This movie broke my heart and hit very close to home. I didnt have CPS so when i ran away at 12 from the group home I ran to the streets. I never missed school because of the school lunch then after school i would pick a bus and get off at a random stop others kids were getting off. Until i picked one bus that landed me on 39th and Lucust in Milwaukee WI. There met my best friend and was able to eat at his house sometimes. When it was time to go in for all the kids in the neighborhood I would play like i was heading home and go to this abandoned garage in the ally ( I did this for about 5 months through the winter) until one day my friend wanted to walk me home ... So i went to a random house and said bye goodnight then walked to the back of the house and played like i was going in but he took to long to leave, after stalling about 15 minutes he finally did.. few days after that night while at his house his mother called me into the room... I was terrified, She said .... ***** I know whats going on, My heart pounding i turned to leave fast and she spoke up ****** stop come here i found your worker.... I cried out please no im fine ill just leave and go home im ok... She cut me off and asked me would i like to become their family .... I was saved by the love of a real mother
This movie triggered a lot for me. How people could be so cruel and hypocritical is beyond me. But the man onviously triumphed and now is helping others. One has to stand up for onself!
All this man Steve went thru as a boy..is bc GOD wanted him to help other boys that went thru.. what he went thru being in a foster home..Thats now being done by him & his wife Tonya..running the "A Chance in the World Foundation.".. GOD BLESSINGS be on him & his family..❤️What a beautiful movie❤️
I was so angry to the evil,double-faced foster parents.I thank God that Steve find the courage to fight for his life. This movie touched my heart so much that cried a lot, even if I'm done watching. No one deserves to suffer maltreatment, regardless of color, religion and social status.Let's fight for our/children's lives.😮😢
Beautiful movie!... I cried...People shouldn't take in foster kids for the money--they should do it to provide loving homes for these children who are in situations through no fault of their own. Thank God Steve Pemberton survived and is now helping others. God bless him and his family, and all foster children! Thanks for uploading.❤❤❤
My heart ached watching what this young boy went through for no fault of his own, just needing a loving home and people he could trust. I have always wanted to be a foster parent. I myself was in foster care for 9 months because of my mom's drinking which she eventually died from. I had a very loving foster mom who was more like a mom to me than my real mom and stayed a part of my life for many years.
During the day I listen to movies and work around the house when I started listening to this story I just couldn't listen to it I had to stop and watch this story so many times I caught myself tearing up what horrible people his foster family he had I pray all is good for this man now.
I started watching with my son and knew I should have watched alone first I just couldn't let him continue after that first scene with the paper she tore in half..n he's 11.. I'm continuing and am so mad..
Totally agree. He played the high's and lows very well along with showing the journey towards his success. From a sleeping in a cold cellar with no blanket to sleeping at John Sykes warm home a place made for him, with a pillow and warm blanket. God bless John
There are some cruel ppl it has been like this since beginning of time. Some ppl are born just to be cruel wicked. Some of these ppl can't sleep until they have done wicked cruel things. But there are also gd ppl . It really helps to know Jesus because it gives u hope that even though there are wicked cruel ppl there are also gd ppl. And there is a way that God can give u the tools to navigate through the hardest of times.
What a powerful Testimony! So encouraging and i pray that this movie can touch and help many abused children to take a bold step like Steve. His teacher John was very helpful and kind. God bless him and his parents!🙏🏼🙏🏼❤
That 's 100% Narcissism. To undermine his self-esteem and to break his selfconfidence is: to repeat these sentences until he believes it and feels himself insignificant and very little. Narcissist lie. To let him repeat, "his parents don't love him", is so tremendous cruel, it certainly breaks him inside! As well the lie about his father. 😢😢😢 Narcissists like to say, "Who do you think you are" and they never treat anyone to anything good. That's why the mother tore up the scholarship application to hurt the boy. They are masters of manipulation. They work with: Intimidation, scaremongering, fear, threats, gaslighting, shame and guilt. Why this woman had 39 foster children is inexplicable !!! In public they are the sweetest, nicest people, at home the atmost tyrants. They lie perfectly. When they are nice to you (like the mother in the hosptal), is just to be crueler and meaner to you later.
Why must people be so cruel? A child is a child cares not whom!! Grateful for people who care........... because hate in them rules , they plant weeds in their minds instead of flowers and live life from the window of fear instead of love
Very touching. I could not believe that these fake foster parents could be so heartless. I wanted to know if they were shutdown because of the acts they committed against their foster child but the movie didn't say, so I picked up the book from the library to see if there was more about them. So sad, I cried.
Sad day growing up in my own mothers house was so csarey sometimes I just knew what Steve was going thhough. He was courageous and smart. I was told to put down the book stop reading go to your bed. Today I am an author and thank God for his mercies to me. in my 60s now still fighting and ever learning I felt like I am not alone I can end the pain in my own family.
