The Shanghai Metro is excellent. Used it during my last trip with great success. Very easy to use once you get the hang of it. If you've been on any other major metro/subway then you should have no problem. It's just like NYC, London, Tokyo, Paris etc.... The subways are very clean and efficient. Don't be afraid to try it out. Signage is in English everywhere.
I still don't understand how the tickets work when you load 10 onto a ticket. I took a ride. When i went to exit, it took my ticket and never returned it with less value.
@@85tkern you need to know which kind of ticket you use, if single ride ticket, you need to insert the ticket, the machine will receive the ticket and it can be rewrite and use again, if you use an metro card, when you exit the station, just tap the card same as enter, no need to insert
You follow the signs showing the number of the other line. How far it is depends on the station. Sometimes it is really close, less than one minute. For some big stations like People Square, it can be quite a walk. But the signs are very clear. No need to buy a new ticket either.
The best part of China’s public transport is air Con and Wi-fi all over the tube . No suffer in summer or winter lol I’m living in London and the tube is over heated at summer and tube smells like armpits in the face lol
Honestyle its not strict at all. They just pretend to be strict. Most of the guys/girls sitting at the xray machines are playing with their phones and dont even care about it. When they look into your back they really just look, theres no searching (its pointless) and the metal dectors are just hold at random spots at your body. This isnt a security check, its a joke :D

Also, Beijing Metro is similar to this as well if you travel there.
Very useful, especially about entering/exiting the station with the ticket.

one of the best metro systems in the world
Very helpful video! Looks very easy to navigate. I will be using the Metro a lot when I visit Shanghai.
having lived in several major Canadian and American cities, I was very impressed by the metro system in Shanghai.
Been to Shanghai many times. Their metro is MUCH better than anything in the states.
Now it has 19 lines. I love how easy it is to use.
uh, line 19 does not exist, and it only has 17 lines
little tip: the ticket machine only approach 5,10,20 bills and coins. The service deck can help you change the larger bill
actually it also take 50s
@aaronwu1027 Thank you for your valuable hint.
Does the X-ray scanning cause a line build-up?
Thanks
Thanks - a really useful video
Runs on time!
The turnstile and vending machine of shanghai metro 10 is similar in MRT MANILA AND LRT MANILA
How to change line in same station..is it long way to find tickets of another line???

you may buy a one day pass for only 18 CNY

hi is there a card that can be used to ride all the trains in shanghai?
You can buy a pass or a card that you load with some amount of money.
how can you recharge a metro pass?
@@roxdox03 What metro pass are you referring to? The 3-day pass like discussed above cannot be recharged.
No, I mean the card that you can use for a longer period... how do you recharge it when it gets empty?
@@roxdox03 The simplest way is at the ticket counter.
The best part of China's public transport is their strict security check.

并不这么认为,现在到处都是安检,有时候真的很让人心烦
in shanghai they dont care if you go through security or not unless your in big hub stations like hongqiao railway
御风wings 2014年亲眼看到有人在浦东机场值机台放烟花,没有经历过那种紧张,你不会明白安检的必要。
Can we purchase week pass of train ? How much it cost ?

If we take return ticket of maglav train we have to return after 1 trip at station exist or keep it for return journey.
I assume that you just swipe it (no inserting it) so that you keep it for the return trip. It is valid for 7 days.
Do the ticket machines take Visa or MasterCard?
No, you'll need cash.
Or WeChat Pay
From where I can purchase a day pass?
That's my home town. I was living by the people's square station. I'm proud of this metro system and this city.
I love your home town :) hopefully one day I'll be able to visit!
Tavi S. Thank you
One time when I rode this, I touched a used q tip, and, it was so gross and sticky.!.!. That was on my last year there.
