Update: According to Sonos, the poor audio quality of the microphone has been improved in the latest firmware update.
Nice to see a major company this committed to reusing tech. For example, the microphone is clearly from a 1950s soviet radio.
I did not expect that much sarcasm at the end, but it’s valid 😮💨😂😂
and the rest of it from discarded airpods max.
450 usd with that microphone, which makes them useless for calls. Forget it
There are microphones from the Soviet era haven’t stopped working. The microphones on these are probably kicking the bucket after 3.
Excuse me, but I bet 50s soviet mic (Not soviet, but RE-20 is made since 1968) would sound better than these "noice cancelling to a fault" headphones. I bet it may have a software fix, cos people like ANC on these, and it needs good mics.
$450-€500 and you get that mic quality? Fuck Yeah!
BUT WAIT! In a year or two you’ll be able to pay _even more!_ for a “Pro” model with an acceptable mic.
Damn that mic is bad
Somethings odd here as I've seen other videos where the Mic is really good.
So bad on this review! I've seen other reviews where folks go out into a busy street and mic didn't seem that bad. But still, I've never experienced any headphone mic to be anything but garbage. Sad that Sonos couldn't do better.
get a corsair hs80 if you lookin for a good microphone... got a wired one for $50 and definitely dont regret it (wireless ones go for like $60-$80)
@@timothystrode3765 if the mic is DOA for them, it's part of the experience. Can't control that.
@@timothystrode3765 something else is odd. the frequency response looks completely different to other reviewers
Blink twice if you are being held hostage
Definitely feels like they made more cuts and he held back 😂
"if you like Apple-type sound" burn
2001: A Space Odyssey, Dr. Mario, CDs... James is really driving home the point, that he is "old"
based on that microphone I will be sticking with my sony xm4 and xm3
*That Mic is from 2001 with Dr. Mario-*
2001 Mic isn't even that bad. It's the compression that suck.
That mic is atrocious. Truly a calamity.
Edit: NO SHOT. These are $450 USD. HAHA that's absolutely wild. With that MIC?!
@@potion5682All you pay for is the brand, the headphones took around probably a week to make and tuning probably an hour, overall total dollar wise it's mostly around $20 at max to make, kind of wild how much mark up is on brands
@@potion5682there crap headphones. My sister had them for 1 day and hated the headphones so much she returned them and got some Bose ones and much better!
Yup. Came here specifically for that. Sounds worse than apple AirPods.. (the cheap ones with no ANC) That is typical first gen issues... they can always "iterate" and make it better.
all Bluetooth headphones have bad microphones
This is why sponsored episodes shouldn’t happen on this channel. Of course they put James on the sponsored review who is known not to be the most technical on his reviews and usually softballs. Then you end the video saying “pre order using our link” after we just seen the most mid overpriced product. This channel should be honest first impressions, not Unbox Therapy.
They are all sponsored episodes on this channel dude.
can't wait for Sonos issue an update that makes the headphone bricked and unuseable
I'm the same way with the ear cups James. I thought I could stand touching slightly, then got ear pain after like ten minutes lol. Total no go, gotta have the deep cups for sure. Thankfully Sennheiser is good about that, as is some cheaper companies
Yup had this problem for close to a decade with my Sonys because nobody made deeper earpads until recently. It was really bad too.
How long before Sonos brick them, so you have to buy the newest iteration?
no review on transparency mode?
how long do i have till they brick them too?
Them: "You be the judge"
UA-cam community: "Hold my beer"
That frequency response chart gave me Covid
They scooped the mids so fucking much you could ride a skateboard through that and get 1 million points in Tony Hawk 1.
@@VexxedSR This makes Harman IE seem like a good frequency response
the more I look at it the worse it gets lmao
It is interesting with the ears and ear cushions. You said it is a problem for you often but fine here. MKBHD said the same but his ears DID touch and was a problem with these.
Maybe a quick check in on ear sticky outness as an interesting factoid?
