  • We follow Cadel Evans and the man he's pursuing, Andy Schleck as the Australian passes the Luxembourger to take the yellow jersey for the first time in the race in the second last stage - to reduce a deficit of 57 seconds and romp away to a lead of over a minute and a half to virtually secure the Tour de France 2011.

    As an Aussie who watched this live, have to come back and reminisce every now and again...
    Was so happy to finally see him win, he was never surrounded by the strongest team - really felt like he had to win this one on his own.

      I was actually there that day, about 1km from the finish line. So proud to be an Aussie at that ceremony, will never forget it.

    I remember watching this live on my laptop 7 years ago. It was my very first tour that I was able to watch all 21 stages of, instead of watching a few here and there, and later read about the results online.

      Stronger nerves than I had!! I spent Cadel's entire Time Trial pacing up and down outside- too nervous to watch!

      I'm a huge. Sports fan. The amount of work he had to do to even get himself in contention and then pull that out for me is the best achievement in Australian sports history.

      There was talk that he could have won the time trial but the team director told him to back off on the decents so he didn't risk crashing as he was going all out on the down hills. The goal wasn't the time trial but the overall GC so in hindsight the decision was the correct one.

      the team car actually told him to slow down in the final kms, they didn't want him coming off. otherwise he could well have won the stage.

    Such great memories of Cadel's '11 performances. I just had to watch that bunny-hop at speed again.
    I've rechecked this TT's profile, with more than 3x the elevation gain in this Sunday's '24 TdF final TT (700m+), we may have an even more exciting final competitive stage.
    A 3rd time winner or another white jersey, newbie, winner?
    Just who will be able to start the TT last & have the benefit that can offer after those almost 7.5kms of climbing over the 2 previous Alps days before the Monaco start?
    I bet there is NO Tina Arena singing any national anthem for this year's winner!
    Cadel won just in time to beat Murdoch's Sky-team powerhouse; better than beating the Pomme's in 'The Ashes'.

      ASO didn't like Phil's belief in Lance and shoved him. At least the US still hears his TdF calls! Lucky them, but they also like Trump, so there's no accounting for taste! (IMHO that is.)
      Long live global democracy!!!

    This entire Tour was Cadel v the World. The other teams wouldn't help with keeping the Shlecks in check, BMC couldn't support him the way most Tour leaders need, constant mechanical faults, team director mistakes, Cadel was equal or better than every hurdle.

    This is kind of confusing... Contador's time is 56'39", but Cadel Evans' time is 55'40"26... but they say Cadel is 2nd... makes no sense.

    • @MegaLlamalord
      @MegaLlamalord 6 років тому

      Cadel was nearly a minute ahead of Contador. That's why. Contador was at 56 minut4es. Cadel was at 55 minutes.
      Thought I get it, I had to go back and double check that when I saw that too.

    Cadel Evans, the mega doper

    • @bikewriter0154
      @bikewriter0154 3 місяці тому

      Evans was not a doper. You are obligated to provide evidence for such a claim. Evans would have had a better set of Tour de France results if he had doped. A number of his competitors were proven to have doped.

    Someone explain to me why Andy is so bad at TT. He has one of the highest power to weight ratios in the peloton and his skinny body should offer to much wind resistance. He must have the worlds worst TT position.

    • @mihaisichim6656
      @mihaisichim6656 7 років тому +8

      being skinny is not an advantage for TT. You must be a bigger guy to be good at TT

    • @SwedishHouseFifa

      tbh i would say shit position and he didnt have the mental strength to push the big watts in the tt.. because he had like 440w ftp when he as his best
