- The Human Face of Covid-19-New York City
(please share)
New York City-which has been the epicenter of the coronavirus in the world these past two months-is a city of human beings-each with a name- an age-each with a life experience-each with a family that cares about them-and all, like each of us, are much more important than statistics, peaks, flattened curves-they are the heart and soul of this moment-and the heart and soul of our moment.
While these images and stories are from New York-they are in solidarity with every country in the world and every person in the world-all who have been in the middle of this war-truly a World War with an invisible enemy. Our human family worldwide finds itself in the middle of this crisis. This visual diary is also, our story.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis in NYC, I have gone out most days, with my camera and notebook, always keeping at a careful social distance with all people, wearing a mask and gloves, and return to where I stay, alone. It is essential that at this moment in our collective life, that the stories of so many heroes and victims, of all dimensions, be documented, helping to bring us together now, and for memory, forever. With love.

New Yorkers are New York - without it is just an impressive skyline and empty streetscapes - thank your for documenting the city's indestructible humanity
My compliments, a splendid symphony of humanity, without constructions or constrictions.
Think you, Peter. I am moved beyond words. 100 years from now these photos will show the world what it was like way back when.
Just beautiful. Photographs you can feel.
My home for 18 years, I am now in SF. Midway through these photos, I burst into tears. This, people, is real photography, real commitment, real artistic empathy. Thank you, Peter.
My soul was touched by your your video. As I watched it my face became wet with tears. You have captured so very much with your brilliance with your camera and the beauty of your soul. I will gift your video to others and watch it many times myself. Thank you. It is truly a privilege knowing you. I look forward to more hours with you.
Un grand merci Peter pour ces instants magiques d'humanité
The art of photojournalism at its best , thank you PETER
Thanks, Peter. Wonderful visit to NYC, my hometown and birthplace. These beautiful photos are touching and somehow comforting. Much appreciated.
So Poignant and beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.
A meditation on the greatest people in the greatest city in our nation. Thank you, New Yorkers, for standing strong, for reaching out and caring for each other. We all learn from you!
BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTBREAKING.
Thank you Peter... I am certain these images and the stories that they tell will be seen in the years to come as some of the most important record of how humanity was affected by the pandemic
Oh my, Peter. These expressions of love, captured by your camera, can now capture our souls. I’m in tears. Wonderful, joyful tears. Thank you and bless you, my friend.
These images are beautiful Peter, simply beautiful. ❤️
Magnifique, bouleversant...Merci!
Just pure magic, very powerful images. Thank You
Participated in yesterday's Leica #StayAtHome series with Tom and Mr. Turnley. Very nice treat. Thank you Mr. Turnley (and Leica).
As I watched, I could not help thinking how each of these photographs is so vivid and dramatic that it could easily serve as a book cover. Also, how things are always better--or worse--in New York than almost anywhere else. What a price these people are paying.
Emozionante, stupendo!
Thank you Peter
Beautifully done.
It was hard to see the last minute thru the tears. I am a CITY girl living up in NH now but my heart is and always will be in NY with my sons and my brother. My broken heart. Empty Grand Central Station. Who could ever have imagined. But what I loved most about your extraordinary photographs is that you also captured JOY along with the trauma. I could see the smiles in the eyes above the masks. It reminds me to smile above mine, as much as I possible. Thank you so much for sharing this. You are a treasure. Thank you thank you thank you.
Such love for humanity behind that lens. Thank you Peter.
Very nice documentary of emotional pictures congrat.

You have captured the mood of New Yorkers. Very few smiling eyes, but many anxiety filled faces. Thank you Peter.

Grazie mille P🍃t🍃!
Wow. Just beautiful. Thanks Doug and Peter.
Peter - I am normally in New York every three weeks, but I have been six hours north in rural Vermont since this bizarre episode began. I found it hard to imagine what was going on. No longer.. Your photos make it so real. The black and while sets the somber tone. The imaging is terrific, the portraits so haunting. There is a history book in utero here. Keep up the great work.. T

Beautiful document on these times we all hope will be soon behind us! Fabulous images. I also very much like the choice of music and the low-key high-contrast rendering. Both fit perfectly the story. Nice to see you included two self-portraits Peter! 👏👏👏🍷

Of course there are tears in my eyes. I don't know what the music is, but it is beautiful. These images remind me of how good we can be when push comes to shove.

Great stuff my brother. Keep it coming...
I just found your email and the link to your video. Somehow your email had gone to my spam folder which I rarely look at. I knew that Ken had heard from you but I had not taken time to read what you had written him. We have been much too overloaded with our research on Covid-19 and trying to stay sane. I'm glad that I found your email!!!
THANKS BHEAPS
