Great News, The Bull returns. In summer 2023 the Commonwealth Games Bull is returning to Birmingham for permanent display on the Passenger concourse of Birmingham New Street Station.
Well people must of been watching this spectacular opening ceremony and how well Birmingham Staged the Commonwealth Games because Birmingham has been chosen to host the 2026 European Athletics, the first time it has been held in the UK another one up manship for Birmingham and may be the Bull could come out of retirement 👹 😁😁
@@fishsmell3939 a billion is probably a stretch for the opening alone, but was the figure across the games in Glasgow. Interestingly, the Commonwealth Games pulls in about a third of the global viewing figures that the Olympics do....and with the Commonwealth being a third of the world's population, it makes sense! If we take that rough thirds idea and apply it to a UK opening ceremony, 900m globally for London 2012 opening would suggest 300m for Birmingham. In the UK alone 5m people watched the opening ceremony live, which is a pretty hefty number! Glasgow however pulled 9m, and I believe London was close to 50% of the UKs population!!

Went to Birmingham yesterday & spent the whole day there, in fact I would still be there if I could have found a room to stay, maybe there was 1 but I couldn't find 1, i think the whole Country & Commonwealth is in the Centre of Brum. Anyway what a day, oh the Bull, it mean a lot to the history of Birmingham & in fact older than Birmingham itself, Birmingham is considered quite a young City but place's there like Digbeth which ime sure who had the bullring is as old as the hills, other suburbs in that area in what was Warwickshire, Birmingham didn't exist by name, the area was called Warwickshire, other areas or Parishes like Aston, Handsworth Sutton Coldfield & Edgbaston just grew & grew until they met each other & then I think the nutters arrived (the romans) & called this area Birm-in- ham, we did try to fight them off & just outside this area a Queen called Boudicca put up 1 hell of a scrap & we lost nearly 250'000 people. The bullring is old & historical & why the huge shopping Mall there is called the bullring. Oh go Birmingham at least before the game ends, amazing events entertaining the public 👏. Thank you Brum 😊

I was lucky enough to be in the stadium. The ceremony started at 8pm and finished around 10.30pm, and it was starting to get dark just as this section was taking place. I had a great seat, very close to where the bull was parked, waiting to come into the arena. Those of us sitting in that section, near the end of the stand, were gasping with astonishment as the bull glowed red and started to breathe out smoke! The whole ceremony was extraordinary and quite moving, it paid tribute to aspects of Birmingham's history that I'd not been aware of (and I grew up less than an hour's train journey away from the city). It was a never-to-be-forgotten evening.
I don't think I'm aware of such a tribute to that history either. Would you please tell me. I would love to learn more about this well put together fascinating event. What does it all mean?

Huh... That's uh something. What's a bull got to do with the Commonwealth? Does anyone know what was before or after this part of the ceremony?
It is in connection with the Bull Ring shopping centre which holds a lot of history on the making of Birmingham, Dating back to the 1100s.
