When I was on set for "Disney Channel Games" in 2008 they all had to be quiet the whole time they were filming. It is crazy how people can shush, and I always appreciate that cause it shows respect.
True but I've read somewhere that on some occasions in the past Benedict has had to actually (kindly) ask the crowd to quiet down because they were disturbing the shooting. So it's not always this perfect, But if you think about it it's logical that they'd be quiet. They know that if they're interfering with the shooting they'll just be sent away and everybody wants to stay 100%!
The two most agrivating things about this: 1) Was filmed on my birthday 2)I walked pass the mob and just laughed. I wasn't a sherlock fan then. regret regret regret
Well they probably would've been told to clear off if they were disruptive. Also, they do want their favourite show to actually be filmed at some stage :P
Oana Anita Bunea they need as much realism as possible to make the show not seem like some stupid tv romcom or something else recorded in a studio area. I just wish many people in this world would understand the importance of getting stuff done and noticing the minds of others even if you can read them. You can, however, imagine how they feel.
It's so awesome how polite Cumberbatch is to his fans. He could been quite rude but he wasn't. Just as easily as the production team could have asked everyone to leave but they were allowed to stay. :)
Here's an idea. If anyone ever has the chance to hand over a notebook to Cumberbatch for a autograph, write an encouraging message on the notebook before handing it over to him, so that he would read it and receive your personal message of support. I think that's one small direct way of supporting your favorite actor who has been on the set for a long time, trying to meet a tight schedule, and then having to rush to his next appointment somewhere else.
I have to say, I'm very impressed with those extras. I wouldn't be able to walk casually past the actors while filming, I'd be to busy going, "oh my God, CELEBRITIES!!!11!!"
I think you stop being star struck after the 0th or 11th take. :) My experience was different than the persons above me. I did stand in work for a movie Sharon Stone did called "The Last Dance" and while we could not take photo of the set, we all hung out together and chatted away the dead time. I don't think the extra's ha as much freedom to hang out with her though, I don't remember. But all in all, they are just people doing their jobs.
I like Ben and find that he's unfailingly charming and polite. But Martin ... I mean, come on -- he's not just an insanely talented actor, he's also absolutely gorgeous! Especially when he laughs. What a gorgeous, gorgeous man.

pikachupandastar i guess thats how they became who they are, very good actors, and used to all that brobably...i cant imagine that either, trying to act while many people are watching
Live theatre experience really helps with that! When I started drama school, one of the first things we learnt was to 'act ourselves' in front of an audience. Once you get over the self-consciousness you can just sort of block everyone out (the fourth wall) ^-^
I think what cracks me up is that you guys said Lazurus to Mark as a reference to Doctor Who, And then he ended up using it as the code word for the fall in The Empty Hearse. So Mark goes like "on the nose" as a response lol
Behind the scenes shows me how excruciatingly boring is most of the time actors are working. I'm glad there are people willing to do the same things a hundred times until the camera get's it right.
It depends on what you're filming and where. If it's in an indoor set, the environment is more relaxed because they have minimal interruptions and more time. When it's outdoors in areas heavily populated by random civilians, the pressure must be absolutely immense as shown in this clip. It's all very impressive though.
This looks incredible! I was getting excited just watching it at home so I can't imagine what it was like to be there! My favorite parts: Benedict's horrified look when people said they were there since 5 am Martin's sassy af expression when people were applauding him when he was simply walking down the street at 8:48 XD
im literally fangirling so hard right now. MARTIN FREEMAN IS THE CUTEST HUMAN BEING EVER, WHEN HE MADE THAT FACE AT BEN WHEN BEN WAS IN THE TAXI I CANT
The fact that they rehearse in front of such a huge crowd is really impressive to me. I know that they're professionals and they have lots of people watching them while they work no matter what (the crew, directors etc) but having so many fans screaming while taking pictures and videos of you is really different and it seems so difficult to me. And as much as I would love to have a chance to see one of their rehearsals and be that close to the set, I think I would just go, catch a glimpse of them and then leave and let them work in peace. I'm a teenager, I like acting and I do it as a hobby. And there's nothing more infuriating than trying to rehearse and have people talking around you.
Ok after seeing this I have to compliment the whole cast even more for their outstanding performances. Can't these people show a little bit more respect for something (or somebody, apparently) they like..?
