Good demonstration of breath control and rope skipping for 6 minutes straight. My new goal.

Love these videos, very informative but highly frustrating for myself, I love skipping but because of a knee problem my footwork skills are limited.😢

It’s was great to get the reply concerning my limited skipping footwork problems because of bad knees, I seem to be ok if I do technique’s such as basic, straddle, slalom, bell hop, heel ,toe taps , but I cannot hope on one leg or do high knees or forward running, weirdly mummy runs are fine !!??!! I’ve got my own version of boxer skip 😂 it’s strange because I have arthritis I’m my knees but I really do feel that the skipping actually helps👍 ,apologies for the extended waffle.!

It will help. Get yourself a mat & keep your ‘jumping’ sessions short

Im absolutely useless at skipping for anything longer than 40seconds, I’ve been skipping for a few years now and although I’ve learnt different tricks I’m hopeless at skipping , I’ve followed different tutorials on how to skip longer but to no avail.!! My legs just gas out and start aching , calves quads etc, I used to do really heavy lifting in years gone by and I used to hammer legs on leg day…….. a couple of years ago I tried to improve my swimming by having lessons, during these my instructor said that I struggled because I had ‘heavy legs’ because the weight training had built up bone density, do you think this is why I have problems skipping . Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

Skipping eh are there many things more frustrating, came home from the gym earlier and I feel like having myself a skipping rope barbecue and melting my ropes down. I follow the video advice, skip in front of a mirror but even after all this time I still get problems…..rope length, some days better with shorter rope I’ll skip like a dervish but then it’ll go west so I’ll go back to longer rope skip like a dervish then it’ll go west again !!??!! Also skipping with hands c lose to hips is hopeless, too tight, I watch boxers Floyd Mayweather Mike Tyson etc etc but they seem to use long ropes with hands out wide to the side but everyone says it’s wrong but then say Mayweather is the best !!??!!😂 Don’t get me started on beaded ropes, I realise now why boxers don’t use them.

Relax my brother. Most Boxers have a longer rope and prefer a wider arm position because it helps with endurance of arms doing more work and they tend to use skipping as a short part of their training for footwork. So as long as they are getting success, they won’t be too bothered about analysing the form. There sport is boxing, not jump rope.
And it’s okay for everyone to have a different style.
When it comes to skipping - it takes time to adjust your form and to get it from wide to really close.
So embrace the challenge and just judge your progress on success of your jumps.
Get the correct rope, size it to match you and then practise simple footworks in a fun challenging way. Build that base and over time look to adjust form or try more advanced footworks & tricks.
      👍🏼

You are of course right and it makes sense about the boxers technique’s , really appreciate the comments, I admit I’m not known for my patience sometimes 😮 wish it didn’t bother me as much 😂 👍
