Oh god. I was watching this for a little bit, and then I started to read the comments below and ... I hadn't heard about Joey. The greatest B3 player of our time, 2nd only to Jimmy. Tremendous loss, one of the great masters is gone. I was the keyboardist at the famous Jilly's on Rush Street (Chi) for 12 years. One night, Joey came in and sat right in front of me. The gig called for me to use a drum machine -- ugh -- so what happen next was Joey started jamming with me by playing the drum machine manually with both hands. I couldn't believe what was happening! We laughed and jammed for at least 20 minutes and of course, it sounded like I had Jack DeJohnette behind me, that's how good he was on that damn drum machine. The club was packed but nobody realized what was happening, the idiots didn't even know who he was. Unforgettable moment for me
@@jimjudygardner2916 I don't know how I could be more complementary. Having a bad day, are we? Try to relax, Joey D would be the first to tell you Jimmy is number 1. Yes, Joey took it to new levels. Yes, Joey is more advanced harmonically, can do more things. I get it. But Jimmy established the ground on which Joey walked. No Jimmy, no Joey. It's how musicians work, they build on the legacy of the previous. I don't know how you don't know that, and you're kind of being a jerk. I'm here to honor Joey D, not fight with some angry guy. Show some respect
@@jamiepastman5594 Jerk? Not hardly. Angry? Not hardly. Just different perspective. Appreciate your feedback. Lucky man to have been in the position you describe.
I met Joey several times. Sat next to him and listened and watched him play. I will always remember those moments. Just in shock to hear this tremendous loss to the organ and music world.
Joey's blend of jazz, blues, and soul made me an instant and forever fan. I am very, very sorry to hear of his passing. He was a hero and champion who carried the torch of real music and musicianship.
I have been a jazz fan for many, many years, and I never heard of Joey, sad but true. What a tremendous loss this is for everyone. So talented. I know he is making beautiful sounds in heaven.
Same here. As a huge fan of the bluesy and funky sound in bebop and hardbop, it's a shame to have missed out on an incredible player during his lifetime. Especially one who died young enough to still have more music to play for the world.
The jazz industry has never been happy with Hammond organ. Smith, McGriff, McDuff, Groove Holmes managed to get promo, but Johnny "Hammond" Smith, Winston Walls, Ed Birdsong, the list goes on. Some great talent. Ask Pete Fallico, the promoter of promoters for all thing B3.
maybe joey is physically gone but his inspiring music will be listened to and enjoyed for many generations to come. the world is a better place because of his lasting contribution to our hearts and souls.
Joey was one of a kind, I don’t think there’s anyone alive that plays the B3 with that kind of mastery. And what a kind soul not to chew out that piano player for stepping on his toes, lol!
How gorgeous! Thank you for posting this.... one of the nicest clips I've seen!🕊🌸🌿 may he still be playing in heaven

We won't see this kind of talent again. He is in heaven and will always be remembered in a very strong positive energetic way!
Joey was such an amazing bass players...my god....his left hand was just completely independent.
Joey was and is state of the art - and is probably still playing to his fans in Heaven.
A blessing to all.

BTW, a solid 'B' for the Hammond clone...

He had no reason to. Joey hit em with the class.
I saw Joey at South Jazz in North Philly just last year. He was outstanding!! And he rocked the tenor sax too!
I was very lucky to experience him live. MHSRIP

...amen. Rest in paradise Mr D. Well done...well done.
A true jam, where everyone is just having fun, with 0 ego involved. Joey was a grand old man at this point already, musically speaking.
A brief life, but what trail blazed!
Great Music Joey DeFrancesco, R.I.P.
The last time I saw Joey perform was in Baltimore on Halloween 2021.
Now he's like Bill Evans and Coltrane: bursting with talent, played with miles, and before they even got old they're gone...
Alive or in the astral heavens... Joey is the BOSS!!!
TENOR MADNESS👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great Musician Joey ...
Missing you so much Joey
