Thank you for your video. My wife and i were a little weary of buying a electric pressure cooker, but with you video we feel that we would be comfortable with getting one now. Thanks again👍🏻👍🏻
Christopher Ballew ~ You are welcome, I am glad I was able to reduce your anxiety level. Don't be surprised if after you start using one, your new electric pressure cooker becomes your default cooking device.
Christopher Ballew I had mine for 2yrs. And just last week. It exploded. Beans and liquid went all over the kitchen and part of the living room, furniture, windows floor. I was frightened. I always felt safe. But not no more. I set my setting as usual. I didn’t do anything wrong.
Thanks for the vid! I was wondering about safety... on one hand all food I've tried made from pressure cookers has been AMAZING, but on the other, my mother passed on to me her paranoia of potential danger. Now I'll actually consider buying one!
Thanks for the kind words. You may want to check out our other UA-cam Channel for so easy electric pressure cooker recipes. Here is the link, ua-cam.com/users/kitchentipsonlinevideos
Informative and straight to the point! I've been interested in the Instant Pot brand for awhile, but was worried about any potential pressure mishaps, which seems more common for the classic stovetop cookers. Thanks for clearing that up! Makes me want to get an Instant Pot even more!
Are you thinking about getting an electric pressure? Watching this video will answer most of your questions. If you know someone who is afraid of pressure cookers, you might want to share this video with them. We welcome your comments and suggestions. Thanks ♥
Ha ha. I 'was' afraid of getting a pressure cooker and watched some videos on kitchen mishaps which were the perfect deterrent. My question is if the heat doesn't get as hot as it does with non electric pressure cookers, is it possible to cook food as quickly?
Sorry for the delay in answering your question. But yes, electric pressure cookers do cook extremely fast. And that's because the heat is concentrated in a very confined space under pressure. As far as other videos demonstrating kitchen mishaps, I can't speak for the non electric pressure cookers, but I can tell you that in the cases of electric pressure cookers, the user in most cases was attempting to remove the lid by tampering with the safety control. With the electric pressure cooker that I demonstrated in the video, the Instant Pot, it is almost impossible to remove the lid even if you somehow bypass the safety. And that's because the lid has a locking mechanism that will lock it and force it upward into a locked position even if there is a slight amount of pressure inside. In our testing, we did remove the lid prematurely after bypassing the safety. But we almost had to stand on the lid using a tremendous amount of force to rotate the lid to get it off. If someone does that in a non testing environment, such as a kitchen, they are probably going to get burned. Or at least make a huge mess. I hope this relieves your anxiety. Mike
I was thinking about getting the Pioneer woman instant pot but but real nervous about it because I know that they cook under pressure and I don't want to have an explosion or something happen or even chance it so I've decided not to get one but after watching this I feel more comfortable about it
I have a Lagostina 9-litre pressure cooker (stovetop) that I really like. But every now and then, I hear of cookers exploding, including an incident this week in Australia, and also in America with the electric ones (Tristar). Thankfully, I've never had any incidents, and I use mine often.
Yes you may have heard about a stovetop pressure cooker having issues, but no one can demonstrate a single laminate explosion from an electric pressure cooker.
I watch the report and clearly that was not a pressure cooker that exploded. That was a situation where the lid was removed and the hot steam came out. If you read the comments, you will see that there are many people who who own that particular pressure cooker recognized that the customer did not vent the pressure cooker properly before they improperly opened the lid. The locking mechanism of the Instant Pot can not be disengage by the consumer. It will only unlock when the pressure is reduced to a safe level.
But that's a very important point, and thank you for mentioning it. If a pressure cooker can be opened before it is de-pressurized, then what does that say about the safety mechanisms? A safe PC should not open until the pressure has been released (hopefully, in the proper method.) I've seen a video where someone forced the lid open. He must have used a lot of strength because it looked like the lid was not going to come off, but he kept trying and then everything blew out at him. But if these electric ones can fail (perhaps due to a glitch with the circuitry), then it can make people afraid of using them. My niece has a stovetop cooker (T-fal) that she has never used and her husband wants me to teach her how to use it. I doubt I'll get her calmed to the point where she will trust it, though.
