and ideally the buildings would be blackened to a degree due to heat transfer . But maybe this is going overboard and you want to keep things relatively simple?

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  3 роки тому

      Hi, I was referring to the feel of the board, more so than the features. 😀 In reality, it has a really dusty desaturated look to it.. but i understand what you're saying. Thats why I covered all of the green up, the soil and grass didn't really fit the theme.

  • @davidwasilewski
    @davidwasilewski 3 роки тому +2

    Very nice. If it had been me, I’d have done patches and sections of snow/slush instead of the sand/grass as it would provide more contrast with all the grey. But it looks really good!

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  3 роки тому +1

      Hey! Yeah, I was VERY tempted to go the snow route, it was actually the initial plan. I'm pretty happy with the finish though, the sand looks good and it has a dusty and dry feel.
      I also wanted to keep it relatively neutral as it'll be used for battle reports, ao anything too strong makes them a little less usable. 😀

    The board looks great the only thing I would add is some bone white or khaki dry brushing to blend the grey in with the sand color

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  3 роки тому +1

      I was tempted to give it a very thinned down black wash, but it added too much contrast. The grey areas have some white, khaki and brown on, just through a rattle can. I could dry brush it, and may fiddle with it over time. 😀

    Nice, but I think you should have streatched the sand part a little more toward the inside of the board. I would have blended it together a little better as would have some rubbles in the sandy area. Do not misunderstand me, it is a great board, but it would have made it better and less monochrome. I love the "orchard" area, a very nice touch.

  • @simonknibbs5867
    @simonknibbs5867 3 роки тому

    The part that I struggle with is creating modular re-configurable terrain. This style does look better than typical scatter terrain, but it is static. I think the happy medium is to be able to change the upper-levels of the buildings in some way. Either way, this does look good and should have enough terrain for some games.
    One thing that I think would be worth considering for this build is where you see in some post-apocalyptic artwork the world reclaiming abandoned cities. You could add in a few places things like vines growing up the side of a few buildings. it will enable you to break up the grey colour in a few places as well.

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  3 роки тому +1

      It's always a toss up between replayability and looks isn't it. I will do a more agnostic style board at some point, with based terrain.
      I dont play many games and do enjoy the board builds, so thought bugger it, let's make it look like an old wasteland.
      Lots of details can be added on for flavour, like you say.😀

      Ah nice, where abouts are you? I'm a foreigner, but settling in nicely.
      As for stripping, I actually used to have a shot blast cabinet, but that's in the uk. I recently stripped some models using biostrip 20, it did a great job and is pretty easy to use. Highly recommend.
      If its a lot of models, check out re-new models on Facebook. 😀

    I’ve been hoarding these long strips of plastic that the components we order in work are packaged in because i thought they’d be perfect for making terrain with.
    Issue is i’ve never made terrain before. Got any tips for a first-timer looking to make some ruined buildings from scratch?

    • @snejjames6499
      @snejjames6499 3 роки тому +1

      The great thing about ruined buildings is how hard they are to mess up. They're meant to look destroyed and shabby, so just go with whatever you think looks good. You can always add or remove bits later, so don't worry about getting it wrong.

  • @sandtable8091
    @sandtable8091 3 роки тому

    How do you store terrain of that size? Boards are one thing but with attached buildings must make it extra tricky.

  • @UkkoKaarto
    @UkkoKaarto 3 роки тому +1

    Looks great! How are you playing the terrain in 9th? There seems to be enough to be obscuring ruins, but where does the area terrain start?
    I'm curious because 9th terrain ruleset seems to be very tournament friendly, but doesn't really work well with this kind of supercool custom terrain.

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  3 роки тому

      Yeah, the new rules are really good for tournaments, can't wait to play some!
      I've had a few games on this now and its working alright. Using the rubble as -2 movement while the building are breachable, -1 to hit if you're in them and +1 attack/+1 to hit with overwatch. Seems to be pretty fair so far, you just have to pick a mission where the objectives fit.. That's something I'll have to consider for the next one. 😃

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  3 роки тому

      I think these are "O" gauge. The tracks look good, but any of the people carrying carriages are definitely too small. I got away with a few of them because there is nothing to compate them against (doors, seats etc). 😀
