    What a great video, especially seeing that hole being punched with such accuracy! 😃 John, you did some terrific tooling there, though I'm sorry for being late to this video, but was working. Have a super weekend and all the very best from Wendi 🌻

    Great video! Just yesterday I was out working in my shop and thinking about making a hardy tool, and I was wondering if anyone ever used square tubing, which seems like it would be both lighter and cheaper. Question answered!

    Thats some tough steel! Those first hits with the press and power hammer didn’t look like they did much! How long did it take to get it flattened out?

    • @BlackBearForgeII
      @BlackBearForgeII  Рік тому +3

      1/2 hour or so under the power hammer

      my guess is it's a blend of chromium, silicon, manganese and some vanadium in there

    Do you need to worry about oil shooting out the end of the tube like water does during quenching?

      I would. Just make sure it isn't pointed in your direction

    John. I appreciate all your knowledge and your teachings. You have inspired me to push myself farther into blacksmithing and in the process of my second show as a blacksmith and having great results. My your daughter by my side enjoying it as well. is truly amazing and priceless. And I would love to own something you have made and want to know how much you would charge for a hammer eye drift and a mouse axe eye drift.

    Wow, that was tough steel! I cringed when your press wouldn't really move it.

  • @TalRohan
    @TalRohan Рік тому +2

    Ooh I would not want to move that stuff by hand.....I tried to make some tongs out of what turned out to be mystery steel, it sparked like mild steel but a 7pound hammer and actually hitting it wouldnt make it move much...awful stuff, they went in my "do it much later or make something else bucket"

      This happened to me a couple of days ago. Started forging, and realized this damn piece of steel resists my blows. So after a couple of heats, I switched to another and that went way better. I guess that is the price to pay when dealing with mystery steel.

    That's gonna be handy for me since I do not have a pritchel hole in my anvil.