Where can I find the measurements in the video, want to use it for autoeq
You guys need to review the Heavys headphones. I would like to hear what you think
These run quite hot. I fear the condensation will ruin these unless they bring out other ear cups with a more breathable material
0:30 "i got white, i got black, what you want"
Immediately what i thought of 😂
On one hand, I really appreciate the honesty about the sponsorship. On the other hand, I’m not gonna watch a 12 minute commercial 😂
if only it was 12 minutes
At least you can look at Frequency Response graph which is objective and it looks pretty mid.
@@ugur3527Tell me a Bluetooth headset with better measurements. AirPods Max fall apart above 2k and Sony xm5 does not even come remotely close to harman
@@ugur3527 If you normalize this graph they have similar measurements to Dan Clark expanse which cost 4000$
Does the ANC work with a cable? I want ANC when I'm plugged into the airplane.
Works with usb c to usb c connection.
how long are they going to last?
These things look absolutely amazing, both design and quality. It’s a shame though that they are way too expensive. Maybe in a year or two I can buy them on discount?
I do like how thoughtful these headphones are in *most* areas, different color insides for left respective right ear cups, different shaped buttons, etc. That feels pretty forgotten today so I'm glad that there is still someone doing it. Though I hope that a gen 2 will fix that awful mic and let it connect via wifi to other Sonos devices and all those other little things that definitely need work
Biggest issue is that it doesn't just show up as another Sonos speaker in the app because they're not Wi-Fi capable I think the full functionality would have really sold them
Great ! a other advertisi-... I mean a other totally honest and not biased at all, paid product review
Wired lossless sounds incredible on these but why can’t I use Sonos app to change EQ when I do this? Have to rely on Apple Music eq and they aren’t customisable
will the Bluetooth work well if connecting to PC?
You guys should publish the frequency response graphs somewhere
I have a lot of Sonos devices but not sure if i'll ever switch to the headphones. The Apple airpod max does everything I want. Unless ofc you guys come up with a super comparison of both.
My Co-worker got his last night and used it while we were updating UCS FI's. Sounded decent in teams. Any real professional would use a SM7B into a Cloudlifter into interface anyways :P
I'm sure I could go to Guitar Center and find a set without Bluetooth that will sound just as good for less than half the price though. Expensive.
So an audio company finally made headphones huh...
Sonos has to be one of the most garbage audio companies out there. We have a Sonos One at work, a 300$ wireless speaker. It does not support bluetooth. You cant use it on a Windows machine for UA-cam or movie audio. You need to use an app to link with spotify (and youtube music iirc). It feels like a Juicero product that by pure luck didnt result in bankruptcy.
It's a joke how they can charge so much money, and speaking frankly, I've heard speakers that cost 1/3 have better audio.
Didn’t you just turn the base to max in the app is that why you’re saying the bass is very strong lol
I wish balance was more common for headphones! I have had hearing issues at points and would have killed to be able to adjust the volume for one ear
If they can't get a mic right, what does that say about the rest of the product?
And $450.. lol
A lot of complaints about electrostatic noises in the right earcup. I have used 3 units now and all of them are faulty. No reviewer is talking about it.
Because most reviewers are bought?
Is head tracking Distance a thing? if my phone is on my desk and i walk away, it gets quieter too :P
I would have liked to know what the FR was w/ ANC off. I imagine sonos would have had much more internal testing to reach an objective target better than that. That FR was pretty bad....
What are those headphone stands? Love the design!
i believe they are the called "banana hangers"
Sooo It's inferior version of xm4 for much, much more money. WILD!
After watching this video, watch MKBHD's review on the same product. U will see the difference between a sponsored review and an unsponsored review.
I fully expect that one switch that does everything to fail sooner or later.
500€, yeah, no. 😂
Got it yesterday and these are the most comfortable over-ear headphones I've ever owned. The main issues that I've had with my AirPods Max is the way the ear cup material feels on my ear/skin and after 15-20 minutes, my head feels like its being squeezed, plus the good looking designed mesh net over the head doesn't support well. I don't need the best sounding headphones but the most comfortable will do!
If you want comfort, get something from bose.
@@harmvzon Or even better, custom moulded IEMs.
Dan as audio guy please, I don't mind James I love him, but hallo Dan !
Fear their software and the ads.
I wanna Know wich products you all using in day to day use
These seem great! And then that mic drop... and the price appeared.
