    This is nuts - I found another video where someguy took a saw to the back - I thought it was a joke (and it was in that video) but I'm strongly considering taking a dremel to back and forgetting about the front. Thanks for taking one for the team @DIYeasy - you at least gave me a chance - I started to try the front but after a few minutes of zero progress, I came here and realized a frontal assault was indeed impossible. The dremel MIGHT work, although waterproofing is out unless one can sealed it again - still, better than just trashing the device.

      So just to update - I work at a fire department and I have a pretty steady hand - and it was either throw it out or give it a shot - I Dremel it out the back right around the battery - I did a pretty good job and didn't hit the battery but there's not really any way to pull it off without tearing off the connections to the battery and to the charging port. And these are super small wires as well - there is another UA-cam video where someone talks about wiring it up it's in Spanish but you can put on the subtitles, but you're basically working upside down as well. Because the connection to the power on the circuit board is facing the front.
      It's possible if you dremel off the entire section above the battery (instead of just around the battery) You might be able to access it but I tapped out this point. Good luck to anyone who tries us in the future.

    Changing the battery on the earlier 6" Oasis is way easier.
    I did it myself (battery cost $50AU!!) , but had to use a butter knife rather than the plastic tool that came with the battery to get the back off.
    Changing the battery should be possible on a device that costs $400AU.

    Arghhh I’ve one that’s cracked but still works, the newer one? frozen. It just froze one a page one day and won’t unfreeze, battery still seems to work so no ideas what to do.
    Amazon Kindle are a complete let down, these aren’t cheap & all they say is ‘ we can offer you a discount on your next one?’ i don’t want a discount i want the one i have to unfreeze! Why haven’t they got a repair department?!?

    This video makes me sad. I have an Oasis in my "Drawer of Dead and Obsolete Gadgets". It doesn't even need a new battery, it just locked up/bricked itself. It probably would reboot if I could completely disconnect power, but this is LITERALLY a disposable product. I bought a new Paperwhite which I use, but I really miss the Oasis side buttons. The ONLY advantage to my new, much cheaper Paperwhite is a USB-C connector. I actually would have bought a new Oasis if it was USB-C. My love/hate relationship with Amazon continues.

    My Kindle froze up a few days ago and the LED light that indicates when the battery is charging or whe it is fully charged is also dead. Does anyone know if the battery is completely dead if the LED should still work when trying to charge it?

  • @tessjarman5428
    @tessjarman5428 6 місяців тому

    I bought two of these and they were not cheap, Not of course including the cases that were also expensive. One of them the battery died within a 2 year period! Contacted amazon about a battery change and got Stiff Shite. I will not buy another kindle nor recommend them to anyone I know. Especially after watching this they are just made to sell and make a profit off. Yes I am pretty Peeved about it as the earlier models were great. Sorry about the sour grapes But!
    Otherwise great video thanks for the clarity, I won't bother trying to take the dead one apart.

  • @cirozorro

    Crazy, maybe more viable cutting from the back, but even that likely would need ot make a custom jumper cable to put in a new battery, sad...
    Also crack screen on Oasis means dead ,no way to separate that. Do wonder if you went much hotter if there is anyway you could get it to separate, liekly damage the elctronics at that level of heat.

    I really wish it were illegal for companies to make devices specifically so they cannot be repaired.
    I imagine the Scribe was already in the development stage when the 7 inch Kindles were being prototyped and they said, "Oh, by the way, make the battery as shit as possible, and make it impossible to change the battery. We've got something new in development, so we have to make sure people purchasing this device will need to replace it once the new tablet is ready to hit the market."
