This is MSF's Intro to Trail Riding Course, a course you organize privately once you have completed (and passed) a DirtBike course. This is my second class on the tallest bike I've ever ridden - this time, not on the dirt track... but the TRAILS. Kristen is a subscriber and I met her when she came along on the first DirtBike course I organized with my instagram followers. Her boyfriend took a dirt class shortly after so we could all do the trail riding course later.
See the many other courses MSF offers I've taken in this playlist here: bit.ly/RidingCourses
This is a collaboration with the MSF and their training site at the Honda facility in Alpharetta, GA. They covered the cost of the class in exchange for a video on my experience. All of the views and opinions expressed in this video are solely those of myself and not representative of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or the MSF Campus Alpharetta/ Honda Rider Education Center

I am glad it's not only me making silly noises during difficult passages off-road. You did absolutely great Carolyn ✌️
Doodle
Welcome to the DIRT! The Dirt has NOTHING to do with the street. The dirt is reaction and survival skills. Yeh, dirt bikes are tall on pupose to get over obstacles. I even have to balance mine when stopped on one tippy toe! Dirt is REACTIVE vs PROACTIVE riding skills. Street riding is like, yeh there's a right coming up. Dirt riding is you have NO clue sometimes what is coming up. The street is solid and secure. The dirt is loose and always sketchy. What you learn dirt riding will save your life on the street!!! Dirt riding teaches reaction to uncertain terrain and how to respond. This translates to emergency maneuvers on the street. IMHO, every motorcyclist should start on a dirt bike! I had 12 dirt bikes before I was 16. Riding dirt first makes you a better street rider.
Peace Doodle!
Ride SAFE and BE safe Lady!!
🙌👏👏👏👏👌✌🖖🤙👍👋🙂🌹🌹
Street riding is literally life and death tho
Dirt riding is a must start if you plan to ride on the street
@@XXXCRSPL YES! I rode dirt from 11 years old until my first street bike at 17. Learning to ride in the dirt will save your life on the street! 👍👍👍✌👌🖐🙂
Nothing has improved my riding more than riding on the dirt. I did the MSF dirt class a few times and rode a little BDR to put it into practice. Keep going Doodle!!! You rock.
Dirt bikes are supposed to drop at some point or you aren't getting better.
You did awesome. Learning the skills to really enjoy this sport takes time, so a few falls and some tree bark is no big deal, just stay with it. I'm 58 and I've spent way more time on the dirt than on the street and if I could only do one, it would be knobby tires and spiders for me. I also have to say that I'm a Honda guy so seeing all those Honda's and Honda gear makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Looking forward to the next adventure.
Doodle, Main thing is you never got hurt hitting the tree. Kudos to you for getting out and riding on dirt. See you Friday. #DOODLENATION
Doodle should start an annual award to a person who has shown growth. And being honest about the process.
😋 🥇
Way to go Doodle! Riding off-road with a tall bike, would be pretty intimidating. That looks like a fun course, assuming it's not the hottest day of the year.
What helps on the bumps is you bend your knee like you're jumping in the air but keeping your foot at the pegs.
If you want to do a really tight turn, it's best to stand up and use your weight on your foot.
You can use trees to "put your foot down" on.
Love your enthusiasm and your motivation to just learn as much as you can!
I agree with the others commenting here you are doing great. Keep doing what your doing you are the prefect example for others learning the sport. I started out riding when I was 20 and did a lot of both on and off road. I stopped riding at 30 I think and started beck riding after my wife died at 61 and I am now 70. I love riding!
Awesome video and great riding. Takes confidence to keep getting up and twisting the throttle. I'm joining your community to see more. Cheers
Cool episode. I need to be doing more of this kind of riding and training.
Happy Trails
Great video Doodle. What's important is making steady progress. Even if you make a mistake. You'll still be learning something and improve. Trail riding requires a complete different skillset compared to the motocross experience I had.
