Mark panic shooting when the lights went out only proves that he'd be the only one who'd survive in a horror movie by pure luck

@@neilcicerega4326 The killer would end up scared of him and flee the scene instead

I like how hes so desensitized to horror that he doesnt even question why his hand is already covered in blood once he picks up the gun.
well he literally spawned in a dungeon, you'd assume that's the setting
Why? It's a game
that was my 1st thought
@@blackaddertheeternallyvexe7417 actual genuine question here, what actually is the difference between a mag and a clip? I've always heard them used interchangeably.
@@spiderbug7615 mag feeds the gun, clip feeds a mag
A first person shooter where they don't tell you how much ammo you have has so much potential for a horror setting
It was pretty good in Condemned: Criminal Origins, all you gotta do now is make ammo limited and let players see how much ammo is left in their mag.
And maybe implement the ol' *hardcore* reloading system where reloading gets rid of all ammo in your current magazine so you have to decide when's the best time to reload and how many bullets should be left in your magazine when you do reload so you can minimize ammo loss.
@@OrionDawn15 Or keep the magazines though have them partially loaded until you reload the magazines, which you must stop & enter a menu (though gameplay continues) to do
@@stupidthefish1979 Eh, I think that's cheap and pretty bullshit. Especially if the menu is ridiculously convoluted or something. I'd prefer the player character simply cycling through the mags automatically when you reload like in Insurgency or Ready Or Not.
@@OrionDawn15 Make reloading throw away all the ammo in a magazine, never know how many magazines they actually have and then only let them know the ammo when you check manually. If you want extra evil here, make it so a player has to manually count how many bulets are left in the magazine themselves without any help from the game.
Imagine an enemy appearing, you shoot twice and run out of ammo, only to realize you have no magazines left.
If you want recycling magazines, have the player choose when they want to reload a magazine with bullets and have it take time, so they have to reload mags outside of combat.
@@Eve.Valentine That’s also a pretty good idea too.

seeing a silhouette of a person that turns out to be fake (like a statue, or in this game clothes hanging on a wall) is like such a cheap scare in horror games and i love it every single time it never gets old to me
Honestly it's done so well, "cheap" isn't the word I'd use. Like I was convinced that was a person and the game swapped them out or something, but I can't *prove* it and I'm pretty sure I'm losing my mind.

@@Kidders03visage had one i believe
@@Kidders03 Visage. I believe Mark made a full playthrough of that demo but didn't play the full game. :(
Love the reference
I think I figured it out. The immersiveness is the fact that the arms move mildly out of sync with the camera. Rather than the arm and camera center being exactly the same distance apart at all times, the arm MOVES within the camera view, with the camera only moving when the arms move far enough away from some centerpoint. It's subtle but makes a big difference for that immersive feeling.
IIRC Metroid Prime games had this exact aiming system
The sound is also very good
That and the way things move around in your depth of field. It's kinda pukey, but very cool
I think I can see why the enemies stacked up so much around 13:51. Because he did the farthest valve first, the first enemy through the door probably was supposed to have spawned upon going through the first of the double-gates (visible during the second attempt, where he met the enemy right away after the gates were opened, because by then Mark did it the visual way of opening the closer one first).
That's why the ominous music popped up and kept going in and out, because it was that one enemy, spawned and stuck somewhere on the other side of the wall while following him until the passage was opened. The others were more evenly spaced out, as they only triggered after he reached the certain spot in that room.
Mark: *Gets assaulted by a monster*
Mark: “I’ll kill you! I’LL KILL YOU!!!”
Mark: *Shoots the monster dead*
Mark: “Honestly, I didn’t expect that to work.”
i love how he blindly fired and still managed to kill him
10:32
I wish he double tapped him just to be doubly sure
I loved how calm he was after killing it
But shooting's worth it as Mark need not worry to defend himself!
That first scare was so well done. Like I was sat there unsure whether or not it was a chain swinging or an actual man.
there was a big dude peeking behind the wall that appeared for like about a second
I physically fell out of my chair on that that first jump scare
Same I had to go back and check 😂
The second at 6:45 was also clever for a different reason. His head hiding in the dark, so he can see you, but you can't tell it's his head until it moves away.
Really shows how vulnerable you are in the dark.
This games somehow makes you feel completely defenceless despite giving you a gun within a minute.
And actually allowing you to shoot the monsters/enemies.
I would like to note how resilient mark is. I feel like we forget that he’s playing by himself, in a room, That’s red. With really bad feng shui, like he’s legit facing his back towards the door while wearing headphones.

