Interesting to see opinions on Gotchard are all over the place. Japanese fans seem to love it, whereas overseas fans are more mixed. I definitely lean more towards the positive side but there are things that do annoy me. I'd say my issue with Gotchard is that it had a lot of ideas it wanted to do but couldn't do it within the 50 episodes they were given. They either needed to dial certain elements back to be saved for future projects or just abandon them. And it seems like Hotaro's dad was one of those saved for later. Personally would have preferred if the kings were saved for later and not just created just to give Geryon a reason to be the final boss. Hell I don't mind his goal since he's a mad man and turning things gold is part of alchemy. Maybe the show shouldn't have had 3 writers juggling different things. I wouldn't really call this one of the worst rider seasons. Since there are things here fans have enjoyed. Probably more one of the more middle of the road seasons.
Also known as: Kamen Rider Pokémon or Kamen Rider meets Pokémon. Of course in Live Action. I think the Chemys could be described as being carbon copies of the Go Onger mechs. “Characters” that have only one quirk/personality and just fill up the cast more and also just to sell toys.
I tried so hard to like Gotchard. I love most of the suits, the music is great, but man the plot was so generic. It doesn’t help that we were coming off of Geats but man, so many times they missed the mark. Valvarad should have been the main character. You could still have Gotchard but focus more on Valvarad. He was a much more compelling character when the show decided to focus on him.
I loved Gotchard, flaws and all. I honestly think it’s my favorite of the Reiwa seasons so far. I love it in the same way I love other good but flawed shows like The Dragon Prince and Supernatural (Seasons 1 to 5). As of now, my rankings of the Reiwa seasons are as follows: 1. Gotchard - All the main characters were well-developed and given a set of episodes in the spotlight, and it helped that there was a relatively fewer number of characters who became or stayed Riders. The Dark Sisters I think were the best group of villains we’ve had in Reiwa so far. In fact, all of the main villains were complex and/or entertaining; the Dark Kings possessed some of the more unique abilities I’ve seen Kamen Rider villains have. My only real gripe was that I feel the endgame around everyone regaining their memories should have kicked off around episodes 42-43 so that the ending would flow a lot smoother. That, and I believe the season had the opposite problem surrounding the primary villains who had the most screen time: Geryon and Gigist. I think Geryon had too much “time to shine”, being the midseason, summer movie, and final villain. It would’ve been more fitting if he was the second-to-last villain in the season who died at Supana’s hands in a 1-on-1 final fight. Gigist on the other hand, had too little “time to shine” in comparison and was pretty much discarded from the story after being defeated by Houtarou the first time. And it was a shame since he sort of “stole the show” for me in terms of the season’s main villains, with his creative usage of his mind-reading and teleportation abilities, imposing appearance and dark charisma, and the more serious tone and atmosphere he brought when he was the sole main villain. Once he forced Houtarou to kill Hopper1 to send the former into despair, I knew there was nobody else who could “top” Gigist as a villain in my eyes; he should’ve been the Final Boss. 2. Zero-One - This season was a great start to the Reiwa era, what with its creative forms, good handling of its large number of Rider characters, and great character development for both protagonists and villains. The show’s quality was all the more impressive considering that the pandemic probably made production a living hell for everyone. I had issues with things like the mishandling of Yua’s character and Fuwa’s traumatic memories that had driven his entire character till that point being fake. And of course, Gai’s little “redemption” and his little robot dog who deserves a better owner. It would’ve been MUCH more fitting if Gai died unrepentant and was killed by the Ark as payback for corrupting and driving it insane in the first place, his worst crime finally coming back to bite him. 3. First Half of Revice - The first 28 episodes had a very tightly-knit and smooth plot packed with compelling characters and intriguing mysteries. We got a good deal of focus on everyone’s favorite character and determined underdog Hiromi, who honestly outshone the three Igarashis on several occasions in terms of character and story. The reveal of Vail’s true identity and his personal connection to the Igarashis was undoubtedly Revice’s highest point. Coincidentally or not, this half of Revice was where the season’s best Love to Hate villain, Olteca, was present and active. That guy had it all: intelligence, casual ruthlessness, dark charisma befitting that of a cult leader, good looks, the ability to know when he needed to adapt and “up his game” in terms of power, and a tragic and unloving past that served as a direct contrast to the nurturing and loving Igarashi family. Unlike with Geryon, Olteca was a midseason season villain that I would have gladly taken as the Final Boss; his final motive and goal could have been to rip the Igarashi family apart out of sheer envy and spite for having what he never could. 