I totally agree. As much as we love to see Ben C. and Martin in person, it looks like fans took over the stage. Don't you guys want to see the next episode? And what with all those cell phones? Don't you guys have respect for the actors you do supposedly admire? I wish they could block part of the street...let the actors concentrate...
The fans had a lot of respect and look the filming got done. They were quiet when they were told to be quiet and that's why they were aloud to stay unlike some other fans with different fandoms. So please look into things before you jump to conclusions ^^
After seeing this video, I better not EVER hear another crew in Vancouver whine to me about how hard they have it when theres 2-5 of us at a set EVER again. The #Sherlock crew worked with 100s watching, locals here have it absurdly easy compared to this.
I understand being a fan. I understand appreciating an actor's work. I understand finding an actor sexy. But I wish people would realize that these actors are working. Don't they think they could be distracting? Where is the self-awareness to know that a person having a throng of people screaming at him must be even a little off putting? I think it's so unfair the way that folks think they have ownership of actors, instead of givint them the sapce to create the work that they so enjoy as fans. I'm a HUGE Benedict fan but I would never impose on someone's work space like this throng of fans does.
Martin. Martin you slick god you. Rocking up in those sunglasses ugh xD I love how they both just ran away and hid in 221b That would be kinda intimidating to act with all those fans around! It would kinda be just like a live performance! It's easy to forget when you're watching the show that there's like hundreds of fans just on the other side of the street!
I know how you feel. When Benedict and Martin were both here in Berlin for the première of The Hobbit I was at _home_... doing _nothing_! Because I didn't know! I swear I will never get over this!
XD Same!! Or I will only get over this like.. 5 years later, or if I will have enough luck to see them in the future! Anyways, I know how you feel, haha.
Alice Kamiya Yeah I think for me pretty much the only way to get over it is to actually see them some other time. :/ Until then this frustration will be burning me up from inside! Guess I should sign up for some of their fan-sites' newsletters or something that'll inform about every visit and event they're doing outside of the UK.
Karrie Dreammind No, if they're doing something in UK, book a ticket, ship yourself to them! XD (cause, it's quite cheap ...) But I'm super frustrated because.. I mean, hell, I went all the way from Paris to have my holidays, I just a station away and I didn't know! *bang head against the door *
Alice Kamiya Yeah, I totally understand your frustration too! Well if it makes you feel any better I actually went to London in February last year but I only discovered Sherlock _a couple of months later_ therefore I didn't go see the Sherlock Holmes museum / 221B Baker Street, because I still didn't know about it! ;_: A life full of missed opportunities. But you're right. If we want to experience things we've got to go to them and not wait for them to come to us! Hotels aren't cheap in London but I could go to a hostel instead. Or use couchsurfing.
I would've killed my classmates for making noise and talking and distracting me during my class presentation hahaha but seeing these actors overcome all those things, the level of confidence, patience and concentration just wow
I think since they were filming on a public street, they couldn't really do anything but cordon off the fans when they needed to film. I was there, and let me tell you it was amazing to watch them act and completely block us out when they were doing so. It was incredible!
EconGeekProductions There's nothing wrong with that. If he is enough of a fan to travel to the set, he's probably enough of a fan to speak like Sherlock. I know I do that sometimes.
You realise I am his brother (this is my other channel)? I was at the set too, filming most of this video. In fact, going there was my idea. And that's not the real reason he said "to-night"; I was joking.
That was really awesome! You actually edited your recordings and you edited them in a wonderful and very entertaining way! You were also obviously a couple of people (or just two) and you got different angles on the same shots, that was really awesome too. You had a lot of really good shots, especially good close-ups of Ben and Martin. Good job! Thanks for sharing!
it just goes to show what great actors they are if they can concentrate with all the screaming fans.. I am defenently a sherlockian but I would opt for them to have better takes without the noise instead of getting to see them in person
Sherlock is much cuter as a bromance, guys don't really show their feelings which makes it all adorable and awkward. No need for a weird love story between the two.
While I never liked the word "bromance" either (why do you even need the word "romance" in there?), I completely agree that the "shipping" is terrible. Burn all the fan-fic!
I have watched the episodes quite a few times, it's called friendship. John and Sherlock have a really strong connection, not some silly romance (no offense to johnlock shippers) I would die inside if I thought my best friend killed himself, I'm sure anyone would. They love each other, but as friends, they've been through a lot together.
