For me I played JV because there were 5 seniors who played CAM (the position I play) They told me that I could get game time with JV or ride the bench all season with varsity. I took JV and I'm very happy about that. I learned a lot and now I play varsity soccer and I'm very glad I did what I did. It's cool to see you, Matt, do something similar at a high level! Keep up the good work!
I've been playing competitive soccer for years and for some reason I still don't know how to juggle. After watching these videos I decided to do something about it. 6 days into doing 1000 juggles and I've improved my best from 6 to 9 to 16 to 22 to 27 to 36. Thanks for your motivation. I'm slowly getting there!
Matt, i love your videos! Their great quality and make me want to improve my football skills more, your an idol that i look upto. One day i hope to be an inspiring footballer just like you :)
On a side note: have you considered looking at conference level football in England? Plenty of teams knocking about, might be worth having a scan and contact a few people.
I dont understand why you cant play for some of the Better teams like 1st division when you train hard every Day. And you have good dribling and physical skills.
olli thi its not only based on that its also your vision, reflexes, awareness and your experience playing the game what makes you a great player thats why its not as easy as just training, eating right, resting and being focused which is already hard but its about your overall experiences and your style of play also keep in mind like he said sometimes you dont fit in the team
hi Matt great video. Both son and daughter are watching trying to "become elite". both u10. your drills are awesome is it possible to get ladder drills for their age specific? I have them moving an stopping ball in the square. ty
hey Matt I'm currently in south africa and I've been following you for almost 4 months. I cannot purchase the become elite off season program don't you have an alternative ? please help
Matt, in your gym sessions what do you mainly focus on? strength or bulking. Also I'm 16 years old weighing about 77 kg, would you recommend your meal plan to me or not. Thank you
I'm playing in an adult over 18 league right now to help me get more match fit but I'm having trouble tactically and positionally. I have noticed that all the individual stuff is working but 3 years out injured is making my game suffer, do you have any tips and drills so that I can fix that. I try to watch and learn from games and highlight videos and it helps but I guess I need more team practices before I transfer to my new school this fall
Matt, or anyone else who can help out, I have recently discovered something that is holding me back... My coach revealed to me that I apparently look extremely awkward and clumsy on the ball, despite this not being the case. He said that despite my good technical ability, I always look clumsy and awkward on the ball.... I can confirm this just isn't him, as I've had people laugh at my dribbling style(before I go past 2 or 3 ;)) in the past. How can I look better dribbling, and look better on the ball if you get what I mean? I'm 1.82 at 13, lanky, so perhaps this contributes, but this isn't an excuse for looking clumsy on the ball. What can I do?
Hey Matt, You probably won't see this, but maybe other UA-camrs maybe able to help. I'm returning to football after 3 years out, so need to regain fitness and strength. I note, I'm not looking to play professionally, just want to get back in and get healthier. However, 7 years ago, I tore my ACL; had reconstructive surgery. It's all good, though I'm a bit anxious about playing on it in its current state. Do you have any gruelling football-orientated leg workouts you would recommend? Kind regards, Ross.
I know you live in Germany right now but you used to live in the U.S so why didn't you try for an MLS team, or are opportunities in Germany greater than in the U.S for soccer
Hey could you give any tips on the seated juggles I'm on day 10 and seeing very little improvement in them. I don't think I have the technique right I can get 4 or 5 in a row at most alternating and really want to improve this
Hey Matt, so I am in summer going towards sophomore year I am turning 16 this November and I am like 5'7 do you think I will grow a lot more still? how tall were you at my age?
Amazing vid! quick question mat, ive just started lifting and ive seen improvement, how can i balance gaining weight and staying lean and fit? will it come naturally with playing soccer as well?