4. Geats - I know this was a lot of people’s favorite Reiwa season. It’s not that I don’t LIKE Geats; I just couldn’t really get into it. Ace came off as too flawless most of the time, and Neon and Michinaga’s stories were FAR more interesting. I wish Ace had an “Evil Counterpart” character who was similarly skilled, cunning, selfish, and maybe even a little more charming and good at acting kind. Y’know, someone who served a role similar to what Basco to the Gokaigers was; someone to emphasize that despite being a “different kind of protagonist,” Ace was just as heroic as the Riders before him. Besides that though, the constant resets to the setting made it difficult to care about the stakes, and the Jyamato were wasted as villains. I was looking forward to the idea of one or more of them evolving without human models and forming their own villainous faction driven by quite justified hatred toward both the Riders and DGP for using them and their brethren as disposable game pieces. 5. Saber - This one really was a shame; it had a lot of potential with its fun themes of fairytales, knights, and free will/destiny. But it was a mess with some highlights here and there. It had way too many Riders with no idea how to handle all of them. The villains were underdeveloped and SEVERELY underutilized; it was clear that the actors were doing a lot of “heavy-lifting” and making the most out of thinly written roles. Coincidentally or not, the same guy who made this season also made Ghost. 6. Second Half of Revice - I still look back at this half of the season and think “WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL HAPPENED?!” You get a Driver, you get a Driver, everyone but their mother gets a Driver!!! No need to worry about the demon who burned down the family business and tried to kill you all when you were kids being back and out for blood. Bring Hiromi back into the action as a Rider, you say? Nah, let’s give his role to some random guy from a group that looks more like a cult than the actual cult. Uh oh, Daiji’s Diet Mitsuzane now. Let’s bring back the demon who tried to kill Daiji’s whole family using his body while he was forced to watch and call it a day. To call the villains of the second half “lackluster” would be a COMPLIMENT. We had a creepy old guy who took WAY TOO LONG to get killed off for good. Vail was reduced to a lapdog instead of being allowed to go full psychotic Yandere on his former “partner” and his family. And the all-powerful demon lord (oops sorry, I meant “alien” 🙄) had exactly two characteristics that consisted of “Demons Taste Goooood” and “Humans Bad People.”
It's a decent series for me, not too bad but not too good either. It has a good potential but kinda wasted on some parts of it. The problem with Gotchard, in my opinion, is the pacing of the stories. The series start with high stake stories that focused with the Chemies and 3 Dark Sister until Geryon reveal and defeat, with only a little focused on the side character. After that the tension is down a bit with the story about the side character like the village and romeo & juliet one, but after that it go up again with Gigist, go down a bit with Legend, go up again with the reveal of the other 2 Dark King and Geryon revival, go down a bit with Sabimaru and Kajiki story and go up again until the end. It's shown with the ending that feel rushed and the need of director's cut They should build the stories slowly at first, focusing on the chemies but also the side character first and then building into the big bad behind it until the end. It's a perfect show? No, there's no perfect show, either a show we like or not based on our own preference, but for me, Gotchard is an ok show
This was my first KR Season I saw Weekly as it aired. I wont say its perfect, but I had so much fun with this season. There were cool things there, and growth between all of the cast. Opening was PHENOMENAL and the second version even more so. Kajiki was cool. The resolution between Spanner and Hotaro in the final episodes. The form debuts were all cool. I now know how Drive and Ghost fans felt back in the day with how people have treated the show
Drive was more split opinion and even a lot of those that liked ghost perfectly understood why others didn’t and as a Wizard fan I can associate with that feeling
There's already a lot of talk about the quality of the show, so I'm not going to focus on that and instead talk about how I really love the monster designs. The Malgam's theming of being the Chemy essentially trapped/ensnared onto the body I think is really cool and fits with the idea of the Malgam's being the result of human malice fusing with Chemies. I just really like designs that fits with the general motifs of a show (Zi-O's kanji/time Armors are a highlight, sue me), and the Malgams fit in as toxic relations/reactions (definitely reading into it too much). Some notable Malgam suits include the Moon Malgam (arm formed from sleeping guy's drool), the Mammoth Malgam (cool tusk arm), Gorilla Malgam (stuck screaming), Kyubi Malgam (more peaceful appearance fitting with its subversion), Angel Malgam (literal crucifixion), Saber Tiger Malgam (also extremely painful), and the Hawk Malgam (bird strapped on back making the claws a head, cool concept for a monster!).