Thanks !!!alot that helps i know it gets hot but i wasnt sure if it gets hot like to the touch outside of the unit and wud like damage something ..i omow om stove it wudnt b flat ..so ok yea i wudnt use at same time yes my refrig in the wall and the microwave in powerstrip i wasnt sure if cud use cooker in a strip or if it had to be certain kimd of power strip cause of the voltage i was reading about 120 v AC and all that ..so i guess i cud plug it in wall ti there by microwave to huh ?hmm well they r taken up anyway so I m glad power strip is good ..thanks i have a bella pro series i just got .i hoping it is a good one thanks fir help if i have any other questions i will ask thanls again
You being an Appliance repair trainer. What type of Microprocessor or Micro-Controller does the Instant Pot use? I used to be in the HP Printer repair business and the HP P4015 uses a Motorola ColdFire 5e 540 MHz Microprocessor which cost about $30.00. Some Microwave ovens use the Intel 8051, 8 bit Micro-controller, 11.0592 MHz which costs about $1.86.
I appreciate you actually listening to me in the video. However I have absolutely no idea what type of electronic control an Instant Pot uses. In the appliance repair business, no service technician that I have ever known gets involved in repairing electronic control boards. If the board is defective, it is replaced then often times returned to the parts distributor. The distributor sometimes sends it back to the appliance manufacturer.
If you ever take an Instant Pot Apart, please let me know, even if you send me a photo of the board I can tell. Just ordered the Instant Pot Ultra this morning. Don't plan on taking it apart however. (Warranty Issues). I have taken several Microwaves apart however and most of them use the Intel 8051. TL: How many Computer Programmers does it take to screw in a light bulb? Zero it's a hardware problem!
As someone who has designed electronic products, including programming and incorporating many different microcontrollers - I have to ask: what possible different do you think it makes what microcontroller is used ? they are all programmed to purpose and it has no bearing on the quality or safety of the product whatsoever. That's total nonsense.
Im having a time determining wjere i can sit it safely there is no plug by my counter .i know it say don't use extension and umm a powerstrip i have but it's by microwave i also can plug in wall i assume the same plug for refrig is ok ?but can ot sit on microwave or not so thankyou i really need to know
Tarah Thomas, I don't see any reason why you can't set it on top of your microwave. Also if your microwave uses the same power strip as the pressure cooker, it will work just fine. That's because it uses less power than the microwave oven. Just don't use them both at the same time. Mike ☺
No you cannot pressure cook without liquid. The pressure cooker could not build up any pressure. The heating element would cycle on and off on the safety thermostat and eventually the pressure cooker with no longer function.
Can i plug up pressure cooker into a power strip or do it have b directly in the wall also i don't have counter by the 1 plug in the kitchen i have microwave and stove can it sit on eother 1 of those or no thanks ..if not i may need to return it smh
Doesn't matter where you plug it. As long as it's in a 110/120 volts outlet. Power strip could potentially protect your pot from a surge in power. Hope this helps.
I am more concerned about the coating of the pot inside as to whether it releases toxic chemicals into the food. The one I have is a power pressure cooker XL. The pot is made of some kind of non stick substance so I doubt it is good plus it is made in China like everything else.
I use the Instant Pot and it is a stainless steel cooking pot. In fact, that's one of the reasons I chose it. Like you, I am not a fan of non-stick surfaces. Mike 🙂
JOHN MENUIS, What would be the point of giving an opinion if one is not qualified to do so? If someone watches a UA-cam video, and at the end questioned whether or not the person in the video was qualified, is the information provided actually useful to them? Mike

Hi, in an event of exploding, would it cause an instant fire from the device's parts itself?
What would explode? There is not enough power @ 120V to explode, Mike

you need liquid

Can electric pressure cooker explode ? Or electrocute ?
Electric pressure cookers simply do not have enough power in the heating element to produce enough pressure to cause them to explode, Mike
I am more concerned about the coating of the pot inside as to whether it releases toxic chemicals into the food. The one I have is a power pressure cooker XL. The pot is made of some kind of non stick substance so I doubt it is good plus it is made in China like everything else.