Please do a Full Review 🙏🏻 without any Sponsor bullshit
Take my Sonos on the Gonos
These don't seem bad, but there's no headphones that are better than my Skullcandy Crusher Evos (especially for the price comparison)
Why would I buy headphones from a company that will brick them in a year or two lol
If you had experience with Sonos bricking your items, why would you consider clicking on this video if you weren’t going to buy it anyways?
Great another sweat creating headphones
Tried these at work last week. Literally only good if you use Sonos speakers daily. Bose are far superior for the same price.
Mans got good taste in music. Dr Dre and mastodon ❤
i still like my soundcore q 30's
what's the opposite of a commercial? as in, this is a blueprint on how to deter customers.
Really love the vibe he brings to assumingly boring videos
Affiliate link doesn't seem to work😢
Well, just returned mine. To be honest I was very disappointed. Bass is lacking in a huge way and when paired with the ARC - volume at the highest setting is way way too low. ANC average at best, Transparency decent. I compared these side by side to Bose quiet comfort plus, Beats Studio pro and AirPods Max. My ranking - 1. Apple 2. Bose 3. Beats 4. Sonos.
He told “you be the judge” then why you people are angry at him? He did not manipulated anything or overhype anything… “you be the judge”. This is the best pay ad I have seen, no intention to skew your opinion about what you saw and hear 🤦🏻♂️
PU leather with constant contact with your sweaty head ... yeah, it's not going to last more than 2 years
Nice purple 👄😮 dude having a stroke
always knew james was a real one
these headphones look exactly like my Bowers and Wilkins PX8 without the beigh and silver. I was gonna exchange the PX8 for the Sonos since I have a full 7.1.2 sonos system in my house, but the sound stage on the PX8s are ridiculous for the price I paid for them.
$449 and the mic sounds worse than my $20 headset.
Sonos basically made the speaker with local music useless for a redesign of an app no one ask for and to ad in some overprice headphone with a niche usecase. Luckily I could role back the update on an Android tablet but on iOS I`m stuck with the crappy app. I never buy anything from Sonos again.
You need people who spend real time with these devices. This “unboxing” channels looks at a lot of products with immediate opinions in the video that never get covered with a review late.
Are they going to brick it when they decide you've had it long enough like other Sonos devices ?
You mean a 10-year product. Does any other company support a 10-year product without forcing you to buy a newer one to be technologically compatible? You always have a choice to avoid buying it.
I still use a play 5 from like 12 years ago. They don't brick
tell me you never owned a sonos without telling me you never owned a sonos.
I have the original play 1 and it's still working.
They literally have an app purely for old devices which still gets bug fixes and works
These headphones have similar measurements to 4000$ Dan Clark expanse (normalized)
Ah yes because everyone knows that copying a headphones sound signature that has completely different planar driver tech and is open back will sound great in a closed back plastic can.
@@VexxedSR Sounds way better than Sony xm5
I'm not watching any of this videos until you start the videos with PRICE the most important information that all the other information is related to !! 0/10 !
Another pair of headphones that you will have to throw away when the battery dies. Not having an audio jack on it, this should be illegal. I know these are "bluetooth" wireless, whatever headphones... But what do you do when you want to use them with 0 latency on other device that doesn't have bluetooth? Cable is still king for some aplications. They could do that, but they don't want to... The just want you to buy a new one when this stops working.
The EQ setting is a joke and they're asking very premium prices for a headphone that's largely plastic?
Hard pass.
they seem great except the price is high and the mic quality is bad. I like the features though.
They look good. Will be nice to look at them sitting in the store shelves with that price. ;D #poor
Minecraft Steve reviews headphone
Why is there so little communication from Sonos as to when they are going to fix app issues, I guees to busy promoting the headphones. Adding adverts in to the app makes it feel cheap from the get go, when will they realise that we don't want our expensive music system to feel cheap.. but that's the least of the worries with this new app.. 1 mouth adversary tomorrow of the new app, it's going well!?! I have never had such piece and quiet!
There’s a roadmap and been weekly communication on r/Sonos since the first week of the new app…😂
Actually they are communicating a lot on the subreddit
They could fix it overnight by rolling back to the old version.