+EddyC55 You won't get too bulky overnight. Just eat more healthy food and when you reach a weight that you think is good, cut down your food slightly. If you ever find you get too heavy just don't eat as much and your body will adjust. It's very simple
Hey Matt , I'm in high school right now, I play for Xolos academy and I'm doing pretty good so far but how did you balance your grades because mine are kind of slipping and my parents said if you don't bring those grades up you can forget about soccer, so was it hard for you, did you have to struggle with grades to be the player that you are
hey Matt I've been weight lifting more on my upper chest and I've been getting very sore especially on my pectoral muscles and back. I am also a keeper. it hurts to train at practice since I'm sore. what do you recommend to bring the soreness down? what do you do?? thanks matt
Eat or drink a lot of protein, and also rest your muscles, you shouldn't be working on the same muscle group more than twice a week. hope this helps. 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight you have. so if you're 160 lbs ,try to eat or drink 160 grams of protein each day. or come close to that number.
protein has nothing to do with muscle soreness the soreness is most likely lactic acid, and not being used to the stimulus of weight training, foam rolling and stretching helps with recovering allowing blood to clear the biproducts of lactic acid, but in terms of the same muscle group more than twice a week completely depends on the volume and intensity your lifting at, i could do a 1 rep max squat everyday if i wanted too. Edit Btw im not saying theres anything wrong with the 1gram to 1 pound protein ratio pretty sound concept.
matt i have 2 questions about toe juggling. Because nobody ever use their toes for a first touch, so why should you juggle like that? and when i juggle with my toes, i've got a lot of backspin and you don't???
I use my the toe box to trap and settle balls out of the air all the time and so does every pro out there. If you're getting back spin your hitting to far on the opposite side of the ball, try to hit more underneath it.
Hey Matt,I want to know that how much do you earn as a footballer at 6th divison of german football and is it enough to for you to live properly.. cause I really want to know that playing lower level football can earn us a good living or not..?
+Mark Evence Just from the salary from a 6th division team is very tough to make a good living off of. My salary with that combined with Become Elite is a decent living though.
Hai matt........ i am from India we don't have people with much supportive nature... but i am still trying hard to improve my game.. whenever i get time i am 21 and i am studying...... that's why i cannot schedule my training sessions.....i practice on every Saturdays and Sundays how can i manage my sessions in other days in the week....can you help me out in these..?
Yo Mat! How does it feel being in a different country? There has to be a great sense of independence and a feeing of being on your own, but does it ever get boring or feel lonely?
+Caleb Anthony It's an amazing experience that I wouldn't trade for anything, but it does get lonely and I miss my family, friends, and girlfriend a lot. I've found it easy to make friends here though. Everywhere you go, people are always nice and friendly.
+double trouble soccer A little bit, yeah. Always try to get good fitting cleats, but for example a skilled player could still juggle hundreds of times with running shoes or basketball shoes.
Right now, no, because I haven't tested them in a while. But my All-Time maxes from back in college were: Bench: 275 Squat: 355 Deadlift: 345 (I'm not good at deadlift)
+Adam Reed I just managed my time well enough so I could always train, lift, and study sufficiently. I never completely stopped any particular area to focus on another.
If it helps you, do it. If it doesn't, don't do it. I just don't like wearing headphones and carrying a phone while I'm training, but don't mind it in the gym.
+Aggelos Greece in Germany, it was tough. I had to use the money I was making from Become Elite as well to survive, but now I can easily live off of my contract.
hey don't worry man. there are better oppurtunities to come!
For me I played JV because there were 5 seniors who played CAM (the position I play) They told me that I could get game time with JV or ride the bench all season with varsity. Yes, both haha. It's an awesome experience that I wouldn't trade for anything, but it can get hard being away from friends, family, and my girlfriend.
+JaredBrugler good question
+Caleb Anthony It's an amazing experience that I wouldn't trade for anything, but it does get lonely and I miss my family, friends, and girlfriend a lot.
I've found it easy to make friends here though. Everywhere you go, people are always nice and friendly.
Hey Matt, do you do any extra individual training during your dy other than the gym at 4 and footwork at 10?
+Ben Tyson yeah, almost every day I train something different
so you do more than what you show on these DITL?

What do you think you need to have to make it pro as a winger?
Cian0 Very Fit, good crossing with both feet, and fast.

Do you know your maxes for squat, bench and dead? If so what are they?
Right now, no, because I haven't tested them in a while. But my All-Time maxes from back in college were:
Bench: 275
Squat: 355
Deadlift: 345 (I'm not good at deadlift)
+Become Elite do you have a training program or do you sort of make it up? And is it specific to sport?
