- We've already seen the Victory shooting some bots, but now we'll see it fighting players. And it's no longer the biggest fish in the pond either, as in this video you'll get to see two Santisimas in action for the very first time! (tho in other players' hands. Grumble grumble ;))

1st rate - most powerful ship, usually 100+ guns carried in three decks. Powerful but uncommon as they were expensive to crew and hard to handle. The Victory and Santisma were both 1st rates.
2nd rate - quite rare, only usually seen in Royal Navy. Three decker that lacks the power and presence of a first rate but is just as unwieldy. Usually only used as an admirals flagship in far off colonies.
3rd rate - Two decker. Most common warship in all European navies. Best know example is the '74s', named after the 74 guns they carried and formed the bulk of Britain's, France's and Spain's navies.
4th rate - 1 or 2 decks. Originally older ships with not enough firepower to be called a third rate, but in later years they started cutting a deck off 3rd rates and making them extremely powerful super-frigates instead, these new 4th rates, although technically frigates, were versatile enough to be powerful enough to sail in the line of battle AND be used independently. If you ever watched the series 'Hornblower', the 'Indefatigble' was a cut down 4th rate. The famed American ship Constitution was technically a fifth rate, but only because the Americans arranged thier guns differently to Europeans - the Constitution was in terms of firepower and protection easily the equivalent of a forth rate.
Ship of the line of battle, Lineship, or later on Battle-ship - a ship that could be used in the standard battle tactics of the day. Only ships 4th rate or better were permitted to sail in the line.
Galleon - A heavily armed merchant ship of the era. In the early days, there were few purpose built warships so many navies relied on pressing galleons into service.
Man o war - In the high era of sail, meant the same as ship of the line of battle, however man o war was used earlier as well to refer to any three masted cannon armed ship. Probably the best way to describe the term would be to say it is the equivalent of the term 'capital ship' today - it does not refer to any particular ship, just to the most powerful ships afloat at the time.
5th rate - 30/40 gun frigate, single deck.
6th rate - 20-30 gun frigate, single deck.
Line-ships were 1st to 4th rates, frigates were 5th and 6th rates, anything else was 'unrated'.

ramjb How do you counter a move like the one at 20:45. I mean it becomes apparent that they are going for a rake and that you are going to end up with your unloaded side facing him but there doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it.
The amount of raw power whenever you fire off a full broadside of double shot is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen in a game. Oh, and the thunder-like echoes like 2-3 seconds after somebody shoots is cool too. I definitely want to play some Naval action now.

I love that barely audible ''ear ring'' every time you fire off a full volley from one of your sides. Really makes you understand just *what* the hell you unleashed on the poor sucker on the recieving end.

After watching the first Naval Action video from Sidestrafe I soon hopped to your channel and after watching a bunch of your videos ordered the game.
Having tons of fun so far with trying to put your lessons to practice in the light ships. Not always as easy in a 1v1 but had a few matches with 15 to 20 lights in pvp and that was super.
Thanks for putting the time in creating videos and I am looking forward to more!
watching these videos just brings to mind the sheer bravery and guts that the sailors who served on warships like these showed, i mean facing off against an enemy broadside and delivering your own must have been pretty devastating in reality not to mention some of the really nasty wounds caused by flying metal,chain and splinters. but hell yeah the Victory is certainly a sight to behold, what a way to project power on the high seas ;p

So much respect for the skill needed to play this game, wonderful and thrilling to watch but I know this old mans limitations.

Even if the biggest you can sail is a Snow, like I can in a 16!!!man battle I was in tonight. Largest I've been in so far.
It's always more fun to join the "normal" pvp then the one for smaller ships & it gives way more eyecandy.

The most epic battle i have seen and also the hms victory you sank was epic it was worth watching over and over again.

Looks like the game of my dreams is finally being made!
REALISTIC multiplayer battles in the age of sail! Way to many of them are too arcadey or rely too much on random number generators. I'm going to quite enjoy seeing long drawn out battles that don't involve gank squads using overpowered gear and magic combat powers.
I wonder if shallows and ship size will be a factor, would be cool sailing a small sloop and being able to evade and loose a pursuing frigate in the shallows. Or trick a less experienced foe into running his ship aground and then pelt him mercilessly with unrelenting fire.
I WILL be getting into this game. I have about 7 age of sail miniature games; its my favorite genre. But, just getting good at War Thunder, finally. So, I'm enjoying that with the little time I have, for the time being.
I think your side need to go on the practice range.....and fire more instead of looking around! lol

It's funny how the smaller ships seem to 'get in the way' on manoeuvring.