Boy oh boy this show. There are things that I do like: Ms Kyoka, the arc where spanner becomes Kamen rider Valvarad, Hotaro actually killing Hopper 1, and the suits in this show are good. But between the inconsistent writing, plot lines that don't go anywhere, Rinne's actress(although she got better), Geryon has a terrible motivation, and too many side characters for our heroes that don't add anything. Concept of the chemies are fine but too much "power of friendship" in this show surrounding them and Hotaro; especially in the finale when he breaks free from the gold because of that. Not as bad as saber, but boy this show feels like generic rider cake that taste like it came from a box mix with no icing.
Every idea in kamen rider feels forgotten when the same idea is mentioned again, spanner has the powers of the king? Nothing is addressed on how. Hotaro having a past with the chemies? Literally nothing. Atropos caring about gideon? Says nothing when he dies. Hotaro uses forbidden alchemy? Doesn’t matter at all. Every final form feels underwhelming because there was no buildup. The alchemy theme literally doesn’t add anything to the story.
Oh and this is the worse base final form, the others made somewhat sense outside of just the fact it’s a costume copy, this one (same with rainbow) he used some random “dattebayo” power up
I just can't get over how basic the characters are. Hotaro is a stock Shonen protagonist, Rinne basically becomes a nothing character after becoming a Rider (which is also weird that it happens in a movie),I actually like Spanner but he does become a complete jobber and his heel turn towards the end came completely out of nowhere. Geryon's plan was so ridiculously silly that when he first said it I was CONVINCED that there had to be more to it. Nope! He just wants to make everything gold 😂 Also, the pacing was atrociously bad around the last 3rd or 4th of the series. All the way into the 40s, they had 3 separate 2-parter stories centered around side characters after barely doing anything with the other 2 Riders. I won't lie and say I didn't enjoy Gotchard. It had plenty of fun moments. But looking back at the characters and the story it was kind of a hot mess, and it's very rare for me to walk away from a Rider series not finding a _single_ character that I'm a huge fan of. I think it's the weakest of the Reiwa Era IMO. Fortunately, Gavv had a very strong first episode for me so hopefully I'll like this series more.
I didn't watch this and I am glad that I didn't bother with it. The only character that anyone will remember will be Legend and that's only because of clips on Twitter. Legend is what Sougo from Zi-O should have been- pompous, over-the-top, and borderline narcissistic. Hopefully, Gavv will be interesting because I haven't been impressed with any of the Reiwa-era KR shows except for maybe Zero-One.
I didn't like Gotchard all that much... This is the first Kamen Rider series I dropped since Ghost. After listening to this. I really don't regret dropping it.
This could have been Kamen Rider meets Fullmetal Alchemist, but instead was the messed up bastard child of Pokemon, Harry Potter, Fourze, Wizard, Saber, Goldmember and everything in creation.
Clotho was basically the only character I cared about. Hate the way she died in the final episode. Also, Wizard is WAY better than Gotchard snd at least there was story in Drive's first twenty-five episodes.
This show just felt generic to me. It didn't grab me like Revice or Geats did. Just felt like a blatant toy advertisement that would be disrespectful to even kids.
This “Show”….almost made me lose hope in Reiwa Kamen Rider, after how good Geats was.. hated everything about this show. Just terrible acting overall, and the lead was INSUFFERABLE. Worst season since Skyrider
Kamen rider gotchard to me is alright....average at best. There are things i like and but some just outright boring. Some ideas or important plot brought up too late or didnt brought up at all. If only keiichi hasegawa took the driver seat all the time this could be an amazing series. Kamen rider gotchard probably will be the kamen rider ghost of reiwa
Gotchard as a whole show was alright. Nothing really exciting or interesting happens in the story or the characters. The one thing I really liked were the Legend episodes.
I made the right decision of dropping this show early and saved my time It's weird how Reiwa rider and sentai are on two ends of spectrum - sentai has been good and rider sucks (outside of Geats)...
I Will Tell You The Truth I Hated Gotchard The Last Episode I Watched Was The Two-part Zyukunpire One Than After That I Quit The Whole Show Entirely Just a Thought Gotchard, Saber And Revice Should Get Together. My Favorite Riders From This Era So Far Is Zero-one And Geats Can't Wait To See What Gavv Has Up It's Sleeve.
