There are many things that Gotchard needs fixing, but here's a list of things they could have done to fix this hot mess. For one, the Chemies in this show should have been less like a Pokemon (in which you collect them all) and more like Digimon Tamers, whereas the monster and their partner work together and grow stronger through their bond. You keep the card-capturing element, but it's less about needing to collect 101 chemies. Instead, the cast aims to protect people from invading wild chemies from the Ouroboros realm. Some have their own means of doing so (Houtaro tries to resolve things peacefully, while Spanner is more ruthless), and the end goal is to ensure the people's safety. Another thing that needs fixing is how the Chemies function. Rather than limiting them all transformation, each Chemy offers unique power when activated. Some Chemies grant ability, others can summon weapons, and their ability can be enhanced depending on the combinations. They even do something similar to Kamen rider Blade. While drivers are responsible for the transformation, their weapons activate the cards' powers. In fact, at least give Majade her own unique weapon at the very least. Now to the transformation of the Riders, first off, scraps the wild forms. They're gaudy CGI monstrosities that suck away the budget, and also, instead of making Gotchard forms all fusions, instead they're mix matches like Build and W. The main difference with Gotchard is that when he finds the perfect match form, they have the same color, symbolizing the Chemies' ideal balance with one another. Gotchard can use other combinations, but they're unstable and will end up exhausting Houtaro's body if used too long. This will emphasize the importance of finding the right combination for the forms. Most importantly, Houtaro won't just get these forms out of the sky or because he made a speech about friendship. Houtaro will have to prove himself to the Chemies through his actions. Instead, it is facing his fear or fighting while untransformed. When he finally earns the Chemies' trust, they grant him their power to combine, which can be symbolized by a face appearing on the back of the cards, symbolizing he now performs a transformation. Those are just a few things I would fix in Gotchard, but there is still much to fix in this show.
How I would fix Gotchard #1. Have Spanner being the lead (change series name from Gotchard to Valvarad) but have him be a new teacher who has to gain respect from his students. #2. Swap Hotaro and Rinne's personalities. #3. Remove Geryon and have Minato be the main villain. #4. Remove the Chemies and have the show be the Kamen Rider equivalent of Fullmetal Alchemist. #5. Have Sabimaru be Dread for a little longer. #6. Have Legend be the secondary rider. #7. Remove Wind and have it be Rinne's final form #8. Have Atropos stay evil from beginning to end. #9. Don't bring up an important plot point and then drop it immediately.

While I initially didn’t mind the Chemy collecting, it should have been resolved before Platinum Gotchard’s debut, thus giving more story beats time to shine.
How I would fix Gotchard 1- Chemys should be a TCG for the alchemist academic school system. Their levels need to be their power levels 2- The alchemy should be sort of like black clover/mha. Everyone should know about it. 3-debut Majade way sooner! 4-have Hotaro make the correlation between cooking and Alchemy far sooner than the final form episode. 5-Hotaro realistically isn’t bad as an archetype but he didn’t earn anything, he never really face adversity. 6-The 3 sisters should’ve been 3 kings because they just seemed there. 7-give Valvarad an actual reason to dislike Hotaro 8- have the parents be more involved.
I didn't care about any of the characters, so here's a way to fix that: Throw the villains out and keep only the cards going around causing chaos. That way we save the time wasted with the sisters and the gold guy, and invest it on making the villains of the week direct connected to the main characters. Sounds similar? Well, it's literally just Blade.
Already a MILLION MILES better than whatever Gotchard was, the “Competition arc” was the only badly done part, and Zero-One had Covid to deal with, so I personally let it slide because overall, it’s a great series…. And the Actors at least could act

