We've got some Basswood by us. It's not the most common tree, but it's relatively common. You mentioned that people like to use Basswood for carving. I'm not sure if you were talking about regular carving, or chainsaw carving. But If I'm not mistaken, I think the guys around here like to use Basswood for their medium when they do chainsaw carving. You know, like when they carve those wooden bears and stuff like that. Another good vid Tim! I always like watching grapple work. I'm still waiting (been waiting for 5 months so far) for my dealer to get my 3rd function parts so that I can use a grapple. Tired of using forks to load logs onto my firewood cutting table. I'm getting the Frost Bite grapple though, as it's better (to me) for picking up logs, and especially picking up multiple logs than the root rake type grapples. You've got to be loving that new machine, as it picks up those sizeable logs with very little effort!
Jeff, I was referring to hand carving or turning blanks. I could see it working well for chainsaw carving as well though. It's soft and very little grain variation. I waited a year to get my third function on the cs2520. Was the same boat, had to use the forks for all log moving. It'll be worth it when you get it buddy.
