    1x4 support blocks screwed into the joists at the ends to hold the attic ladder in place until you square it works too. You know, like the manufacturers recommend.

      That's what I did. That way you don't need someone in the attic upon raising it into place.

    Love your videos because I can relate. I’m actually looking into installing an attic ladder and glad your video came out right on time. For all the time, material and measurements, you can’t beat the price. Thanks and keep up the great work.

    Good you got one with springs the pneumatic ones start to sag after several years. If your garage door has safety sensors at the bottom that use a beam. You can try to disconnect the sensor wire on the back of the lift and put a normally open switch in series between the safety sensor and the lift. Mount the switch on the frame of the ladder somewhere so when the ladder is closed the switch will be pushed in and closed also completing the circuit. This should disable the garage door when the ladder is down.

    Thanks.
    You could wire a plunger switch to the attic door that kills the power to the garage door opener, and if you use a double throw switch you could even have it turn on the attic lights at the same time.

    Bring the ladder access up with you install temporary supports2x4 under neath and lay the ladder on them shim and drive in screws however it's a good idea to have someone under to guide it flush as you did

    You made a bit of hard work for yourself ! That’s not a criticism its a fact as I’ve fitted many of these on my own. First I take the complete assembly up into the roof space then I screw two battens up against the ceiling across the opening near to each end, that’s the support for you ladder assembly and will assure its flush to the ceiling. Then simple drop the ladder assembly into place and screw four temporary screw to hold it. Drop the ladder climb down and check all is aligned and the hatch closes ok.

    Like a door jamb light switch, use that idea to switch the power for the garage door opener

    Installing an attic ladder magically changes your electrical safety requirements for that attic. Only a big deal if you have to sell the house; usually people uninstall the ladder rather than fix the electrical issues. Not to mention the inspector checking if the ladder is fire rated, but that can be resolved with fire rated paint and a sticker.

    The 2 - 2x4s you installed for the rough opening, would it be ok to screw those two sistering boards together?

    Wouldn't hurt to install a limit switch that cuts power to the garage door opener when it's open. Just saying. Otherwise I liked the video.

    • @DanielWoodell
      @DanielWoodell  2 роки тому

      I lift up the operation switch that’s on the wall when I have the stairway down, Technically doesn’t fallow lockout tag out and no there’s no physical disconnect, so yes there is a danger but I do just deal with it

    Everyone says you need 2 people. Go buy a Block & Tackle pulley system ($20-$30) on Amazon, to not only hoist the assembly up into the attic, but also to hold it in place while you fasten it down. Easy peasy. You'll probably need to temporarily nail a 2x4 between the roof rafters and over the hole, to attach one end of the pulley. You might even want to leave it in place for future use in case you need to lift a heavy/bulky box into the attic.
