The box is not functional u need a half inch drive to loosen it then the 3/8 drive n a ratchet u are never going to be like pass 1/4 drive when under the hood

depending on what you are working on ... I rarely use a half inch drive so this set is perfect for me. I do have another set with 1/2in but again, it's rarely used. Most of my work is 3/8 and then a little 1/4
So for me, and perhaps others, the box is functional but again it depends on what you are working on.
