As a German (Aldi's home country) I can advise Americans to do grocery shopping like us: Aldi as a discounter has a far smaller variety of goods than the full assortment grocery stores, which are branded Edeka or Rewe here. We buy everything we can get at ALDI first and then we go to the next EDEKA or REWE to buy the rest of our shopping list. In average I pay 30% at Aldi for 70% of my weekly grocery shopping and 70% at the other store for the rest.
I am German as well... And I get all my weekly shopping done entirely at Rewe. Because it's on the way home from work and most importantly because it they have self scan and it's simply faster. But I only shop for myself. If I was shopping for a family, I'd probably choose Aldi, Lidl or Penny first as well.
It honestly depends for me. Depending on what’s for sale or simply convenience. If I wanna get something to drink, I just go to Rewe and use self-checkout but if I wanna by my regular groceries, I only buy at Aldi or Netto since they’re the cheapest overall.

I love Aldi, you can find the strangest things. If you go back around Christmas they have a lot of chocolate and peppermint treats plus cute decorations.
About 95% of Aldi is their store brand products with names that vary by food category. That’s one of the ways they save money. Another is the carts. Making you put it back to get your quarter back means they don’t have to employ cart wranglers. Not taking things out of boxes is another way they save money. (You could have picked up any empty box you saw to carry your loot around. That is encouraged.) another way they save money is they don’t play any music in their stores. Those ad-free music stations grocery stores use cost money! I like shopping there because their prices are great and to me the smaller stores with less variety of items is less overwhelming. I get a lot of basics mainly: fruits and veggies enough for the week, bread, snacks, milk, yogurt (theirs is definitely the cheapest) eggs, and pasta and sauce. I also will buy fun things too. Their cheese section is great and ever-changing with specialty cheeses from all over the world. Their chocolates are also fantastic and most are made in Europe. They have a sea salt dark chocolate where you get five snack-sized bars in a box and it feels super luxurious for just $1.99. I also really like their home finds section for all kinds of stuff. We got a 4 person tent over the summer. It’s not super fancy, but it’s pretty nice and I think it was $49.99. My favorite casserole dish I have came from Aldi and is a knock-off of the Le Creuset ceramic lidded ones. I think it was $19.99. They go all out with German stuff at Christmas too. It’s very fun. And at Thanksgiving they have the absolute best prices on turkeys.
Many stores do not play music. Not because of cost savings but for the fact that they do not like music playing in the store that may be off putting to customers.
I don’t go to Aldi as often as I’d like but they are amazing! If you are one who cares about food dyes and such, aldis is a great place to go. Most of their stuff if not all of it has no food dyes in it. So that’s a major plus for a lot of parents who try to stay away from the dyes.
I live in PA and switched from our chain store Giant to Aldi. I did a huge shop that would’ve cost around $175 at giant and only spent $90. Last week I shopped for dinners and breakfast and spent $50 on food. $7.75/day for all the food. The most expensive thing I bought was chicken thighs! 8 bone-in skin on for $8. They were used for 3 meals already!
I think you can ask for a quarter at the cashier. Then just return it. Also, lots of other shoppers notice people who don't have one and offer one for free. I do that all the time, or give my returned cart to them with the quarter still inside. It's a nice store.
Glad you got to experience Aldi felt bad you didn't have a quarter ,for shopping cart, Everetts tooth and note was so sweet also loved his shirt inside out and backwards with tag hanging out lol lol 😆
At 3:39 try the butter cookies !!!! big blue cylindrical tin can at the top left. They are amazing! When you open the can they smell and taste like freshy made 1 hour ago.
First shopped at Aldi when I lived in Germany in the 1980s, as soon as they arrived in UK I started shopping there and now they are so popular and in nearly every town. They change their specials on Sunday and Thursday. These are seasonal and include Chilcare, Christmas, Halloween, Gardening, Crafts and many others. We always shop on Thursday morning at 8am normally the car park is empty but this time it was nearly full. The reason was they were having a wooden toy event and with Aldi events once things are sold out that is it. Mums were definitely shopping for Christmas the toys are good quality and price. It was interesting seeing how different the stock is. Hope all is going well with the pregnancy. 🎉
It's the fastest growing grocery chain in the USA. If they continue growing at the same rate they will be number two in number of stores only after Walmart by 2028.
The timing was good for their expansion drive during the inflation boom. Those who don't have high brand loyalty can get quality food at low prices. In Germany I can still do my weekly shopping in 2024 for $18 to 25 (I only buy poultry or fish when on sale/discounted for short shelf life)
ALDI is getting rich by charging less. It is the sheer mass that reeks in the money. Different from trying to pry out every penny on every single sale.