Great video! Can't wait to see you ride more off-road
Doodle got a tree hug. Keep up the great work on pushing yourself.
You may be on a dirt bike, riding on trails with new obstacles, but what your really doing is the first step in trials riding. Its stuff that's long been out of fashion in the U.S., but some of the technical training you'll experience is just short of Super Bike. Most people really struggle with this kind of riding since it calls for absolute mastery of self, while becoming part of the machine as its weight and center of gravity is constantly shifting about. A great many couldn't take a serious trials course with any assurance of immediate success. You did much better than many might have. Chin up Doodle.
Honestly, i just love watching your videos. Your content is therefore divergent which makes it super interesting. Especially watching you gain more experience, makes me wanna depart, leave for a ride. Seeing you ride bigger motorcycles, just excites me.
Respect for taking that class and showing everything afterwards 👍🏼👍🏼
That looked a fun session, learning some new bike skills 😎👍🏽🏍♥️
Doodle you are getting better each time. Keep going you are a inspiration
Wow, looks like a lot of fun. Hard, but fun. Amazing.
Relax and have fun! Keep going!
Always look where ya wanna go and use the back brake.... It'll make "u turns" incredibly easier... Good stuff! I'm glad you're getting into off-road 👍👍
Whoohoo, indeed 👏👏👏 I’m impressed!!! Great job, Doodle 💯
That looked like fun going off road 😊. Well done getting through the course.
I hate it when trees run out in front of me while I’m riding through the woods. They really need to look where they’re going. 🙃🤣😂🤣
You did awesome. Good instructors. Looks like everyone was having fun.
🤪🤣🤣
Much love doodle. Love the videos
as always. Dirt isn’t easy but will help to do learn it.
If bumping that tree was the worst thing, the day was a home run.
Fantastic job!
omg! That looks like so much fun,, especially after you get good at it. I always watched motocross with awe.
Such nice instructions. Great looking school.
You done great, Doodle, especially riding a bike that's tall and out of your comfort zone, congrats on effort and passing your course, onya.
Ride safe. 🏍💨💨💨💯
Annie from Oz 🇦🇺👌👍😎
Looks like you had fun and learnt alot. Dirt bikes, not the easiest to ride. Great job 👍🙂
I'm in the process of buying my first Adv bike. As a kid on a farm, I used to have my dad as pillion as I could never touch the ground on the bikes. This time round I literally walked from dealer to dealer trying to find a bike that I could touch the ground with both feet. I have ended up choosing a small, relatively unknown bike that I can safely touch the ground with and is quite comfortable. Tricks for small folks always is a bonus ;). Enjoy the ride, it's awesome in dirt :D
A Himalayan?
@@darkiee69 no, I’m going for my second choice, a Hero XPulse 200 adv, slightly out of my comfort zone but better ground clearance than my first choice
That left U-turn by the rocks tripped me up 😩
Me too!! But somehow I’ve ever never messed up there… only in the simple u turns 🤪
The more you ride the better you will get. I learned on a Honda CT70 @ 8. At 10 yo I was riding my brothers Yamaha MX175, really tall for a little kid. But I loved to ride. Once you are bitten by the bug you will always wanna ride. Hang in there.
Nice Doodle! You did great! 😊
I feel like you definitely leveled up your riding skills after this, keep doing what you do 👊🏼
Even though I fell and crashed into a tree! You da best
Impressive work on your channel.
👍 👍 Nice ride! 😎
Awesome! You're improving. Riding off-road can be very addictive. Keep it up and you'll be getting a KTM 310 and tackling the MABDR. That would be a great video series!
Good job for your first time in a trail . Actually it was a great job . ✌☺👌
Just now watching this video, your personal sound effects crack me up - mainly because I do that too!! 😂
Knee's in The Trail Blazzeing Breeezzeeee Doodle keep it up....Cheers from Down Under
Good Job.