Making Spanner the main character and having be a teacher’s assistant would fix one of my other problems with Gotchard that you haven’t talked about . Which is there was no real big reason to make the organization a school. The school part of it felt more like afterthought (which honestly I can describe half of the problems with this season) and having him be that would make the school part of it be more there.
When he got Iron Gotchard they Hines at the fact that he has to use a darker version of alchemy to forcibly transmute SteamLiner they should have expanded on that. Have Hotaro be so consumed with the idea of helping the chemies that he resorts to whatever means necessary
Add more of the alchemy element during fight scenes especially on houtarou, the lack of usage of alchemy kinda bothers me sometime, and have one writer driving the series that is hasegawa
One of my biggest problems with gotchard is that nearly all charactrer motivaitons are shallow. The biggest offenders of this are Houtaro and Geryon. Other than wanting to be a hot-shot alchemist (which we barely see any development for and he just learns it when getting rainbow gotchard without any fanfare for that occasion just the form), Houtaro wants a world where chemies and human can coexist. This isn't a problem, 01 has a similar concept, but we don't even know why specifically he wants to do that. "Oh, he met Hopper1 when he was a child!" Doesn't he have amnesia from that? Even if that fact was relevant, there was no catalyst to make him deeply believe this. Then you have Geryon who wants the world to be encased in gold. Why? "Humanity loves gold, so I'll make everything into gold!" Okay, but when and why does he think like this? What happened to make him think that turning everything into gold would make people happy or grateful? The problem with these characters is that their thought process is non-existent and completely surface-level. The basically have their thesis statement without any evidence of even people to back-up their claims (before the show starts at least). To fix this, I rewrote the 3 main riders to make their dynamics function way better: The best way I feel to rewrite Houtaro is to make him a competent jack-of-all-trades but master-of-none, making his want to find a "Gotcha" more intriguing. Make it so Hopper1 and Steamliner are more integrated in his past to where even with amnesia the gut feeling of chemies being helpful instinctively compel him to befriend all chemies and have to master the art of chemistry. This could then lead to him wanting others to find their "Gotcha" because he knows what its like to be lost in life. Take his encounter with Clotho when they both make it out of the labyrinth. Instead of sounding confused on her new ideal to defeat him, instead have him begrudingly encourage her because she had finally found a "Gotcha" to work towards. These tweaks would make Houtaro a much more barable main character and one we could actually look up to, instead of a bumbling idiot that stumbles his way to success. And instead of screaming "GOTCHA" at the top of his lungs, he confidently says it in a cooler manner. Rienne is close to a well written charater, but they just stopped caring at times, making her feel irrelevant to the overal story. Make her powers more clearly tied to her heritage by having her lineage have a high aptitude of alchemy at the cost of needing to recharge longer than other alchemists, making a deeper connection between her, her powers, and her father. Make that latent ability make her not want to use it because of how absent Fuga has been in her life. She limits herself, but is still seemingly confident. That would be the case until Houtaro gets access to Fire Gotchard, and she starts to feel forgotten and irrelevant. Someone who never lived up to her full potential. Then, at her lowest, Houtaro makes her realize her then hidden appreciation for her father and her want to be an alchemist that can protect everyone. Only then does she become Majade. And for the rest of the show, she would actively be seeking for her father to better control her powers, and subsequently give more explanation of how Fuga's powers work. Spanner doesn't need much. With the rewrite of Houtaro, their rivalry would be more serious, and his distain is merely from how someone who was less skilled in every aspect than him is now slowly overcoming his ability in alchemy. With a better elaboration of what the black flames mean and a early presentation of the concepts presented in his for debut episodes, his high points would hit harder, and his presence would not outshine tha main characters as much.
Funny you guys mention Ultraman Z director because Kiyotaka Taguchi the said director actually direct some episode of Gotchard. Those were episodes that focus on Renge and Sabimaru.
My fix is to make this series into Full Metal Alchemist x Yugioh GX. Hoturo would have a reason to be ecstatic about Chemies since they are the trading cards among the students who make them and having known Hopper 1 all his life which belonged to his absentee dad aka The Alchemist of the Dawn aka Daybreak Gotchard. Nigigo would be the one he does make for himself later to become Rainbow Gotchard when reunited. Already Riders are Rinne and Spanner but he is combined with Minato as one character being an early graduate student with a tragic past becoming the youngest teacher in the academy's history. They would be in search of Majade's father as tasked by the association to bring him in as a traitor which would be the dynamic struggle between following the rules or doing the right thing for our female secondary. The Gotchadriver Fuga stole would house a piece of the Philosopher's Stone made by the Abyss King and are together the key to his release but the 101 cards would be what re-seal the door to darkness and transmute it into that of light in the end. The Dark Sisters are good as they are being homunculi but Atropos will eventually age up and become the final villain killing the first-quater antagonist Glion who made the sisters to replace the family he lost chasing the eternal realm of El Dorado.
Well for starters Ultimate Steamhopper can be taken out back and shot. If anything, replace it with Fire Gotchard cause then Fire Gotchard can mean something. Secondly combine Platinum and Rainbow Gotchard instead of being full suit upgrade Rainbow can be a power upgrade (I like the Brothers as it gives the Chemies something to do.) Third. If you're going to make Supana job so much make it be Supana's fault not the Valvaradrivers we already have proof in show cause when Lachies get the original suit she kicks ass while Supana falls behind in the upgrade. If you have to keep the mind wipe element change how it works. I don't like how they can just wave their hands and erase the problem. The only other time Alchemy was used like this was when Gilion used it to force his students to kill each other.
Hotaro is honestly my personal big reason for not liking and dropping the show so early on. When it come to any story, the characters are the aspect I most look forward to, because they're the people who should keep my investment. Hotaro of all the Reiwa era protagonists, to me at least, is the most flat and nothing character. He's just generic and boring and as a result, there's not anything for me to get invested in. He's a mish mash of tropes (the missing Dad, power of friendship, youthful hero), but doesn't do any of them well. Aruto's development may have come very late in Zero One, but it was still well done and Aruto was still a fun and likeable protagonist. Touma, whilst annoying, still had a clear personality, being optimistic and having some form of tie to the concept, even if it wasn't explored well. Ikki and Vice's dynamic and growing friendship was so much fun and they had, to me anyway, the cleanest character arcs of the Reiwa protagonist. And Ace was a nice breath of fresh air from the ones we had previously, having been a Rider longer than any of the other main Riders and an air of mystery that kept me into Geats, which I didn't enjoy much after the second half. Hotaro doesn't have any of the qualities that make someone a character. He's just a stand in for the main protagonist, than FEELING like he should be. Even Shoma, despite having only just debuted, has so much more personality and life to him than Hotaro

First thing to do - write a story, not a toy commercial. Don't do a Schumacher Batman movie.