I Love Aldi!!!! They seem to be the same size store everywhere. Most things are German made products or from Europe. Thanks for sharing Lauren. Safe travels ❤✌🙏
Yes, lots of products have just a different packaging, but are exactly like the ones you would get over here. Also nice to try is Aldi Nords US store, Trader Joes. In germany we habe two different Aldis, Aldi Süd (South) and Aldi Nord (North). They were one company, but the two brothers had a disagreement and split up. In the US the Aldi South is Aldi and Aldi North is Trader Joes.
We have three Aldi stores within a 10min drive from home. They have speciality sales for things like camping gear, gardening and back to school. My boys school back packs are from Aldi have so far lasted four years and are just now starting to show some wear and tear. Enjoy your trip and soak up some sun while you can 🌞🇦🇺
We have Aldi's here in Connecticut I love it they always have such fun stuff to find. Everetts little note to the tooth fairy at the end was so cute! 😄
ALDIS is a German-based company 90% of their goods are imported from Germany. The most wonderful time to shop at Aldi‘s is in September and beginning of October they bring in all the fabulous German foods for Oktoberfest and the prices are so wonderful and if you hit it at a good time, they do have specials on their wines, meats, cheeses, and just all around kitchen stuff and household goods. Glad you got to experience a trip to ALDIS
can not be true. we do not have most everything i saw in this video. as i know most of their stuff is produced for them in usa. of course some items are really from germany. the other way around would be way to exspensive.
@@michaelkusica5333 same here, lots of in Germany unknown products. Okay, some may simply be renamed to make it easy for non German speakers but then the products at least would still look the same. And I am sure, when Aldi don't want to fail in the US they have to offer more convenience stuff and all things Americans regard as "must haves", which may differ a lot from their German wares.
90% - never. Not even 10%. The USA (and also the EU) are rather protected food markets. Tolls, different regulations, and simply the distance makes the export of food price-wise not attractive. Tastes and habits also differ. Even Coca-Cola and Fanta do taste different. And even the items pretending to be German do not have to come from Germany. Those can be produced in the USA after German recipes or by subsidiaries of German food companies in the USA. Examples: Pumpkin-spiced pretzels - definitely not a thing in Germany. Hi Lauren It’s great that you got to experience Aldi it does have a majority of home brands. . The fresh produce is always good value. I also love their special buys section which is generally in the centre of the store. Which can include clothing, gardening, hobbies. Gift ware for children is always at a good price.
Everett is adorable! My kids (18 & 26) just found a bin with some of their childhood things inside and had fun looking back at some of their old schoolwork and notes to Santa etc. They laughed at how they spelled certain words but I always thought it was adorable!
I read up on the history of Aldi's and its origins. Really interesting. Started by brothers who later split the company with one remaining in Germany/Europe and the other brother spread to outside Europe. From what I remember the company is split yet still under an umbrella company. In order to sell your items at Aldi's and its sister stores the product had to meet certain guidelines. I think Trader Joe's is a sister company too. What you saw is the general set up for every Aldi I have ever been to. Having a quarter, reusable bags and a willingness to experience unknown brands makes it a great place to shop and save money.
Hello Lauren! Im so glad that you tried Aldi for 1st time! When i used to live in Fl i always shop there for groceries , home goods specially for the kitchen and patio stuff. I love their prices, cheese, meats, seasonal things. They are not a fancy store in that way they can keep the prices lower. Now in Michigan i shopped like 1/2 of the groceries. I just saw clothes for the girls in the hotel closet how cute. I love from aldi thr dried fruits. Take care and enjoy the warm weather with the family in Texas.
They have their own system of packaging and just put it in the shelves with the cardbord it comes with. they also just put pallets in the shop as they arrive. and their own knockoff brands that sometimes come from the same company as the original just different packaging. I love Aldi.
How fun that you have a little trip to go on and fun how you get to meet other i fluencers from UA-cam. Hope you had fun !! Everett is getting so big !! ❤
We live Aldi! I was excited thinking you had an Aldi in AK. Maybe some day. You can always ask the cashier for a quarter. Sometimes they'll lend you one, or they'll give you change. Lots of their stuff is made my name brand mfg but it is all made to Aldi standards. They have a Twice as Nice Guarantee too. Their chocolates are so good. That goodie aisle is affectionately referred to as The Aisle of Shame or AOS. There a are Facebook groups devoted to Aldi fans. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. Your boys are so good. Everett! He's a hoot and warms my heart.
In Germany the cashiers have often some plastic "coins" with the dimensions of a Euro (= the coin that goes into the cart) that fits into the carts. Ask and the give you one for free.