The most notable detail I noticed that helps the immersiveness is the fact that the hands move separately before the camera does, so instead of the camera being locked to the perspective of the gun, it emulates the real motion of pointing it at something

I don't have trypophobia, but that monster with all the dots on it made my skin crawl just because of how weird looking it was. Poor Mark
I can't even begin to tell you how much anxiety this game gave me, 10/10 perfect horror game. The realism and the aspects of the body cam footage reducing your vision and forcing you to not see things that most people could see in the dark is terrifying! I was on the edge if my seat watching this, I have NO idea how markiplier could just be so calm. The slow turning camera is so anxiety enducing, it's like you were playing in a controller. The ambient loud sounds and the screams and moans of the monsters were so scary I almost shat myself. (That little dance at the end was the most terrifying bit.)
I love how, in any horror game, the moment Mark gets a gun, he just starts firing. Does he have limited ammo? Unlimited ammo? Who knows! He just shoots the darkness, and I love him for it.

Springfield XD40 in .40 S&W was perhaps the first pistol I ever shot! I am very impressed with how well that model seems to represent the actual pistol/design.
Well, except for the weird videogame-y way in which every time you reload, even if the slide isn't locked back, it's like once you drop the mag somehow some machine in the gun locks the slide back for you... inconveniently...

I love how Mark is getting more comfortable with giving criticism in his gameplay recently. Really shows that he cares and pays attention to whatever he's playing
He used to do a lot back in the 2014-16's, same time he did his deeper "announcer" voice which he rarely does anymore due to it straining his voice a lot and even losing his voice due to using it too much. The reason he stopped giving criticism was cause he felt he was nitpicking the game too much and that it disheartened developers from continuing their projects or even giving up entirely.
But I also am glad he is starting to bring it back because Marks influence on the horror genre is definitely undeniably enormous, so perhaps he can make a dev feel challenged to create the "next best indie horror game"
I really appreciate that Mark isn't the type to just be consistently happy about whatever he's playing and will provide actual good constructive criticism on them

the noises the enemies make while you aren’t even able to see them remind me of the terror i felt listening to the RE8 fetus monster roam Donna’s mansion. it’s so interesting how the sound design enhances these enemies from being like any other canon fodder in any other game, to something that keeps you on the edge of your seat, constantly searching for its source.

I hate how every time something scary happens in this game,
it's always 100x louder than everything else in the game.
yeah. its dumb and its not better for me caus i got tism
It's bad game design. And physical assault because it can cause hearing problems.
@@Offensive_Username hope this is a troll comment but what happened is called a jump scare, it's meant to be loud And sudden to catch you off gaurd and freak you out, then again I've not gotten to the jump scare part so maybe your right lmao
@@Offensive_Username Just lower the volume brother...
@@Pizzaisbetter72 Jump scares are lazy. If the only way you can elicit any reaction from your audience is a loud high pitched sudden noise and a large bright flashy movement in otherwise total silence and pitch blackness... you are just phoning it in. Atmospheric horror should be the standard not the exception.
I like how the character’s gun is very hard to aim just like in real life. A lot of people would think they’re just as accurate as in a typical shooter, but anyone who’s been to a range know it’s hard to aim at even a still target if you don’t have a whole lot of experience, let alone when you’re both moving.
This is weirdly good. The perspective is so realistic, not just locking on what’s in front of you. The hands move independently from the camera and feels super real, like a movie.
Love the use of sound and not relying on visuals too btw.
Final enemy going full "Thriller" was kinda funny
i have been thirsting for more Markiplier content i just can’t get enough

Thought u said "ive been thirsting for markiplier" and i was about to agree but as a joke of course
Yeah... A joke
SAME
I have never appreciated anything more than Lixian putting trypophobia warnings, you’ve made my entire day 😭
That's why I like this kind of horror games, they manage to scare you even if you have a gun