I like how it begins with a ranged battle and suddenly all hell breaks lose close up. A pity i discovered this game only yesterday, can't purchase it anymore... hope it'll be soon on Steam.

u should put classical music under the gameplay like Vivaldi the three seasons and then season Winter. Its perfect for these naval battles i also always use it too draw big naval battles and paint them. Great video keep up the good work .

This game is spectacular. Reminds me so much of the old Avalon Hill Board game, Wooden Ships, and Iron Men, except without all of the bookkeeping. Any idea when we might start to see any of the open world modules? Look for me as dwalsh10 in game, but so far I've just made it to Brig level.

I've noticed in most of the Naval Action vids I've seen no-one seems to use chain shot to tear up sails and rigging to potentially hamper a vessel's speed and manoeuvrability and that attacking a ships stern doesn't seem to slow a ship down either. Does the damage done to the ships actually have an effect in how they handle/perform or is just a case of cosmetic damage until it finally sinks?
Sail damage has an impact, and chain is indeed used (so much that it's recently had it's max range reduced to balance it's usefulness). The reason you see not a lot of chain usage by my part is because I usually put videos of myself in pretty big ships in pretty big battles. Big ships using chain in big battles is a massive waste of hull damage potential. Small ships in that kind of battle however can do pretty influential damage with it's lighter guns (Which can't penetrate thick hulls unless very close to the enemy) .
What was your pc setup in this video? I don't know if i can run this game at stable 30, but i really want to buy it :)

Why the flags waving in the wind but the smoke from the gunfire left behind? Sailing ships block could not sail faster than the wind. The smoke of the canon therefore would have to overtake the sail warship!. Error!

At 34:12 the French ship stern raked you and should have turned your gun decks into a charnel house. Amazed you had the ability to carry on.

20:40 is a poor raking attempt. He fires too early, most of his early shots either miss or hit my starboard armor. I didn't even get my rear armor totally wiped out (and with a proper rake from a 1st rate, it just vanishes). Sure, my rear was hit and I got hurt, but could've been much, much worse. Well I guess it's easy to see it could've been much much worse, as only a couple minutes later I deliver a properly executed rake on him, and you can compare the results ;)

the only gripe I have with this game is that it seems ships can take far too many hits before becoming crippled or destroyed.

Lo importante de tus vídeos es la acción en ellos, y los textos deben apoyar esas acciones, no enmascararlas o restar atención de ellas.
El tiempo utilizado en la lectura de los "subtítulos" es tiempo perdido en la visualización de las acciones.
Por último, deberían estar situados en la parte inferiror de la imagen.
Todo esto discho desde el cariño y la mera intención de poartar un poquito en la mejora de unos vídeos que merecen la pena ser disfrutados siempre.

Bruv, definitely time for a new GPU, 25 FPS hurts me to see, but sweet combat!
Seems to me that the area in which you have the most to gain is broadside precision. You have a tendency to just fire off all cannons despite the fact that your last aim shot went over and so most of your broadside goes the same way. Am I on to something here or am I missing something?
Sometimes you just need to turn and the turn will put the target out of the arcs of fire so better to take the shot and try your luck than not shooting at all. Other times you can't get enough elevation due to ship heel and you try to shoot when the ship rightens up a slight bit because of a wave or a slight course change that rights your ship a little bit. Some shots might feel forced and thrown because of lack of patience, but I almost always have a reason to take the shot even while I don't have the range perfectly narrowed down.
Also slightly long range shots that fall past the target still means a heck of a lot of heavy balls zooming just avobe decks. Get some of those balls in a mast and magic happens. Specially the 42s and 32s (mid and lower decks) are splendid demasters.
ramjb Alright thnx for that. I guess it's my gut telling me not to fire at all if I can't get value, but then again if there's no ammo count it's better to fire one time too many than one time too few. Also I'm wondering what you think of the repair system. Seems a little odd to me that they've gone with the repair count solution where the repairs almost become like cards you can play. Would it be more realistic to just fit repair into the resource/manpower allocation system?

It depends on the type of gun and the size of the cannon ball but most of them went at about 500 or 600 meters per second
any info about this game? and is dmg model so broken? in one of videos i saw 1st rate firing full broadside into cutter and cutter survived..
