I love this series Jess, and to add to your commentary this series is easy to get into because for the most part eah issue is self-contained and can be read in any order. I do believe that superhero comic fans would get more out of it just by the references of comic book history and the behind the scenes of many things (like the whole point of Silver Agent in the story) but can be entertaining for those whose first time reading comics is this. And a recommendation to you Jess is that much of what you liked about this series is part of the norm in most manga. By that I mean that the human element is a deliberate part that manga writers put conciously into their works. How this super fantastical and wacky world has a real sense of reality (truthlikeness) with all the absurdity going on. I trust that Gio and others can give recommendations based on Astro City, though you do have to get used to the opposite reading orientation
yeah I can't read manga because I can't follow it backwards so manga is off the table and has been for years. I've tried several manga and it's just not my thing. But I'm really happy you love AC and you make solid points about it!
I'm just finishing up this first Metrobook and it is very, very good. I've wanted to read this for a while now but it was so hard to find. Very much looking forward to the second volume and beyond. I particularly loved the second issue, "The Scoop." "Good thing I didn't come alone."
I need to get this book! I’ve been reading about it my entire life or at least since I was probably like 10 or 11. It’s been almost 30 years. Now is the time for me to do something about it. Looks like the two metro books have around 35 issues between the both of them, probably need like 4 or 5 more to get the whole series in this format. I’m buying in.
GREAT!! Yeah it's one of my faves and the MetroBook is easy to find as opposed to my HC's! I think I already saw vol 2 scheduled for later this year so you'll be able to put the collection together fairly quickly!

I don’t know if I have any rare out of print books or not. I know I have punisher max Garth em is omnibus’s and I think they may be out of print but not sure. Just read Metrobook. It was amazing! However, that "In the Spotlight" issue is NOT in Metrobook Vol 1.
Looks like it will be in the second metrobook. It’s issue 13.
