    I've been going through your videos and you are a lot more patient and very descriptive in teaching these techniques. If I got hooked up with some like you earlier I'd be in a lot better shape. But, for now I'll practice with these. Thanks, Sifu.

      It's not because everyone is a master, it's because Jake claims to be a master when he is a talented amateur. His "skills" often are basic curriculum practiced at an average speed with no special results. He has passion, but not experience, and it shows. If this were a "my fun times with chain whip" video there would be far fewer comments to the contrary.

    Hey whats up Jake? Handling chains and hooks in the steel yards you pick up a few tricks… Try using a heavy chain and hook sometime (20lbs or better). It can be a bit scary at first, but I find it has better control than smaller chains, does lots more damage, locks instantly when wrapping around object and just looks cool as hell when you're swinging them or wrapped around your body.

    Bought one of these when i was a teenager (back in the days before you tube) i had no idea it's history, and thought it more of an oddity from the local knife shop. I took it home, spun it around a bit, taught myself to split coconuts on demand and put the thing in a closet when i graduated. 12 years later i stumbled on these videos, and in 3 weeks I've learned arm, leg, and neck changes. I can't thank you enough for these awesome new skills. You've breathed new life into an old friend. While it is unlikely to for me to make it to Tempe, i can only hope i do you proud, when i join our local kung fu center in the spring (unfortunately i have other loose ends to tie up first, or I'd not wait that long). Thank you again for all your great instruction, not only in steel whip, but all across my kung fu world(for lack of better phrasing). Keep doing what your doing. Keep sharing what you learn. And above all, if it stops being fun, then it's time to move on.

    Great video. Nicely explained and broken down in the demostration . Also doing the steps slow enough for everyone to see and understand what and how you are doing it.
    The part where you were explaining it as if holding a staff. It reminded me a lot when I first started doing the 3-sectional-staff, and the miniature 3-sectiinal-staff. I also had one made out of foam to help me not worry about koncking myself on the head and other body parts.
    Now I am already wondering if a person learns how to do the whip chain, do they also learn how to also defend against one? And, also how that would be done with different weapons as well as empty hands?

    I assume these techniques, we'll some of them, could be used with a section Bo staff? May not be the right term but a bow staff cut in three pieces connected by eye hooks or chain.

    • @OlOleander
      @OlOleander 9 років тому

      +Mark Walter Usually referred to as the three-section-staff. Bo is the Japanese term for a six-shaku solid length of wood. As to your question, yes - they're slightly different because of the differences in weight and because the chain-whip isn't solid. =D

  • @blooddrawer
    @blooddrawer Рік тому

    i made a drawing of a mace that is meant to eb used like a whip and ngl this perfectly suits it legit this perfectly suits the mace though i made a different feature where the handle slides down and clips bakc on so the person has a good grip and having a spike one end like whish is the dart while there is a metal ball on the other end that is like the balls use in the practice whips but 2 times the size which can be used like the handle the spike and chains are made of a heavier metal than the ball to balance out the wight more though when being used form one end either the spike or ball depending on which you prefer will be on the bottom of the handle and this in my opinion solves a problem i see with many whip like weapons once the person gets close you can't use the whip with out hurting yourself or if your master and are not able to react in time the person get a clean strike but if you have another weapon on the end of the handle you can use like a knife or pan if you are using the ball to hit the person instead you can get the advantage move way and the continue to use the whip while your opponent recovers

    Oke can I give one more golden tip for doing the nummer 4 spin. You only need 4 fingers two on each hand then. To do the nummer 4 spin while holding it knuckels up first bring one hand close to the other arms elbow but don't let it though your ellebow. Now carry it over to the other side in such a matter that the part of the weapon that was pointing up now points down. Spin it around sow your holding it the same way you did on the other side but mirrored. Now carry it over the same way and return to start position and repeat the movement. Every time you do it try to add more power and soon enough you be able to do it. Hold the whip or any other weapon with your index and tumb only that way it can flow freely and it will be as liquid as it can be instead of just being several clunky sections. Also don't do the movement from your arms but try to let your full body flow with the weapon giving it power at every point in the spin that's the only way to reach the weapons full potionsel. Trust me at somepoint your spin will have sow much power that it litterly knock things over without thoughing them.