Looking forward to more offroad vids! Good throttle control on those obstacles. I've been riding on dirt for like 2 years and I'm a lot more comfortable doing u-turns turns when standing now, still awkward doing them sitting down because I'm too lazy to sit on the outside edge of the seat I guess. Which they were really emphasizing in Socal Supermoto, but I mostly ignored. Would be cool if you went there
That brake line guide is an ez fix, dropping the bike and bumping into stuff is pretty much normal offroad
Looking like a pro already with that u turn! They ain’t easy that’s for sure! takes time to get used to it!
Nice behind the scenes video Doodle. I always say if you want to be a gr8 rider go offroad!!!
I grew up racing open class in the desert so street bikes came easy to me. If only they had UA-cam during my generation I might actually have something worth watching lol. Great video I’ve never heard of your channel!
Good Job
How fun Doodle, great job but when on the trails expect to drop the bike it's just going to happen I know it happens to me a lot... 🥳
😁 thanks for the assurance 🤪
If I’d have taken this course prior to my first dual sport trail rides, I’d likely have saved a lot of pain. I took the trail course in 2019 and really enjoyed it.
Looks super rad Doodle!!
Who would've guessed you were having issues with a U-turn haha 😂.
Thinking if taking moto ventures soon too
🤪
Omg you have cohones doing that! I’m terrified of tall bikes being height challenged also. My FTR is far from low. I didn’t know these classes existed!
First things first: you did great, wow! Even if that hadn't been your first time in the woods! Love that you're taking advantage of all these courses and upgrading your skills. Secondly, I am so envious of these courses :) This one looked like a blast, with great instructors and really cool training area! The question is now: do you have room in your garage for a dirt bike? ;)
I would like two dirt bikes and one truck, please 😁
Cool. Would be fun on my Scrambler!
The theme from George of the Jungle just popped into my head. Go Doodle
🤣🤣
Doodle, your amazing girl. No fear, try everything. I love watching enjoy life. Your beautiful, smart , funny and I love that your just you. Wholesome Doodle girl.
I raced motocross for quite a few years in my youth. Bumps and bruises are just part of the dirt bike game. I am surprised they didn't have handguards though. All of my woods bikes had aluminum handguards , they save your levers and your hands
Oooh!
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle I hope you stick with it. While it is completely different than riding on the street learning new skills is never a bad thing
👍sweet ,always have fun;-)
Nice work. I'm glad you chose the one that was more of a struggle than the smaller bike.
Side note, when I watch videos, it's on a big home theater. I was not ready for that first squeak in the woods. Lesson learned. Volume lower for your videos. 😛
😅
Looks like a lot of fun! Did they teach wheelies? I got a KLX 300 dual sport this summer to commute and hit the trails on one bike!!
I think you're doing great.
trick is balance and confidence, have fun...falling off is normal when riding dirt do not over-think it just learn to balance with confidence and, to want to have fun. quite apologizing just have fun. it's normal to fall on a dirt bike it's part of learning to ride dirt...be daring.
Good stuff Doodle. Just out of curiosity, have you noticed your slow speed skills on the street improving (or any of your street skills) as you get better in the dirt?
🤷🏽♀️😋
Your Doing Fine
Doodle, I fail to see how smashing headlong into a tree qualifies as "struggling." You did fine for your first exposure to trail. Remember that the lower your center of gravity, the more stable and controllable is the bike; to lower the center of gravity, stand on the footpegs. That way your weight is not carried atop the saddle (high part), but upon the footpegs (low part). Standing is essential if you're trying to traverse through sand! It takes time to become comfortable with standing and the time to begin is now.
Ahh you the best!
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle second-best . . . to you! Thank you!
Stand up...ride a little pigeon toed and grip the tank seat with your knees...when you approach obstacles, do not use the handlebars to support your weight....use your legs and squeeze.