@@shezaherrerogreat.... Did they roll back the trash update yet and apologize for asking the community to beta test their app?
Compelling hardware, but that mic is absolutely awful. I rarely take calls with my earpiece opting for my pixel buds pro just because the clear calling is so good, so kind of a deal breaker.
Losslessly via Bluetooth? You oxymoron 7:54
Lossless compression is a thing
$450 is wild… No thanks.
Got my Ace yesterday to replace my Bose QC2’s, absolutely love them. Set up was easy, tried them as pass through from my ARC watching the opening sequence of Top Gun Maverick on 4K Blu-ray Atmos and i was impressed!
The only disappointment is the case, I think that could have been better. I am sure that 3rd party alternatives will be available soon. Maybe they would fit in cases designed for AirPod Pro Max as the form factor looks similar?
All i want from Sonos now is the ability to add front left and right speakers to my Arc, Era 300’s and sub and my life would be complete…….
I don't want headphones, I just want my alarm clock function in the sonos app back...
It is still there. Finally found the link (on PC) at bottom right.
On phone App go into settings, Manage, Alarms.
@@a4away Awesome, thank you! Finally they added it back to the phone app.
Hate that brand. Nothing can be repaired. Even by Sonos themselves. Unacceptable
I love Sonos, but that is the most tragic microphone i have ever heard. The string between 2 plastic cups my daughter made the other nignt sounded better. Also, the potatoes i sometimes strap to my ears as headphones have a better microphone. They look nice though 👍
Thank you for the review 💗
Mic does not sound good to me with strong ambient noise. I get mine tomorrow but if the mic sounds that bad I will return it.
$450!! Ooooff. Sorry but that's a hard pass for me. My more "entry" level Sony ANC phones will probably sound just as good while coming in well below that absurd price tag.
Too much for my wallet !
I'll stick with my Bose quiet comfort. Best sounding and most comfortable headphone I've ever owned.
Your head seems large instead of medium
James here, I was using them on nearly the smallest setting :)
poor james, your head is perfect ok boo
This video is exactly why you should use 3rd party sponsors on review videos. You didn’t talk about the issues with these headphones. This is just an infomercial. You couldn’t even say they’re too bass heavy and clean of sound at the price range. Nor did you talk about how bad the mic is. Couldn’t show the battery testing you did, because it didn’t keep up with their claims. STOP ALLOWING COMPANIES TO SPONSOR VIDEOS TO THEIR PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Did you watch the video fully? They showed off the sound curve and he mentioned that if you like bass heavy then this is your go to. They showed off the quality of the mic as well. They weren't able to just outright bash the mic quality, but most people could tell that it's a very poor mic. It is scummy that they weren't able to show the battery test results, however. It would definitely be a lot better if they were able to fully show all of the negatives, but they still attempted to do their best without pissing Sonos off. I think they did a pretty good job at telling us that it's bass heavy and had a poor mic.
Ummm.
It's presented as an infomercial. They are upfront about it from the beginning. You, as a viewer, aren't being treated as a child. Ltt takes the money and let's you know it's sponsored. Then YOU can decide how much to trust the video.
It's not a review.
@@MrDissiuk then what is it?
@@herranton no, it’s presented like all their other reviews. Just they quickly blerb that it’s sponsored by the manufacturer of the product. And I’m not saying don’t allow those companies to sponsor videos. Just sponsor different videos
$450 for a pair of headphones who put all of their development into the design and none into the hardware... no thank you lol. I thought maybe $100 - $150
Hard pass on these. Sonos has completely destroyed the customer experience with the new app and lost our trust. Their unwillingness to compromise is truly baffling.
the old app, at least for older speakers was utter shit and took half the song to even display the correct name or album cover
@@mestreatfield7842 100 %, their app was never good. Maybe the new app will eventually become good.
Can you expand on this?
I LOVE the new app. It's so much more intuitive.
Usually when someone speaks on behalf of everyone they actually speak nothing but their own opinion
450 no thanks
Sound audio lossless doesn’t support iOS . Do you that ?
It's not lossless, it 384bit
Holy fuck, they are bad!
