Would you route the downspout so it's coming down on the front side of the house when upgrading to 3x4? I'm thinking the hole in gutter would have to move about 6 inches in the direction away from house if it could be patched? I realize here you already cored through the walkway.

3x4 gutter spouts still recommended if leaf debris is a non-issue? No trees near by that would drop leaves onto the roof.

Not necessarily. A good gutter guy can increase the downspout size and not the gutter size.

Just use a quality gutter guard so the leaves don’t make it into the gutter or downspout to start with