"Guys don't really show their feelings which makes it all adorable and awkward"... Huh? How does that even make sense... And why would a love story be "weird"? If John was a Jane instead I bet you'd support a romance then... you undercover homophobes really irk me ^.^
KeiyaValecourt i'm not homophobic i have many gay friends but i think Sherlock and Watson shouldn't be together. They should be best friends only. this would be more realistic to me but this doesn't mean that i'm homophobic!
Oh wow, this takes me back when a few fans and I was there. A fantastic day! Absolutely brilliant and unforgettable. I think we saw you walking down too!
Read the comments before watching the video and a few people saying they were in London but not Sherlock fans at the time and missed this. I thought I couldn't be so unlucky as the only time I have been in London since 2007 was 20-26 August 2013. So I play the video....on 21 August 2013.....FML. are you serious? 😭😭😭😭 I wasn't even very far away. I only became a Sherlock fan last month and it's not like I came across the mob of fans or would have gone even if I had heard but it is gutting to know I was in London on this day. The one week I was there in more than a decade (I am from New Zealand)
Re: the written questions at the end. I love how aware and informed he is of the world and what's going on. He's so engaged and just really smart. And hey, thanks for the video :D
Flippin' loved this. Thanks a bunch. I think I might just travel all the way from Canada to England just to see em', they look like such fun people to hang out with. x
Awesome to see them smiling and laughing together when they aren't shooting. They're so cute!! lol And man, I can't imagine rehearsing and shooting with all those people watching like that!! That's just crazy. But if I had been in London, I would've gone to see them too. ;) I wish I could hear every word Ben (and Martin) said in this video...
Thanks for sharing. Tonight we'll see the real episode... Daunting as it is... Loved the actors reactions to the crowd. Indeed tough working like that, I imagine.
Christian Schleicher There is an episode of Doctor Who and the "villan" of that episode is called Lazarus - the guy from 9:48 - and Mark played him. (I think it's 03x06)
One thing I don’t understand is that people say this two dont have a good friendship but they look quite happy with each other so i dont see what the problem is
Thank you for getting two lines out of an hour and a half episode. No really though, cheers for going - I love the applause Martin gets for walking down a street xD
"5 O'clock? Why?" Well....Benedict, possibly because you guys blessed the world for having this show run, you're all fricking amazing, your show the love of my life, and Sherlock is...everything. Or just because they wanted to be in front of everyone(:
Ohhhhmg!! U guys r soooo lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I ws born in London!!!!!! N wt ws Benedict showing in those sheets...? N was it ur house cause I saw one Muslim uncle entering the house....
Such a good program, it's a shame it had to end, well hopefully there will be another series sometime, because if you have watched the his last vow episode, well I'm not gonna do spoilers but mum 'Did you miss me?'
Initially we were both behind the barricade 'cause we thought anyone on the other side would eventually be asked to leave, but there was a good spot outside that white shop near where Steven and Mark were standing...I decided to stay where I was in case it didn't work but my brother went and managed to stay for a while; as long as he stayed inside the shop the Location Assistants were fine with it. ~ Ali
I'm impressed with how the crowd quiets down during shooting. No screaming or anything.
When I was on set for "Disney Channel Games" in 2008 they all had to be quiet the whole time they were filming. It is crazy how people can shush, and I always appreciate that cause it shows respect.

Yep. Cuz they know that would work for sure! :)
It's not really impressive for them to act like normal human beings TBH.
mrwho995 Come on, you knew that fans get excited when they see their favourite actor live!
Aw bless. Benedict is still so polite even when telling people to be quiet.
I know, he's such a sweetheat!
*sweet heart. Is what i meant. Embarressing.

Yassss, and I'm sure Martin would tell them to fuck off

Seriously bless them for being able to stay so in character despite the huge crowds. I'd be so shy haha
i guess they’re used to it since they started in theatre?
Same , i suddenly imagined myself in this situation and stressed
yeah, and if i was infront of that many girls i would be uncomfortable.
I would have a hard time concentrating and would have a hard time to stay in character
Very good to see our fanbase being quiet while they were filming the scenes :)
Well they probably would've been told to clear off if they were disruptive. Also, they do want their favourite show to actually be filmed at some stage :P
Oh dear in what conditions these actors need to work and concentrate! At least in the theater it's dark and quiet.
Oana Anita Bunea they need as much realism as possible to make the show not seem like some stupid tv romcom or something else recorded in a studio area.

Re: the written questions at the end. I love how aware and informed he is of the world and what's going on. He's so engaged and just really smart.
