I am rally enjoying your JMT series. The music selections are wonderful too. S lovely to see the two of you challenging yourselves with hiking and backpacking in the wilderness. Thaks for sharing your experience with us.
Wow, the views from Selden pass are outstanding. So glad that you had sunshine that day and no hail. "And remember to get outside!" - That is such a beautiful and true quote Happy hiking
My son and I did NOBO starting July 7 2021. We did a lot of the same (days) you did in terms of camps sites etc... great to relive it through your video and see you experience!
Another Awesome video Rick & Andrea - so professional ... We left NOBO from Horseshoe just 5 days later but see how we lucky were to miss the alot of the monsoon rains & hail...
Wow! I loved your video and the great detail you went in showing your journey. I actually left 5 days before you and dealt with the weather for many days but made it all the way. Glad you highlighted the VVR. It was awesome! And the people who worked there were so helpful and kind. Congratulations on completing the JMT!
@@RickandAndreaGetOutside Yes-I started at Horseshoe Meadows on July 13 and went over New Army Pass. Then worked my way up the JMT. Amazing trip of a lifetime!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE your journey and LOVE your spirit!! Making the most out of every situation. Thank you for sharing your adventure! I’m looking forward to part 3!!!!
I think we probably were at Rae Lakes the same night. The view from Selden Pass was possibly my favorite of the trip. VVR looked fun. Kinda wish we had stopped there. BTW, almost positive that the two young ladies you met at VVR camped with us at Mono Creek. Enjoyed the video.
That probably was Sadie and Bergitta. They camped at Mono Creek and showed up at VVR about noon the next day. We hiked with them all the way to HI. Selden is a favorite of ours too. Thanks for watching.
@@RickandAndreaGetOutside Just found your videos. Great Job. We camped next to you at Rae Lakes and hiked right behind you on the way to the suspension bridge. We always wondered what happened to you too. And Tyler......yes it was Sadie and Bergitta that camped with us at Mono Creek.
@Landrum - great to hear from you! We remember you guys! We had a great time hiking the JMT, a great experience. Can't remember if you guys were going all the way to HI or were doing a section? We are planning to do the High Sierra Trail this summer.
@@RickandAndreaGetOutside We finished at HI on Aug 9 then spent a week in the valley with the rest of the family. I'm jealous about your upcoming High Sierra Trail. Good luck and have fun.
We just saw your videos all of the on the J M T and it was nice camera work and the editing. We would like to do the same trip and how hard or what had to be done to get all the permits? And advance or comments are gladly appreciate. Thank you keep on hiking !!!!
@@trishlarrysnyder1008 thank you! The permits for going northbound are easier to get then starting from Yosemite. For the northbound permits go to recreation.gov and look for entry point of Cottonwood Pass or Cottonwood Lake. I suggest you join the John Muir Trail Facebook group - the administrator of the group, Inga has details on applying for JMT permits.
@@RickandAndreaGetOutside I have 1 more question if it’s ok? Did you drive to cottonwood trailhead and leave a vehicle there for the 20 or so days or did you have a vehicle waiting at Yosemite valley or ? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. We live in Tennessee and it’s hard to figure out thinks that far way to where we just can’t go up for a weekend and check things out. Once again thank you 🙏
No problem! We left a car at Yosemite Valley, showed the Ranger our JMT permit and they gave us a long term parking pass. Friends drove us from Yosemite to Horseshoe Meadows. Good luck and I hope you get a chance to hike the JMT!
Great video, spectacular scenery and music choices. Nice live music scene too!!! Just one thing. Passes don’t have summits! Passes are the lower places between summits that keep you from having to climb up to summits! 🤓🤓🤓
I am astounded by your 17-, 18, and TWENTY mile days. After 5-year absence I resume my SOBO hike on 8/19 from DPP. Going solo this time. Still debating if I have the time & energy for a side trip to VVR. I assume their ferry won't be running by 8/22 but I'll check with Northbounders. Love your video!
Thanks! That was a tough 3 day stretch, would not do that again. VVR is great - great people, food, very relaxing, hiker oriented. We enjoyed our zero day there. It was a great place to pick up our resupply. Good luck on your SOBO hike! DPP?
WOW! Absolutely amazing vistas! Always got to enjoy those nice warm showers ;-) I've heard that it has been pretty busy on the trail this year...have you been finding it that way? Guess it all depends on a person's mindset and tolerance too. Gotta love those clear night skies! I do believe that my days for such an adventure have come to an end, but sure do appreciate being taking along by others...just PERFECT! Thanks so much! Bruce and Otis
Thanks Bruce! The trail was fairly busy - it's very popular always. We didn't mind, always fun to meet and talk with other backpackers. Thanks for watching! Hope you and Otis are well.
Thanks Ken! Yes, the solar charger worked great. I kept my battery plugged in during the day as I hiked, then charged my phone at night and the Garmin every few days. Enjoy your trip in August! Nobo?
Thanks Michael. I really regreted not bringing my camp chair - I have the helios 1 lb backpacking chair and it would have been way more comfortable than sitting on my bear canister or a log. Not needed was my second battery. The solar cell worked so well I was able to keep my first battery topped off most days. At night I charged my iphone, and garmin. Would have saved 6 ozs and offset some of the weight of the chair. Also brought too much food the first week, just didn't have the appetite we thought we would.
NIce couple loved your movie. I have the same pack. i love it the Osprey Exos 58...... mens I think the only difference between the mens and ladie's are the shoulder straps.
Thanks Renee! Yes, love the Osprey Exos. I found it very comfortable throughout the whole 3 week trip, even with 35 lbs after a resupply. Thanks for watching.
Hi William, we started from Onion Valley at 6:45am and made it over Kearsarge faster than we expected, a little over 2 hours to the top of the pass. Glen Pass was early afternoon, we made it to our campsite at Middle Rae Lake about 3:30pm .
Interesting that you skipped Muir Ranch and went all the way to VVR. That's what I'd like to do but I'm reluctant because my bear can would be so heavy for such a long stretch. Do you know how much your food weighed out of Onion Valley?
Yea we could have done that but did opt for going to VVR but might do that next time. Each time we started with a week's worth of food our packs with food and water weighed about 35 lbs, bear canister with food was 10 or 11 lbs of total. Thanks for watching!

Very well done! Thank you.

My son and I stopped at that very same spot at Salley Keys Lake to catch some trout and take a break! Beautiful spot!
