This got me thinking that Black & White 2 really are the best "third" instalments of a Pokemon generation. They went so hard that they had to make it a full-blown sequel
@Venemofthe888 yeah dude I know, that's why I put "third" in inverted commas. If you're familiar with the game's production, they began as a third installment and then expanded beyond the scope of a third installment and became an entirely distinct title
The only real problem with Emerald is not being able to fight Courtney. The other 3 Admins are there so she should have been there. Make her a miniboss in the Magma base and/or in Mossdeep Space Center or something.
Even though I know it's not being referenced in the way I'm implying, having The Police being named that lead to some pretty hilarious lines in this video, ngl. Truant police taking no action and being weak to fighting, huh?
It's a happy day when ji_mothy posts a new video, doubly so when it's on my favorite pokemon generation! Also, since starting Metaphor: ReFantazio, I've been keeping in mind your analysis videos and been intentionally playing into the design developers intended for players. They "conveniently" give a you a class with strike attacks and holy magic, perfect against the undead enemies weak to it in the first major dungeon. Keep up the great work!
Always glad for another Mothy video. I never really thought about it much in gen 3, but there really isn't that much of a difference across rs to e. Very interesting to think about
The Move Tutor in Mauville City is the only possibility to teach Lickitung the move Rollout in the third Generation. It can evolve with this attack and levelling up when it gets transferred in the fourth generation. (Swinub can learn Ancient Power trough cross-breeding.)
There is a Lickitung in XD you can catch and once purified has Rollout in its moveset. In fact a few pokemon who evolve in Gen 4 that are in XD have moves that help them evolve when transferred.
I think another thing that gets missed with Emerald is that it fixes a few glitches (as well as adding some) like the roamers IV's getting fixed so if you want to frontier cheese with a decent latios you can. Additionally, the frontier battle facility also suffers from a IV glitch that works against you, making it more difficult. I think players look fondly on emerald mainly because it essentially makes the frontier a theme park for harder content. I don't think you mentioned it, but Emerald was the start of abilities having out of battle effects which in my opinion is another great change. For me I actually prefer the UI of Emerald, the text isn't spamming all caps like R/S did. I also just have a bias for emerald as I got it as a gift from my mum. :) Great video
For real! Once I had decided Marill was canon for the run, I just looked for ways to make it interesting and huge power/rollout is the best I found. Waterfall could have done work
Munchlax was teased for gen 4, but it was 3 years after Emerald's release so it may not have been developed yet. It was featured in Pokemon Dash (an obscure racing game for the DS) and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (an awesome Gamecube game where all of your battles are double battles and you can steal some of your opponent's pokemon that have turned evil rather than catching them in the wild, mostly).
One of the cosmetic changes that always bothered me in Emerald is the Zigzagoon following the Professor. I mean, Poochyena is known to attack people BUT ZIGZAGOON? But changing the Machokes for Vigoroth doing the house moving was clever
Third editions were always about the stealthy changes. They look like they really have nothing to offer, but if one actually looks at a changelog, there is a lot there for each.

yeah, it's complicated. I would have expected them to release Emerald before FRLG, but given they chose to release it after, then I DO think they should have aimed higher, or just not bothered releasing it at all and focused energies into the next games. They don't need our sympathy for _choosing_ to release a different game in between, it wasn't some inescapable burden :/ thanks for the comment!
@@ji_mothyI will say that this game is definitely better than the other two by far as the battle frontier is something to actually train and try for endlessly.
They literally programmed four more battle engines (Ruby and Sapphire only has two) just for the battle frontier. It's literally half of the game. Making a video about Emerald and then just glancing over what actually makes Emerald Emerald is a super reductive disservice
