    "Maybe there's a party going on to which I'm not invited - which would be very, very normal' - made my day.

    59:00 "it makes a ton of sense to make him play e4" opponent plays e4 "I don't like that anymore"

    Svidler's commentary is always enjoyable and usually educational. Thanks as always

    Great commentary! Anything free from Peter Svidler is a gift. One quick comment, at 1:44:44 Peter immediately senses that Bh6 should be punished ("No, that shouldn't work"), but doesnt have time to find the knockout Bd4+! This is so relatable because it's frustrating when you can intuit a forced win but don't quite have time and play a second-best move.

    Chess suddenly looks so simple and easy to understand when Svidler is playing and commentating on his games !

    Peter, it may be a "Golden Age" of chess commentary, but you certainly are one of the best. Thanks for all you do.

    There are more entertaining banter blitz players, but GM Svidler's commentary is very instructional. Well done.

    42:39 - 44:21 "And Ramsey Bolton, true to his Character, plays mind games with you and makes a move when you are just about to abort, almost winning against a player rated 800 points more" - Jan Gustafsson

      Did Jan actually say this?

    It's akin to someone who can barely play 3 blind mice watching Art Tatum. The positional understanding and line calculation speed is mind-boggling. I don't pretend to follow it all (although he's so erudite I follow a lot) but seeing anyone who is brilliant doing the thing they're brilliant at is an absolute joy.

    40:17 isn't Bxc3 winning a piece? Because after bxc3 black could exchange his queen for two rooks (Qxb8 rxb8, rxb8+) and is a knight up.

    • @danambru2917
      @danambru2917 7 років тому

      White can also recapture with the rook, as after Bxc3 Rxc3 looks like bad news for black... as the strong bishop from g7 that was previously also protecting the black king now is gone for good!

      Of course. Thank you!

    At 1:44:46 Peter somehow missed the obvious (and crushing) *1...Bd4+*.
    Clearly *2.Nd4* loses to *2...Rh3*. If *2.Rf2 Rd1+* leads to mate, as does the only other possibility, *2.Kh1 Nf2+ 3.Rf2 Rd1+*.
    He must have been tired indeed to miss that.

    Surely A2 is even stronger at 1:12.39. Still winning was taking the pawn though.

    Svidler ist wie immer sehr selbstkritisch. Seine Partien sind meiner Meinung nach aber objektiv besser als die von Jan Gustafsson.
