I built my own sled with 2 4x4's for the runners...a piece of plywood for the to form the frame. 3 galvanized pipes and 3 flanges. 2 for handles 1 for the plates in the middle. It works great...runs smoothly especially on concrete and will last for a very long time...
@@keithfanning2387 It'll probably be cheaper now because wood was crazy expensive in 2021. It was right around $100 but again plywood was crazy expensive a couple years ago. The first one I built was about $30 because plywood was cheap at the time
@@cutlerwiggins5978 No I just imagined it then built it. I took the 2 4x4's and glued and screwed down 2' X 4' piece of plywood to the 4x4's. I put two pipe on one side as handles and one in the middle for the weight stack. Here's a vid of me running the first one I built ua-cam.com/video/YVr9bZQj7XsI/v-deo.html call it Bob the sled...LOL
Coop...I own this sled from FREAK ATHLETE and LOVE IT for exactly the reason you said = bidirectional PUSH-PULL workouts! Just like the Mini Nordic, it is not Rogue quality but it is solid and gets the job done! Ben Patrick (Knees Over Toes Guy) is the man! Coop from Garage Gym Reviews is equally as awesome!
I’ve got this puppy and HIGHLY recommend! The ability to push then pull quickly back and forth and not have to flip it around is definitely really convenient during a high-intensity workout. And the fact that this thing is so compact and can be taken apart and put together so quickly is amazing. I’ve got the plastic rails on the bottom, and have only used this indoor in my house. I actually tied a blanket to the bottom of it and do them on my wood floors 😆 but works like a champ! My plan is to get a strip of turf in my home gym to do sledding on, just because I think that’d be cool 😎
I've only used it on my wood floors, with a blanket tied underneath, so I can't really speak to how loud it is on other surfaces, like concrete. But in my application, it's dead quiet :)
I recently bought the Spud Fitness Mini Me Sled. Works great! I use it as a sled on grass. For pushing, I face away from the sled and “push” on the straps. I also use it to attach weight plates to my cable pulley system.
I love sleds. What appeals to me about this sled vs. my Rogue Echo sled is it appears it can store very compactly. I’ve got a lot of room in my garage gym, but space is still of a premium.
Even with a 3 "car" gym, I agree. Space is a premium as it isnt a purpose built commercial facility that can be expanded or just massive to begin with.
I have this sled and for the most part I like it. I do have some issues when pushign the sled. The side I am pushing constantly lifts up. But you can make it work.
I picked this up a couple of months ago and I completely agree with your review. I love the versatility of it. I only have one set of handles for it with the pull strap and being able to push and drag on the same side without having to flip it around or unclip the strap is great. I've been running it in my backyard and it does a decent job. Definitely rips up your grass and is WAY heavier/has more drag on grass as opposed to concrete. I completely agree with your downside regarding the quality of the materials though. The powdercoat around the clip came off the FIRST time I clipped the belt on which I thought was ridiculous. Even on grass, the powdercoat along the bottom is shredding off quickly as well. Doesn't affect the quality of my workout, but it doesn't look great. Not an issue on my end, but for some it might be.
FYI the product page link now points to the Freak Athlete Wheelbarrow sled. Seems like they've rather quickly discontinued it and replaced the mutli-sled with this fancy new thing that's now available for pre-order. Anyone have any thoughts on the wheelbarrow?
Might finally give a sled a try, never used one in my life. This one seems like a good choice for sure. Moved into a new house not too long ago, and finally almost done setting up my gym (still need mirrors installed lol). There is over 2k sqft of fully open, heated/cooled unfinished basement space (~2.5:1 rectangle) with smooth and even concrete floor. Seems like a great place for a sled. Been biking around in there for a bit with no problem too (perfect for cold & snowy winters lol).
I'm keen on getting one of these. Would this be suitable on "normal" carpet in a house? Don't have a drive or garage I could use this on but do have a long hallway with a bedroom at either end.
Can you review the ironax xla functional trainer? It comes with many attachements re: lat seat, foot plate, half rack conversion kit. Wondering if its any good?
Hi Coop, what would be your recommendation for loadable dumbbells plates, I'm looking to buy the rogue db15 off your recommendation to start building my gym but there doesn't seem to be a lot for plate options
Glad I purchased the @shogunsports versus this freak athlete non existent version(discontinued). The new version of freak athlete sled has tire maintenance and pretty much copied the wrap around type system from Shogun 😒🤷♂️
I have shallow grass on red clay soil and it works well. It has much more drag and feels much heavier on grass so I only load up about 25 lbs - 45 lbs or my 16 month old daughter onto it lol. Granted it has created a bald patch where I run the sled on my lawn, but I don't really care about that.
I have a rogue slice sled and it totally sucks imo. It's the only piece of gym equipment I've bought and immediately considered returning. As Coop mentions, having to spin the sled on every rep is such a pain. But possibly worse is that the wedge shape of the sled constantly digs into cracks and uneven parts of my driveway and gets stuck. This sled looks cool, but honestly after owning a budget sled, my only next move would be to either save up for the rogue echo or dog sled, or really save up for a Torque.

How much did it cost you to build all that?

Question for you - how loud is it? I’ve been debating on this vs a completely quiet torque sled, but not sure if this is as similarly as quiet

Have you ever used it in the grass?
Great minds think alike...I got this sled and use it the exact same way indoors and will eventually get artificial turf!
Don't have a garage or drive, but have a long, carpeted hallway. Based on your experience, do you think this is suitable for normal, indoor carpet?
My wife walks into the living room, sees Coop, and yells, "Luigi!" 😂😂

A tac weld on the rogue and bam problem solved
Curious how this would perform on grass versus the Rogue Slice. Seems like its shape might be a better fit for that type of surface
I’m curious how this might function on grass as well. Has anyone used it on grass?
Seems like its no longer on their site?
Did they discontinue this? 404 on their page. Maybe they're trying to their new wheelbarrow sled?

Rugby teams use them in the UK. It's like American Football(ish).
Not everybody has an airplane hanger. I want to hear how loud it is and see how well it goes over bumps or sidewalk joints, etc
I have it, its great but id prefer a magnetic sled
Hope you can make a review on a new SPEEDIANCE POW (hope it's not misspelled) which is a lookalike of the Vitruvian trainer +. Thanks
are you going to review the new REP bars? Specifically the black diamond power bar?

Nice reviews lately. Music getting exponentially more obnoxious. Wife had to come look at what the hell am I watching when the intro music kicked it.
do they still make this sled? I can't find it anywhere.
Too bad they discontinued this, great design replaced it with a much larger completely different sled.

which is better, this or Rogue slice?

The design is stupid the base is too thin causing instability for pushes. Clearly the design team went to the toilet while this was discussed..
they replaced it with some overpriced crap