👏👏👏 trying to do this and film must be mentally exhausting Carolyn. Too much to do all at once can tire and confuse a situation please be careful. Excellent results though for all your hard work, hope you get the drop on Kody next time 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
I actually don’t pay attention to my camera in class, just leave it rolling so I can focus on the instruction.
Makes for a really slow editing process searching through a ton of footage for the video moment… but oh well 😋
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle thanks for the reply, was concerned about you.
Your getting so much seat time on so many different things your going to be able to jump on anybike in a couple years and ride it like its your everyday bike!
WOOHOO!!
That was fun. Lets do it again!
Yes!!
Oof, been there. Those friggin trees jump right out in front of you!
They really do 😅
I would loove to do that class
Sweet
LOL... she said weerratt going over those logs 🤪 perfectly appropriate
🤪
Ah the whisky throttle and clutch jerking. Muscles fatigue and control is lost, the body reacts by hanging on for dear life and inadvertently makes the matter worse. I had a wild monster YZ250 at one point, it bucked me off like a horse once (unintentional wheelies lead to unintentional additional throttle application and it all goes pear shaped in a hurry).
That tree JUMPED RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU! I saw it do that. Trees can be so mean and sneaky that way. Really. 😉
😂😂
It happens. They seem to grow everywhere.
🤣
The Dominican came out on those bumps ay yay yay
Watching to see if a limb grabs your front brake in retaliation for hitting the tree. 🤪 😁
😂
Doodle bug!! Be careful!!🏄🏄🏄
Now you need to ride proper Class C Enduro you'll have so much fun!
Doodle needs a dualsport!
Looking good….lots to remember it seems……
Great job getting outside of your comfort zone. Where was this at?
MSF Campus in Alpharetta, GA!
I wanna take that course!!!! 😑
Every day that you ride a dirt bike even if you crash you get better at riding Watch out for those trees 😬
Go Doodle!
I finished the Top Female Motovloggers video. Thanks for all your help!
So what do you think about dirt bikes doodle? Hang in there practice makes perfect!
I’m loving them!! 😃 despite my current struggles - I know that’s temporary 🤪
Doddle, I admire you for your are doing, your videos are pretty good, but you need to get your confidence up just a little more, it all comes back when you did the motorman videos, remember that he always said look to want to go, look at the ground you are going down. By the way I'm 5'4 myself I understand that the taller bikes can be a problem, but you never know until you try.👍
its so much fun, right!? :)
Yassssss!!
😎🍻
Once I ran in a tree that was rotten. It was at night , turn the light out and everything glowed green
Whooaaaa
Whats your in seam doodle?
31” crotch to floor!!
Sorry that tree ran into you. How inconsiderate. You're doing well. Better than me as I have never ridden on dirt... yet.
That’s what I thought. How rude!🤣
I thought the same thing! I saw the whole thing! That tree just jumped right smack dab in front of her!
My first dirtbike was a CRF230F which I purchased a little over two years ago. Even a fire road felt challenging at first. Now it's out conquering sand dunes! Keep at it Doodle!: ua-cam.com/video/CnjwPozCxiI/v-deo.html
How is the tree after that encounter?
It’s no longer talking to me
@1:10 - Hi Doodle!!!
I'm not sure why I'm replying so early in this video...just to say "HI", I guess. I just gotta tell you though, I really feel at this point of the video that I'm watching a Dateline(tm) undercover video where we're about to go chase down some corporate bozo who just poured asbestos into the city's water supply after he left the back withdrawing millions of dollars from the children's orphanage fund....and we're investigating and going to catch him at a gas pump or something.
Wow, did that escalate quickly or what??? See how my mind works at 5 am in the morning??? 😎👀
😂😂
Just wait until you ride one with no electric start... thats the struggle lol
You George of the Jungle? 😁
🤪🌳
that tree is really just part of the guard rail, it's meant to be hit, it's for safety.
Woohooo!!! Being perfect is overrated anyways.
