Sick and tired of getting on and off your tractor to switch attachments? This upgrade may be for you
I've been thinking of some ways to eliminate getting in and out of the tractor when switching attachments and I came up with this idea. Since I already have hydraulics to the front of the tractor, why not put them to work actuating the handles for the skid steer quick attach.

    Good idea. Typically here where I live trees are generally not as big as what I seen you messing with Tim. Some of the maples do get that big but my splitter is on the 3pt hitch so I can set it down almost on the ground to make it easier to deal with heavy ones. I’m fortunate to have nice metal working equipment. I was at work one day doing some heavy stick welding with the little Lincoln buzz box there, cranked wide open because I was burning 3/32” rods. I was sitting there just literally burning one rod right after the other and my damn hand started getting hot and I was wondering what the hells going on here, slipped a glove off and felt the cable and it was damn hot too, then the brain engaged and remembered that the little welder at work does not have a 100% duty cycle like mine at home does😂. Oopsie, my bad.

      I agree with you to a point. You have to hook up lines for a grapple (for example) either way. So is it really an extra step? I mean, I need to disconnect the hoses for the ssqa and connect them together, but I'm already there hooking up my grapple... Is it as good as a dedicated line for the ssqa? Certainly not, but this was quick, easy, and under $100 to do. Like you said, has it's good points and bad. Thanks for stopping in and commenting. I really appreciate you supporting my channel!

    • @timbervisions
      @timbervisions 5 днів тому

      I've done of couple of those type of videos but one thing is obviously clear. What a person charges is mainly dependent on their location and what the going rate for that work is in their area. I've so many comments on a stump grinding video I posted about how I charge and 90% of the comments were telling me I charge too little and I'm edging out the guy who does it to put food on his table and so on. My best advice is this, learn what folks charge in your area and price accordingly. As far as insurance, talk to your agent and get coverage for the type of jobs that you plan to do. Just a heads up, stump grinding is charged at the same rate as tree removal (which isn't an inexpensive insurance to get). Hope this helps, best of luck to you!

    Nice job Tim! I like it! But I agree with someone's comment below, if you need your front hydraulics, this is unusable, unless you add a 4th hydraulic function kit to the front end, which I've seen Courtney use on his Goodworks Tractors channel. This is still very usable when using a snow pushbox, or bucket, or forks. I think I'm going to get a set of pallet forks for my 3pt., so that I can leave my grapple on the front. That way when processing firewood, I can use the grapple to load logs onto the bucking table, buck the logs, then split them and throw the splits into an IBC, and then use the 3pt. to move the IBC's without having to continually switch back and forth from the grapple to the pallet forks. Good video though Bud! I'm sure a lot of people who don't need to use a grapple often are going to jump on this idea!

There is no getting away from having to get out to connect the grapple no matter if you have dedicated hoses for the grapple and quick attach so I'm not out anything. Thanks for stopping bud!

Have you thought about putting a electric splitter so you wouldn’t have to unplug your quick steer connect to run your grapple for example you wouldn’t have to unplug your hoses at any time. It’s just an electric switch that would switch over from uncoupling accessory and then you can use your accessory as well. You could just flip your cylinder around and that would eliminate the need for crossed hoses. Obviously you would have to change your male and female couplers. I've been looking at the electric actuators since I didn't want to tie up my hydraulics, but you have to get off the tractor anyway to hook up and unhook the hydraulics for a grapple, so you could hook up, then disconnect hydraulics to the quick attach and hook up to the grapple.

    • @rmeav8er677
      @rmeav8er677 6 днів тому

      That was my first thought as well, but you have to dismount to hook up the hydraulics to the grapple. He can just disconnect these hydraulics after the grapple is attached and then hook up the grapple hydraulics. Same in reverse to take it off.

    • @timbervisions
      @timbervisions 6 днів тому

      @@CliffsideStables i plan to hook the two hoses together and strap them to the bar when using the grapple. The quick attack will hold itself just like it normally does in that position. Good question!

    I retired my stump grinding business in 2024 when I was 77. I had been doing it for twenty years after I retired from General Motors. Honestly that was a $600 to $700 stump all day long. I tried to help others in small business and I always told them there are two ways to put yourself out of business real fast. One is to overcharge for your work because you just won't get the work. The other is to undercharge for your work and you will put yourself out of business. I was very fortunate. Out of thousands of customers, I only had one who was an ass. He was a very entitled lawyer. Ha!

      I don't make a living grinding stumps and agree what I quoted in this video was too low. I have a full time job and do this on the side and don't grind very many stumps per year. Just a handful for friends and family and word of mouth. I get your point and agree. Thanks for stopping in and sharing your experience.

    Good video. I thought you were going to complain that the cab was to small, you are seriously a big guy!! You got 8” height on me and you’re over double my weight. Lol. I’m waiting to bring my RX7320PC home now. I agree, it should have a rear wiper. My tractor already has tripple SCV’s at the back, they just have to add the third function to the loader for me. I also agree with the cab work lights…..they should be LED and on mine you can’t adjust them horizontally either, just up and down….kinda stupid. However it is $45,000.00 less than the JD 5075E I priced out. And the stupid thing with it is I couldn’t get it equipped with tripple SCV’s just dual🙄. I think I’m going to love my Kioti when I get to put it to work. I’ll probably be changing its cab work lights to LED soon after I get it home. And I’ll make brackets so they adjust horizontally too.

      @myronhorvathsk i tested an RX as well, but it's just a little too big for what i do. I live in town and there are street lights around so the led lights aren't a must for me, would've been nice of they had them. I think you'll love your tractor. @stumpgrinderbear7034 we are at the lower end of that here for a pro to do it. I do this on the side and not many per year. Mostly word of mouth, family, and friends. I mostly just want to covey my costs and make a little. The stump in this video was on my lot. I wouldn't bid one of that size, especially after grinding it myself. Took hours to do with the tractor mounted grinder and was over 24ft diameter of area to grind before it was all said and done.

    I just welded a nut on the end of my crank shaft and then took a 1/2" socket extension and ground off 3 flat sides for my chuck to grab. Crank handle still slides over the shaft if I need it. I use my big heavy duty drill and I can raise my gooseneck fully loaded with 20k lbs no problem.

    I used a super split. We were four people splitting 3 cords, and we could not keep up with the speed of the splitter cutting rounds into four. We had everything done in under 45 minutes. One running the splitter, one passing the rounds, and two pilling the split wood. running it on full throttle, it's crazy fast. and strong it will split knoty maple with ease if it does get stuck, just hit the handle down and re-pull it will finish the split in 2 seconds, and the problem wood is done.