What a FUN event😊‼️ You’re a GREAT SPORT MARK👍😊That mashed potato bar was a great idea- I have only done that with baked potatoes. The nail salon was incredible with the food‼️Glad you were able to enjoy the day too Lauren. Thanks for taking us along❤️😊👍‼️
We have several Aldi stores in our area that i shop at weekly. So much cheaper then Giants and other grocery stores. Our Aldis are a little bigger then the one you showed. Not fancy but clean and cheap.
In Europe, we need a coin (usually 1 or 2 euro/pounds/franks) for every supermarket cart, so we usually keep a few in the car. You often get coin-like tokens from places like car sales rooms, banks etc, that you can keep on your key ring, instead of using actual money.
Loved the Aldi shop. REALLY loved the Texan sized mini bar - hahaha everything is bigger in Texas my dad always said. Seemed like a really nice hotel too. ❤ hugs n love from Clgary, AB, Canada
Everett is so cute. Loved his letter to the tooth fairy. We had Aldi’s back east in Maryland and West Virginia. I really liked them. Glad you were able to rest and relax! Hope you have a blessed week!
Love Aldi. Prices are reasonable. Good selection! At Christmas my family loves all the German chocolates 🍫 Most the stores similar as yours . Just remember bring your own bags & shopping carts 25 cents.
I'm glad you got you see what Aldi is all about. I noticed different products in that Aldi location as opposed to my local Aldi. I do appreciate the seasonal items they carry-especially at Christmas time. I have extra quarters in my car for the cart😏 Everett is such a charmer!! What a sweet note he wrote to the tooth fairy☺
We have Aldi in my area & they are all pretty small, but they do have good seasonal items & their home items are super reasonable & end of season things are at giveaway prices. They are great around here for fresh produce & fruit...I always buy those german windmill cookies too !
You need a cart. You know it’s not a true Charcuterie board unless it has meat. Look it up. Get change at the register.Smeg refrigerator is high end, Carmel salt is excellent.
WOW! So interesting to see all the fun American Snacks. We don't see them in South Africa but some of those Deutsche Sacks we do see often because of our heritage. The Speculoos (Spekulaas in my language) is particularly yummy. Give it a try when you can, you won't be disappointed.
I am not a huge Aldi fan when it comes to my grocery shopping but only because there isn’t enough variety for me and also I need to buy in bulk that being said, I do love their holiday area and plants
It’s a big aldi he we have three of them right around where I live. Make sure you go down the houseware aisle middle. They can have some good stuff down there.
I love Aldi. I grew up in the Fairbanks area but I’ve been living in the lower 48 for the last 10 years. I still am impressed by the variety of products and the low prices in the lower 48 vs Alaska😂!
Lauren, for future reference at ALDI if you don't have a quarter just ask a cashier and they will either give you one or they have extra carts up front.
The warm weather of Texas looks good on you! Here in NC, we have both Aldi and Lidl, which are very similar. In my town we only have Lidl, but I love the store and shop there every week. Their produce is the best of any store in town and they have many other great products. Their prices are very good too. Check them out next time you are in the lower 48.
Aldi is one of the grocery stores I go to for specific things (we live north of Houston) ... their "lite" bread is very good and much less expensive than other brands at other grocery stores. I buy a fair amount of produce there and most of the cheeses that we enjoy. Their cauliflower crust pizzas are delicious, eggs and butter are generally less expensive ... and their frozen food selection is good. We went to an Aldi in Italy, I think, that had a fresh bakery where I got some delicious sweet rolls. Aldi is a favorite place!
I used to shop at ALDIs but I moved out of the city to the woods so there’s not a ALDIs around me I have to drive quite a bit to get to one but I do miss it but loved all the fall flavors they had and love the dupes they have for items also.
For future reference, if you don't have a quarter for your cart, most employees will loan one, Also, it is often the case that a customer will just give their cart to someone when they are done.
in europe ,we established plastic coins, and you´ll get them everywhere for free
usually they store plastic tokens at cash registers which do the job as well, here in Europe!
If you don't have a quarter, use a house key. Take it off your key chain and use the rounded end.

I just saw clothes for the girls in the hotel closet how cute. I love from aldi thr dried fruits. Take care and enjoy the warm weather with the family in Texas.
Everett is so cute with his shirt inside out and backwards.😊
His note is the cutest thing ever ❤
Absolutely love Everett little shirt on wrong side out and backwards he is adorable
That is a common occurrence for him., if we are not going anywhere I just let it be!
We love Aldi shop there all the time 😊
Love Aldi. The one thing we really miss after leaving California for Utah. 😢
Love the big fridge in your room!
