    The beauty of this Daniel Defense Omega Rail and also the Midwest Industries Combat T Rail is that you aren't locked into the choice without much further disassembly/assembly. If you need to take them off to clean and lubricate the barrel surface underneath, no big deal. If you want to put your standard M4 hand-guards back on, no big deal. You didn't modify anything or ruin/cut off your delta ring and springs. This is useful for a hard use rifle that sees weather and in particular rain/snow. Also if you decide you aren't really using it on this particular rifle and want to swap it to another it's also no big deal. Most all other rails are a commitment and 1+ hours installing them and taking them back off. Also THIS Daniel Defense Omega Rail lays waste to the M-LOK rails being "lighter" myth. This quad rail weighs less than many of those do and is much stronger. For a heavy duty SHTF rifle I think a FSB and standard M4 or quad rail are far more durable. M-LOK is nice for "gamer" rifles and ninjas as well as range and "hunting" guns. For "combat" rifles there really isn't anything further to discuss about it. Many M-LOK rails are bent and ruined the first time any rough handling or getting dropped takes place. You never know how the cards will fall while fighting for your life in a real world scenario. What if you had to dive over a car and roll on the ground on the other side of the hood or trunk? That M-LOK rail will be toast and bent up. Standard M4 hand-guards and quad rails should still be G2G and usable.

    Use a detachable carry handle as a jig to keep it squared while installing it.

    I just bought one for my LMT. I was going to get a Kac but I wanted that free float. With any type of distance or windage itll help with that accuracy. and shooting off any type of barricade. Who knows...maybe eventually Ill get a Ras too lol

    Questão de resistência e de arranhar, esse handguard é muito bom ? Parecido de uma arma de fogo ?

    That rail still moves when you use or shoot?

    I bought this on sale at a local gun shop for $150 then returned it and decided to spend a more for a new KAC M4 RAS from Operationparts I like the way the KAC feels and looks better than this but the Omega is good especially if you get it for a good price.

    Thoughts on the mlok version of the omega handguard. The more circular shape might be to your liking.
    I have the midwest industries free float handguard that uses anti-rotational tabs. When I put downward pressure on the muzzle end there is a slight gap that develops the top receiver and handguard's top picatinney rail. After releasing the pressure the gap disappears.

      @mongooseguns2679  Рік тому

      That’s really interesting. Is the barrel nut torqued correctly? I think all free float rails have a small amount of flex, but I don’t imagine pressure on the barrel should cause the rail to move. After all that’s the whole point of a free floated rail, so the barrel moves independently. If I remember though, I think that handguard you’re talking about is discontinued by MI, as they replaced it with their T series.

    If I have a 14.5 rifle with a front sight post should I buy the 7in omega rail from DD?

    • @mongooseguns2679
      @mongooseguns2679  9 місяців тому +1

      Im a bit more partial to the KAC M4 rail sets, but due to the way the DD Omega rail installs, it will always have a tighter lock up. As to which is more durable, I can’t say. The DD rail is a bit more modernized and compact, so it just depends what you want but you definitely can’t go wrong with it. There are a lot of other rails out there that I think are just a waste but this is absolutely not one of those.

    You definitely buy the Daniel for the lock up.

    Do you still think it's solid? I'm trying to decide between this and saving up for a RIS II.

    • @mongooseguns2679
      @mongooseguns2679  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I still think this rail is one of the best. If you’re starting from scratch in a new build, I can also recommend the BCM QRF, but those are hard to find. Keep in mind that the RIS II is designed to work with an M203. You can’t go wrong with a RIS II, but it may be over kill when the Omega Rail is half the price and still high end. I can still very easily recommend this rail.

      @@mongooseguns2679 Thanks for the feedback, man. What exactly keeps it from rotating? Is it just the friction and pressure from the screws?

    • @mongooseguns2679
      @mongooseguns2679  8 місяців тому

      @@mrmcbeth That's right. From my understanding, DD basically took their mounting design from the DDM4 and MFR rails and carried it over to the Omega rails. All of which are also similar to the RIS II design, with the exception of using 4 screws instead of 6. So basically the Omega rail is the same thing as their other rails, but just slightly modified to work with GI barrel nuts. And to answer your question, since the 4 screws form a square shape to interface with the barrel nut, that makes it physically impossible to rotate. Even just with 2 screws in place (maybe even 1) it wouldn't rotate, because each screw fits between the teeth of the barrel nut. So the screws would have to loosen up for the rail to rotate which would take some extreme stress (screws come with loctite btw). In terms of which handguards are most rugged? That's always debated, but I think there's more consensus which ones are NOT rugged. But companies like DD are known for their rails and I wouldn't ever worry about them not being strong enough. But if I had to bet I'd say that their proprietary barrel nut makes their other rails even more secure, but not to say the Omega rail is weak. In a nutshell, I actually prefer the Omega Rail for more basic/utilitarian AR setups like the one in this video. It's easy to put on and off as needed, and you can always swap it without having to go to a smith or removing the FSB. In other words, for any rifle you were planning to get a 2-piece drop in, like MagPul or MI, Troy, etc - just get this instead… However if your build is for a more unique/specific use-case or style, and you're starting from scratch I prefer using a one-piece rail. Of all the rails on the AR market, the Omega is among my favorite for its unique design, easy install and extremely high quality at an affordable price.

    Is it easy to remove that sharp handguard cap on the front sight post?

    • @mongooseguns2679
      @mongooseguns2679  Рік тому +2

      I think I’ve seen some videos where it can be removed with a cutting tool. But in my experience with this handguard, I’ve never had an issue with that cap being a problem. It’s hard to hit with your hand.

      @@mongooseguns2679 thanks. I guess you can do that or remove the front sight post and it slides off. I have the omega 9.0 with the end custom milled out so that I can retain the front sight post and bayonet lug. Just haven’t gotten around to installing it. Good video btw!

      @@mongooseguns2679
      You don't want it removed if you plan to use this rifle for SHTF or heavy duty combat use. It has a second benefit of keeping mud, dirt and rocks out from underneath to come in contact with the barrel and possibly start to rust it.
