THIS is an example why you can't burn your bridges in entertainment. You NEVER know who you are going to end up working with - or for - later. So funny seeing them together when they were younger. I LOVED their dynamic on "Empty Nest". They were a hoot!
Yeah, Empty Nest was not the same when Kristy left the show. Even when Lisa Rieffel and Paul Provenza were brought on for Dinah to play off of, it just didn't work.
Dinah and Kristy were so good together. So glad they shared a sitcom together later on.
The future stars of "Empty Nest" 10 years before they are Barbara and Carol.
Now this is an episode I didn't remember. How interesting seeing "Carol" and "Barbara" from Empty Nest together here. WHo knew they would end up on a show together 10 years later.
I knew it. I knew that was both sisters from Empty Nest...
Audrey Ann Yes. We know they played on the show. But my point being the coincidence that they acted together in the 70s and later ended up paying sisters on the same show.

I love their house. I love them. The parents are so nice. So together. I know it's a TV show but it's nice to fantasize.
I was abused and wanted to live in that house with those parents so bad.

Every bit of this is fantasy but it's fun. What really puts me back to Earth is realizing the father passed away way back in 1982 in real life from cancer

Dinah Manoff is really good in this role, probably the best acting work she’s done

Mara was a great character, she wasn't meant for the mind numbing conformity of High School/

Thank you so much for posting these episodes of family. I loved this show from childhood. It’s so nice to see them again. I can’t thank you enough.
That’s why they had such great chemistry. They worked together before. Carol was on Soap playing Bert’s daughter-in-law. The chemistry with all three actors was there. That’s what made Empty Nest so good. Buddy was alot like Mara. She is a free spirit too. I thought Kristy then looked like a white Janet Jackson.
I've found Kristy's singing voice to sound a bit like Janet's
"Mara" really must have been neglected by her parents, she's 22 and still in high school! :) "Buddy'' is easily 5 or 6 years younger than her, and it shows! Thanks for the episode, you have a great channel.

Dinah Manoff has the sweetest kindest voice....and her hat highlights her EYES.....

Pretty much the same characters here as they were as Carol and Barbara on Empty Nest - Carol the clingy needy attention-whore, and Barbara the snide, perpetually annoyed realist.

Oh man the lady who played the teacher just died I saw she was great played on king of queens as dougs mother and did facts of life season one she was great

Jenny OHara is great! She didn't die. Her Mom Edith did die in 2020, though, at age 103.

Mara was wrong. It doesn't matter how creative and brilliant you are, when you are part of a group project you don't hog all the work for yourself and then completely change the theme from what was agreed on by the group. I don't see why Buddy was made to feel as if she was in the wrong. She put her neck out to get her friend a position on the committee and then the friend behaved badly and made things difficult for Buddy. Buddy continued to defend her friend even when things were going badly, I felt for Buddy here, not Mara. Kate is usually so level headed but not this time. She should have (gently and kindly) told Mara that she made a mistake and explained why. As it was this girl went off into the sunset thinking that she did the right things and that others just didn't understand her superiority.
I like Mara but can't find anything here to disagree with. People act like those other girls are evil or something for wanting Mara to abide by the will of the student body.

I know I've said a few negative things lately about the show and I don't want people to get the wrong idea. I love the show, I love the characters. But I feel like the writing is deteriorating in this season, sadly. Things are happening that are not realistic and in keeping with how the characters as we know them would behave.
