All these years later Sylvester music continue to resonate with generation to generation, timeless, classic and filled to the rafters with his key ingredients positive energy and love. RIp Sylvester ❤
He was a PIONEER in our community. I see very few drag queens that ACTUALLY sing and if they do can sing. Yet he wasn't or shouldn't have even been called that. He was an artist, who created great music and brought joy to the masses. But most of all he was an INCREDIBLE human being.
Now this is some singing, I feel the rhythm of this. I'm glad I got the chance to sing with Sylvester, at the Copa Cabana, in NY city. Remember that stage down stairs, he gave me the opportunity to come up on stage, to sing with him. I knew that night, something was wrong with him. He didn't look so good that night and he told me so. Not to long after that, I heard he has passed on. He's been really missed in my heart and I will never forget him or his songs.❣️😏
Muy dearest Sylvester James, I don't understand why people as talented, charming, sweet, tender cannot be here with us sharing all that you had in your huge heart. That was definitely not the time for you. You were ahead. RIP MY BELOVED ONE.....
My sister, my friend, my confidant and mentor Sylvester the greatest of all. I was so fortunate to be in this mans world, he taught me , showed me and so generously shared his musical world with me. From Eric Robinson to the Fabulous Martha and Izora to the great Jeannie Tracy whom Ive loved so much. This is an ICON a singer, actor, and generous human being that I met at 20 years old and took me on a journey that blew my mind and made me sustain this world because of him, Sylvester friend, sister, and all time mentor. I love you Dunnie..........................Till we meet again.
Thank you for uploading this rare gem it brings back so many wonderful memories! Sylvester was an awesome singer and loved by many he will never be forgotten.
Sylvester's voice and talent were big, bright treats in this concert. He sang with such a feeling and he seemed to really enjoy that occasion. Love you, Sylvester!!!
Phenomenal footage - and what a rare treat to get almost a full hour of Sylvester live! This uniquely talented singer showcases his talents here in what I believe is actually two different concerts. The first half-hour is Sylvester at the Trocadero (in San Francisco, I think), in his first concert celebration of his 40th birthday (though he was 38 at the time). His birthday was September 6, 1947, so this concert may be on or near that day, but in 1985. The second half is at a large gay dance club (probably also in San Francisco), and may be 1983 or 1984 rather than 1985. In that concert, Sylvester sings "Band of Gold," which he refers to as "from my latest album"; the song was released in 1983.
Sylvester could have came out on stage, with a pumpkin outfit on. I wouldn't have cared, that man had the crowd going. His music inspires me still today, that helps me to exercise. When listening to his music, I just can't keep still. 🤗😏
This is wonderful to watch and yet bitter sweet. I lost so many friends and acquaintances during this period of time. I remember when my DJ friend David Raymond Hernandez first told me of Sylvester’s Illness and when he died. My friend David lost his life in 1989. Like the Pet Shop Boys song “It’s Alright”, The music goes on and on.”
I loved him. Gay men are harmless. They’re great people that are no different from any other people. I don’t know why people go crazy over gay men. Let them do what they do! RIP Sylvester James. One day, I’ll meet you when you are resurrected.
RayQuinten Dodds The best friends that I’ve ever had were gay men, and that’s the truth. That’s why I never understood how these fake religious people are so quick to point a finger, which is why Sylvester has to leave the church. 😞😞😞😣😣😣😢😢😢😢
There will never be another SYLVESTER !!! RIP !! 😪