I've been watching clips and any story moments cause I was never really committed to Gotchard. I'm really glad I didn't. I've literally been screaming at how this is worse Full Metal Alchemist, and I just am really scratching my head how pacing, character development, and general story structure get so screwed for toy presentation. It's the worst alchemy rider and is up there for the worst mainline rider. I equate this to Nininred as the most annoying Shonen protagonist. It's that bad.
@@impopularmano3394 Damn bruh, it's cuz Kabuto is one of my all time favorite Rider shows so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one fr
What we expected: Kamen Rider meets Fullmetal Alchemist
What we got: Kamen Rider meets Pokemon
Which, on paper still doesn't sound to bad to me. It was just done terribly.
@@RiderSentaiKamenger-hu5ylYou know I think Gotchard would work better if was a Sentai instead of Rider.
Geez. Gotchard. This is the show I had the most hope for ever. I've never been more let down. Pretty much the opposite of how I felt watching Geats.

-Kamen Rider Legend (not surprised if he takes over Decade's mantle in future Rider media)

-Gotchardriver, it's so rudimentary without Attach Units
-Valvarad is essentially Buffa as a jobber.
-Dread has the similar issues I had with Demons from Revice.
-The tease of Houtaro's Dad resulted into nothing.
-Ultima Steamhopper, another Extra Final Form being a glorified Base Form (How many times we times we have to teach you this lesson, Toei?)
_FINAL VERDICT:_ I think Zeo Agito is right, the season felt like a corporate cash grab. Not bad compared to Saber but not great for what Reiwa has to offer.
Gotchard is a joke

To me it should have keiichi hasegawa alone driving the series instead of 2 writers plus one inoue blooline
At least, the Engines gave you a reason to keep watching Go-Onger. I haven’t seen Gotchard, but I hope it's not completely boring.
So happy I dropped the show early, it’s sad that Kamen rider is struggling. Love Geats, ok with zero-one but that’s really been it.
Not me listening to this knowing full well I didn't watch anything pass episode 1 lol. Thanks for saving me the hassle of watching the show
The only Gotcha that I need in my life is the Gotcha from Goseiger. Which is ironic because the Gosei Knight voice actor is the voice of Gotchadriver.

I hope Gavv is okay. The gimmick in episode one is a bit much for me...but maybe the writing will be good...
This could have been Kamen Rider meets Fullmetal Alchemist, but instead was the messed up bastard child of Pokemon, Harry Potter, Fourze, Wizard, Saber, Goldmember and everything in creation.
Now gaim is forgiven
And to think we couldn’t go any lower than Saber
Clotho was basically the only character I cared about. Hate the way she died in the final episode. Also, Wizard is WAY better than Gotchard snd at least there was story in Drive's first twenty-five episodes.
That’s very understandable actually
Gotchard is like Gaoranger and kyuoruger
Honestly, Gaoranger is a lot better than Gotchard will ever be for me personally IMO
I think we need no more card based riders.
I'm guessing you don't like Pikachu then
I made the right decision of dropping this show early and saved my time
It's weird how Reiwa rider and sentai are on two ends of spectrum - sentai has been good and rider sucks (outside of Geats)...
Man yuuya takahashi carried the reiwa era huh
I've been watching clips and any story moments cause I was never really committed to Gotchard. I'm really glad I didn't.
I've literally been screaming at how this is worse Full Metal Alchemist, and I just am really scratching my head how pacing, character development, and general story structure get so screwed for toy presentation.
It's the worst alchemy rider and is up there for the worst mainline rider. I equate this to Nininred as the most annoying Shonen protagonist. It's that bad.
I'm ready for the hate
Me Too.
gotchard is on my top 5 for least favorite kamen rider shows that i've seen so far, including with kabuto, kiva, decade and wizard
You didn't like Kabuto? 🙏🥲
@@Agito4774 no, i hated soji tendo and most of the characters on that show
@@impopularmano3394 Damn bruh, it's cuz Kabuto is one of my all time favorite Rider shows so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one fr
@@Agito4774 to each their own, i myself like ryuki, even though for some reason the japanese seem to dislike that show
@@impopularmano3394 Ryuki is also a Rider show that I really like as it's a high A tier in my eyes for sure 🔥🐉
Gonna make this joke one last time: Gotchard is one letter away from the name of a Kamen Rider porn parody.
Gotchard will remain a joke in history
The storytelling has zero direction.
If only the show have one writer and that would be keiichi hasegawa , it would have been great