I can relate to this i was taken from parents to get education in the middle east, but was made to work as a maid and face many abuses from my faster mother. I was crying during The movie, because it brought back horrible memories. I did The same thing Steve did charge her, because I didn't want her children to go through what I went through. I forgive her and I hope God forgives her too.
This is such a sad beginning with a very happy ending. Thank God for the people that helped him at his lowest of times. I'm glad he found his family and they welcomed him with open arms. God Is So Great!
This movie was really good. I'm glad Steve was able to get freedom. I still can't imagine that there are actually people out there going through this. May God be with them 😭😔💖
I watch a lot of movies on u tube but because this was a child telling the story it really hit home. Hope the foster mum was removed from looking after children going forward, How many lives did she destroy. Steve you had God with you every step of the way and you finally found the courage to get out of that foster home. You totally turned your live around and the pain inflicted was finally stopped with you. A remarkable story. Thank you
This movie made me cry because I experienced some physical and psychological abuse too. No matter how much deep inner work you do, there is a part of you that never fully recovers. Without God, I wouldn't even be here. It made me so happy to see what this young man grew up to be. Once he decided he would no longer tolerate the abusive foster family, he became his own advocate and his whole life changed for the better. NO ONE deserves to be mistreated! That teacher was an Angel in human form.
Ooooooooooh Mercyful God!!😭 Cruel can people be!! That woman's children were useless yet,she belittled that clever child!! There's a Just GOD 🙏 thank you so much for bringing us such emotional but beautiful end😢😅👍♥️
😢its painful, my sister past away she left 2 kids.i know its hard but I make sure i keep them safe and happy im their mum too and i know i will never replace their mum.
What an incredible movie,I'm so touched at the little boy, going threw all the suffering nd still trying to be strong, this movie brought me to tears to think of how cruel people can be to sn innocent kid,❤❤❤
Wowwwww this movie bought tears to my eyes, how can some people be so cruel to children especially when you are to help these foster kid's, Lord have Mercy.
This reminds me of my story. My parents divorced when I was below ten years. Then my dad died when I was 12. Extended family saw me as a financial burden. So I had to live with a family friend, his children and wife didn't accept me. I went through alot
The tears that are pouring down my face are from my true testimony so similar to this heart warming video... Though my own story is stranger than fiction itself. The Boy in this story is a true actor and hero. I am 61 today and it seems like the most remembered times of my life are of the most imaginary moments of my childhood.😪
This movie made me cry. I remember in my childhood life my own mother uses to beat me very badly and even hit my head in the wall..I'm 43 years and up to now try to i can get it out of my mind... And sometimes i ask my self why was she doing that to me. But she pass out with i was 17 years old. 😢
Beautiful movie. Goes to show there is always hope and a light that shines through darkness. Be strong. Be brave and be courageous. The Lord will always be with you wherever you go.
This is a horrible mistreatment of a child. I cried just knowing that people who are supposed to love and care for these children abuse them. They should be put under the prison.
Beautiful ending. Uplifting story. Just when you think you have been through something, and find out about what a child had to endure, it makes your problems seem so small.
This touched my heart and has just reminded me once again I don't need to bring a life if I'm not going to give him/her a family that I needed, you may say you hard people but you never understand what someone went through each experience is different.... May God come through for these kids out there.
This made me cry as I went through a similar experience? I'm glad to know through everything that he had experienced made it through, even though things were against him TMH protected him and carried him through, shame on those foster parents, all they wanted was the money..but he was right she will answer to TMH.
Such a sad movie,I relate,as I was a foster child,adopted now,into a lovely family,I miss every day,😢 But the ending,was beautiful as he now has a beautiful family,and stood up to them,in turn,standing up for others,a powerful,sad,but real story,I know as lived it,the end result is what's important here,what a beautiful boy,well acted,and now a man,with a loving family if his own,thank you for this movie,I'm sure,many can relate,this sort of thing still goes on,with some foster families in it,for money,not love,and that's heartbreaking....😢so sad,I pray for anyone who's endured this,or going through it,your not alone,God bless you all 🙏🙌💜🕊️
All he did is asked for the keys to take the garbage out and the stupid woman forgot about his bruises and gave the keys. At that point I thought this is perfect. 🦶Run Steve!, Run, Run, Run!🦶🦶👏🤘👌😜
I watched this movie once and cried like a baby. It was one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. I'm glad he became successful, but I can't bring myself to watch it again. I'm glad I had good parents.
This movie tore me up. Just crying saying when is this quiet and brilliant child, going to get a break. I would've been proud to have a son like this. It seems now more and more bad people get good kids then corrupt or kill them, or continue the cycle. Broken children becoming broken parents.