I did. too, only problem is they had so many things for “purchase” in there, it left barely any room for my leftovers. 😂 Super cute though!
The peanut butter cups are addictive!!!
They have their own system of packaging and just put it in the shelves with the cardbord it comes with. they also just put pallets in the shop as they arrive.
and their own knockoff brands that sometimes come from the same company as the original just different packaging. I love Aldi.
I love little kid notes. It’s so fun to see how they spell things. You need to put that in Everett’s baby book to keep forever. So sweet. 😊
How fun that you have a little trip to go on and fun how you get to meet other i fluencers from UA-cam. Hope you had fun !! Everett is getting so big !! ❤
Aldi has German week a few times a yr. That's what most of the Deutche cookies, noodle mixes are from.
Oh fluffanutter brings back all my childhood memories, a sandwich with peanut butter and marshmallow fluff was a standard lunch during the summer
4:14 buy them and dip them into hot coffee.
Kids can be the cutest things you gotta love those moments shopping at Aldi's does save some God bless and take care
In Europe, we need a coin (usually 1 or 2 euro/pounds/franks) for every supermarket cart, so we usually keep a few in the car. You often get coin-like tokens from places like car sales rooms, banks etc, that you can keep on your key ring, instead of using actual money.
Interesting! It is not a thing in Alaska so I didn’t even remember to grab something. I eventually grabbed an empty box to carry my loot in.
Loved the Aldi shop. REALLY loved the Texan sized mini bar - hahaha everything is bigger in Texas my dad always said. Seemed like a really nice hotel too. ❤ hugs n love from Clgary, AB, Canada
The Girl Scout cookies at Aldie are dupe and they’re really good
Everett is so cute. Loved his letter to the tooth fairy. We had Aldi’s back east in Maryland and West Virginia. I really liked them. Glad you were able to rest and relax! Hope you have a blessed week!
loved his fashion statement! tag hanging out! he is so adorable 😊
That is a common sight with Everett. If we're not going anywhere, I just let it be!
@@ThisAlaskaLife I don’t blame you. He is so cute! And has his own sense of style…🤗
Love Aldi. Prices are reasonable. Good selection! At Christmas my family loves all the German chocolates 🍫 Most the stores similar as yours . Just remember bring your own bags & shopping carts 25 cents.
I live in Alabama.
I miss my Aldi since moving to Anchorage.
Happy you had a fun time in Texas….your looking really well Lauren….in fact you are glowing 👍♥️
I love Aldi...their produce is fantastic! I love their German windmill cookies that they have this time of year!!
Looking well Lauren stay safe keep well🎉❤
Thank you! Will do!
Glad you enjoyed ALDIs. Loved Everett’s lost tooth note!! That’s a keeper !!🦷🦷
The motel is so cute. Love to see people remodel, instead of tearing down.
The boxes are handy for when you forget to bring a quarter.
The staff will give you a token for the trolley/cart if you don't have one which is very helpful.
We have Aldi in my area & they are all pretty small, but they do have good seasonal items & their home items are super reasonable & end of season things are at giveaway prices. They are great around here for fresh produce & fruit...I always buy those german windmill cookies too !
Hello from the UK Aldi is my household favourite supermarket
Love watching you and the family, always bring smiles to my face.
Love Aldi here in NE Iowa. They have wonderful chocolate! Regularly shop there and save money!
Love the retro motel. Good video
Love your videos. I’m glad you got to go to Aldi. We have them here in AL. I love to shop there.
You need a cart. You know it’s not a true Charcuterie board unless it has meat. Look it up. Get change at the register.Smeg refrigerator is high end, Carmel salt is excellent.
Indiana/ love our Aldi’s
WOW! So interesting to see all the fun American Snacks. We don't see them in South Africa but some of those Deutsche Sacks we do see often because of our heritage. The Speculoos (Spekulaas in my language) is particularly yummy. Give it a try when you can, you won't be disappointed.
I am not a huge Aldi fan when it comes to my grocery shopping but only because there isn’t enough variety for me and also I need to buy in bulk that being said, I do love their holiday area and plants
when you dont want a cart, we use the big empty cardboards from shelves and put our stuff in it and you can take it home too.
That is the regular size for Aldi. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
It’s a big aldi he we have three of them right around where I live.
Sounds great! I will keep an eye out the next time I travel.
That popcorn is so dang good!
I love love love Aldi. That’s where I do my weekly shopping. Great good tasting finds.
The Benton brand taste wonderful. The grass feed beef and free range chicken is great.
I love Aldi.I find nice product.hope your doing good lauren❤
Thanks for sharing🥰
Love the decor in the hotel
The hotel was so great! Such a good vibe.
