At least here, the gorillas are free, and able to leave a situation they don't like at any time. They can't do that in a zoo. Not sure how you think this could possibly be worse than a zoo. The gorillas came up to the humans, it wasn't the other way around. They're not legally allowed to approach the gorilla, and if they got up and took off, it could startle them and then the silverback would get involved. They're not known to harm other creatures, but a gorilla display can be frightening, even though it's almost always just to intimidate. My only issue with trekking is the fact the humans should be wearing masks. Gorillas and other apes can catch anything we can catch, but they don't have the same level of immunity in order to fight illnesses off the way we can. Other than that, the people weren't doing anything wrong.