It's a true story about how the author Steve Pemberton overcame so many things in his life and he became very successful! He wrote a few books and has a successful career! Search author Steve Pemberton ❤
W😲W!!! This was the best movie I’ve watched this year. It was a real tearjerker, but good. Lil Steve played his role to a T. There should be many more caring people in this world like John & his family. Why did that awful foster mom have to share my name 😢 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I pray that a foster home for these children are one's that gives them the love they lost when they were abandoned by their parents because of circumstances in lives.
LOVE THIS TYPES OF MOVIES AS THEY ARE HEART BREAKING TO WATCH, BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS GOOD PEOPLE WHO CARE AND YOU CAN TURN TOO FOR HELP, LOVE AND KINDNESS.
Resembles my childhood being fostered by my maternal grandparents who were down to earth and lovely people. Though my father being a businessman,I never got a glimpse nor talk to him whilst still being alive when my biological mum never wanted me to get in touch with him denying my childhood too of monstrous neglecting me of any thing whatsoever. My 💔 can't be mended as just like what Steve endured with his fostered parents. It such a great story of Steve not with a good start to life but a favorable ending he accomplished with this "A Chance In Life Foundation". (Reuben watching from Papua New Guinea.)
This is a touching story. I shed a tear throughout the movie; hopefully I can finish watching it because those foster parents are raising my blood pressure 😡.
So I watched this movie before, however it caught my 👁 again. It pulled at every string on my heart💔 as the first time 😢 I'm not sure if there is word to describe how cruel & ugly people's hearts are 💔 I pray 🙏 for healing to anyone who has had to endure such scares 🙏 ❤
How evil is this women, her abusive behavior toward's a ward of the state is shocking...Abusing a child is not right...every one who foster children should be visited weekly to determine whether the child or children are provided for, safe and protected.
What an amazing true story, so glad you got out of that family..very good acting ,i wanted to jump through the phone and save you from them....Heavenly Father saved you...😊🙏🏾
Wow wow based on wat i have seen this 11/10 movie it moved me from my comfort zone to a cave because of fear oppression of human by humankind very touching great storyline good educational thesis
While I never experienced CPS or foster care. I honestly didn’t even know what CPS was until I met my now husband at the age of 22. He had gone foster care. I felt enraged how messed up the system really is. These children deserve nothing but love.
@@Simonlazarus-n3u True. He was waking up. In a disaster some people will risk their lives to save others, even strangers that they do not know. Some people will even die to save a stranger. Others will only save themselves without looking back. Some people grow up in that environment and they learn to be cruel and to hate for no reason, others have great empathy. Growing up in that environment and seeing the system fail over and over some lose hope and do not believe that it is possible for hope and change.
This was a truly heartfelt story. As I sit here with my elderly friend of 90years old and both do not have children. I popped the one question that still puzzles me today. Why the stars never aligned for either of us to have children. We are not a couple. Just friends. I just happen to be in the picture in her old years as possibly one of the "guardian angle".
My gosh one of the saddest hurtful movies I've watched , I can hardly watch it my gosh that lady is a devil ..... I was able to watch that movie by skipping .....💔💔💔💔
I was in foster care in Hastings nz, trust me the carers were definitely in it for the money, my grandparents on both sides passed years before I was born.

How can you treat somebody's kid like that yet you also have children,,, what if you also pass away and they treat yours like that 😢
What go’s around comes around, and when it does it really ‘bits’ 🙊
Omgggggggggg😢 this movie touched my soul...i loved the happy ending❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ we need more of theses kind of movies in 2024!
This movie had me emotional and i also realized that we have to let the past go in order to have a better life even though we wish to belong😢❤
This movie is beyond words that one can never, never forget...,
Look at my Nephew Terrell uncle proud
He is a very talented actor! I absolutely loved this movie, he was brilliant for this role!!❤❤
It's a touching movie
A very moving movie and rollercoaster emotional ride for me.

What a good movie thanks for it
Excellent movie
Thank you a lot!❤🕊
This movie really brings tears to my eyes . lovely wow
This movie was very good.
What an amazing movie… this movie was so well put together, So sad… 😞
I cry and cry I can’t believe how people can be so cruel
Awesome movie thanks 🙏😎👍🎥🍿💯
What a ending thank you for sharing this. I was so scared to watch it. Those foster parents were evil.
This was a cruel and nasty family. Why didnt the oldest brother report the abuse he knew was going on?
If you grow up in that environment and have been brainwashed it is all you know. If the system has failed you again and again you lose hope.
@@clearwater630 oldest brother wanted to get away from them though. He wasn't that brainwashed!
Good question ...

This movie brought tears to me of my past and present life 😢😢😢😢
Some not all foster parents are in for the money. Here in New Zealand there are alot grandparents look after there own grandchildren.
I was in foster care in Hastings nz, trust me the carers were definitely in it for the money, my grandparents on both sides passed years before I was born.
That foster mother was a heartless and wicked witch the movie 🎥 was touching and sad 😭😭😭😭😭
