TDF 2011 Individual Time Trial - Cadel Evans Takes The Lead

- We follow Cadel Evans and the man he's pursuing, Andy Schleck as the Australian passes the Luxembourger to take the yellow jersey for the first time in the race in the second last stage - to reduce a deficit of 57 seconds and romp away to a lead of over a minute and a half to virtually secure the Tour de France 2011.
As an Aussie who watched this live, have to come back and reminisce every now and again...
Was so happy to finally see him win, he was never surrounded by the strongest team - really felt like he had to win this one on his own.
This was a huge moment for Australian sporting history, I remember staying up to watch it, fantastic ride.
I was actually there that day, about 1km from the finish line. So proud to be an Aussie at that ceremony, will never forget it.
I remember watching this live on my laptop 7 years ago. It was my very first tour that I was able to watch all 21 stages of, instead of watching a few here and there, and later read about the results online.
Stronger nerves than I had!! I spent Cadel's entire Time Trial pacing up and down outside- too nervous to watch!
I was there and it was electric!
@Chris-ij2xt I would have given so much to be there. I hope to be there in the future.
Rewatching yet again, 2024..These days the Pog...Just rewatching..Cadel. when he made it at last. after such narrow losses.thx 4 posting..it never gets old..& the best coverage..
Only 6 seconds short of Tony Martin despite all the work he did in the last week of the tour! Damn
I'm a huge. Sports fan. The amount of work he had to do to even get himself in contention and then pull that out for me is the best achievement in Australian sports history.
There was talk that he could have won the time trial but the team director told him to back off on the decents so he didn't risk crashing as he was going all out on the down hills. The goal wasn't the time trial but the overall GC so in hindsight the decision was the correct one.
that is a mega, mega ride from cadel. legendary
Great commentators. What a pleasure, to listen to them!
11 years :((( Time is going so fast. Remember like yesterday
One of the greatest moments in Aussie sports
Goosebumps…. Greatest sporting moment!
Awesome video, thanks. Felt my heart beat a bit faster at 6:05! At 9:00, Cadel is literally flying towards TDF victory :)
the team car actually told him to slow down in the final kms, they didn't want him coming off. otherwise he could well have won the stage.
Spoiler 2020 Tour:
whos watching this after pogacars massive performance on la planche de belle fies to also overturn a deficit of 57 secs?
wow I remembered cadel evans when I saw this race....
Good memories anyways
Back when Tour De France coverage on SBS wasn’t delusional. I miss this era
Phi Liggett and Paul Sherwen best era of cycling ever. Miss this SBS so much
Back then SBS was the best cycling coverage we could get.
I'm so envious - what a fantastic part of the world to ride a bike; good on you and thumbs up!
this is the stuff of legend
Evans Is A Fucking Machine
Such great memories of Cadel's '11 performances. I just had to watch that bunny-hop at speed again.
I've rechecked this TT's profile, with more than 3x the elevation gain in this Sunday's '24 TdF final TT (700m+), we may have an even more exciting final competitive stage.
A 3rd time winner or another white jersey, newbie, winner?
Just who will be able to start the TT last & have the benefit that can offer after those almost 7.5kms of climbing over the 2 previous Alps days before the Monaco start?
I bet there is NO Tina Arena singing any national anthem for this year's winner!
Cadel won just in time to beat Murdoch's Sky-team powerhouse; better than beating the Pomme's in 'The Ashes'.
I miss Phil and Paul commentating.
ASO didn't like Phil's belief in Lance and shoved him. At least the US still hears his TdF calls! Lucky them, but they also like Trump, so there's no accounting for taste! (IMHO that is.)
Long live global democracy!!!
This entire Tour was Cadel v the World. The other teams wouldn't help with keeping the Shlecks in check, BMC couldn't support him the way most Tour leaders need, constant mechanical faults, team director mistakes, Cadel was equal or better than every hurdle.
Those 57 seconds... Roglic also had a 57s lead over Pogacar before S20 in 2020
Good luck Andy!! TDF 2012 :)
Cadel Evans is a machine pure power!!
😂😂😂
Love the bunnyhop at 9:00 :-D
Who came here after #tdf2020 stage20 - ITT?
It’s almost identical, even though it wasn’t expected to happen this year.
Probably the best achievement in Australian sports history
2011 best moment in pro cycling!!!!!
2020: watch this
hey may have gotten the jersey here but in all honesty he won it at alp d'huez chasing the shlecks with no help.
got so drunk once Cadel secured it.
Melhor TT de todos os tempos!!
Watched this in a pub in Balmain, the security dudes couldn't work out why we were going nuts. Almost kicked us out until we explained what was going on. Big Tongan boyz said we could hang if we calmed tf down lol.
they were both pumping out 450 watts, that's just sick o_O
Legend
Nice one Cadel.
aussie cycling has now come of age
StFidjnr 🤣🤣🤣
And went back 30 years 8 years later.
Go Cadel.
This is kind of confusing... Contador's time is 56'39", but Cadel Evans' time is 55'40"26... but they say Cadel is 2nd... makes no sense.
Cadel was nearly a minute ahead of Contador. That's why. Contador was at 56 minut4es. Cadel was at 55 minutes.
Thought I get it, I had to go back and double check that when I saw that too.
Cadel Evans, the mega doper
Evans was not a doper. You are obligated to provide evidence for such a claim. Evans would have had a better set of Tour de France results if he had doped. A number of his competitors were proven to have doped.
hahaha!! some butt cheeks at 2:29 for Mr. Andy Schleck
yell for cadel!
F.Cancellara is 8th..
What happen ? I can't believe it..
I think cancellara is wearily
Cadel is such a machine, about time a Aussie does something worth while
Thank goodness no kask bambino or salbutamol
I really hope Andy win the TdF 2013.
So?
Lol

Someone explain to me why Andy is so bad at TT. He has one of the highest power to weight ratios in the peloton and his skinny body should offer to much wind resistance. He must have the worlds worst TT position.
being skinny is not an advantage for TT. You must be a bigger guy to be good at TT
tbh i would say shit position and he didnt have the mental strength to push the big watts in the tt.. because he had like 440w ftp when he as his best
Awful bike handling and absolutely no power.
He’s not “shit” at TT. He finished 17th out of a field of 167. It’s just that Evans is literally one of the best in the world.
i don't know about that
indeed, and they get paid pretty good .....
Aced De Gendt
2:28 secret hidden buttock of the Tour ^^
the schlecks were absolutely terrible bike handlers
and Matt Goss winning San Remo is ?
really sad video
the commentators are stuppid, I can do that too
repeat all the time who is good en who isn't today
....