And hey, thanks for the video :D
Just in case that some of you don't know, Martin Freeman is married to his real wife in Sherlock Holmes.
+Tabitha C. Actually, they're not married. They are partners, though.
TheSiddiquiBros They were married
Wiki Midas no they were always in a relationship and didn't want to get married that's why the papers said they separated not divorced
Flippin' loved this. Thanks a bunch. I think I might just travel all the way from Canada to England just to see em', they look like such fun people to hang out with. x
I'm enjoying the background music....and haha the fangirls awwing when Martin and Benedict were talking to each other
Fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing this. It's wonderfully done with the music, and the subtitles and commentary. Brilliant!
I'm amazing that they let the fans stay and watch their rehearsal! So damn lucky
The Lazarus part cracked me up xD
Awesome to see them smiling and laughing together when they aren't shooting. They're so cute!! lol And man, I can't imagine rehearsing and shooting with all those people watching like that!! That's just crazy. But if I had been in London, I would've gone to see them too. ;) I wish I could hear every word Ben (and Martin) said in this video...
Thanks for sharing. Tonight we'll see the real episode... Daunting as it is... Loved the actors reactions to the crowd. Indeed tough working like that, I imagine.
OMG after 3 years I notice that Mark is Lazarus... -.- Please kill me
Explain please it to me
Christian Schleicher There is an episode of Doctor Who and the "villan" of that episode is called Lazarus - the guy from 9:48 - and Mark played him. (I think it's 03x06)
OMG baby cumberbatch is gonna be a very envied child
Hard to focus under such distraction. Acting is a hard job
1:20 Sherlock BBC meets metal, nice.
getting super emotional watching this. so excited for january
Oh my god..just see cumberbatch and I get a fangirl- attack ♥.♥
7:50 OMG ALL THE SQUEALING THAT'S DEFINITELY SHIPPERS!
And this we see how Martin freeman is a boss actor. Notice the ticks and tremors in his hand? Beautiful!
Can't believe im still screaming even if this is already 7 years ago
When the music changed when Ben came on set i was squealing with excitement like i was there or something lol.
accurate description of me
"Lazarus is a go"
Omg :D
One thing I don’t understand is that people say this two dont have a good friendship but they look quite happy with each other so i dont see what the problem is
Beautiful!...the team is great!, good job guys!
Thank you for getting two lines out of an hour and a half episode. No really though, cheers for going - I love the applause Martin gets for walking down a street xD
It seems like it's so difficult to film amd act without getting all these people in the way or hearing them in the show.
"5 O'clock? Why?" Well....Benedict, possibly because you guys blessed the world for having this show run, you're all fricking amazing, your show the love of my life, and Sherlock is...everything.
Or just because they wanted to be in front of everyone(:
Lazarus! XD I actually really like the episodes Mark wrote. They're so full of adrenaline. X3
it's nice to watch a show we love and discover the work happens before
I love it
I cant stop smiling omg🥺
Benedict is so nice to the fans! I keep meeting celebrities in my local ice rink! Wonder if I'll meet Benedict... I missed tom Daley the other day!
This is ridiculous and brilliant all at the same time.
I love that they're both in the marvel universe now
they’re in so many fandoms together:
1. Sherlock
2. Lord of the rings/ The Hobbit
3. The MCU
😂😂✋🏻
Ohhhhmg!! U guys r soooo lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I ws born in London!!!!!!
N wt ws Benedict showing in those sheets...?
N was it ur house cause I saw one Muslim uncle entering the house....
+Anushri Shukla Haha, no that's not our residence...and we're not Bengali XD
It's so cool that people go to watch that. Looks so cool
9:46 makin' ma way downtown, walkin' fast, faces pass and I'm Satan.
Such a good program, it's a shame it had to end, well hopefully there will be another series sometime, because if you have watched the his last vow episode, well I'm not gonna do spoilers but mum 'Did you miss me?'
he's so nice staying and interacting with the fans like that T___T
Initially we were both behind the barricade 'cause we thought anyone on the other side would eventually be asked to leave, but there was a good spot outside that white shop near where Steven and Mark were standing...I decided to stay where I was in case it didn't work but my brother went and managed to stay for a while; as long as he stayed inside the shop the Location Assistants were fine with it. ~ Ali
I was just listening to Sylvain Dumont's guitar cover when it popped out here. Wowzers.
